New hoops commit: Carlton Brundidge
September 21st, 2009 at 8:00 AM ^
Michigan gets a sweet shooting gaurd to commit, UM is 3-0, MSU is 1-2, the hoops practice facility will be finished in the next couple of years, it sounds like Minor might be ok, I'm about to go on vacation, and my fantasy football team is dominating. The only thing that could make this better is if Molk's foot turns out not to be broken. It's great to be a Michigan wolverine!

Hot damn! We are seeing that wonderful phenomena that comes with hot programs: guys making sure they get their scholarhsip. We see this with Texas, OSU and USC football recruiting, and with top basketball programs. The math is simple - there are just a couple spots left and talented preferred walk-ons competing as well.
Casey and Trey have to feel a small bit of pressure to make a decision if they are leaning UM.

Sam Webb calls Carleton Brundidge the best player in the state of Michigan in the class of 2011. A huge pickup for Beilein and the University of Michigan program. Kid apparently can flat out score. If you're not on the UM Basketball bandwagon already, jump on now.

Don't know that I agree with Sam on that one. Great get for M, I hope Sam is correct but I have to believe Williams, Kearney, and Gibson have more upside. All these kids have 2 more years of HS in front of them, it is going to be interesting to watch this all develop.

I have to admit, while I was very happy to have John Beilein as a coach when Bill Martin hired him away from WV, I doubted whether he would be able to recruit big time talent to UM. I assumed he would make Michigan respectable, but would have a relatively low ceiling. He has really proven me wrong and is drawing in some serious talent. I think he has been particularly impressive in recruiting in-state talent. I am very excited to see where he can take this team. He is obviously a great x's and o's coach, and with the talent he is recruiting, Michigan could really take off.

By the way, Brundidge was one of the many basketball recruits who attended the Notre Dame game. I'd love to hear that the gameday experience was a factor in his decision, though I believe he's been pretty high on Michigan all along.
Also, trivia. The last high profile recruit in one of the major sports from Southfield High?
Gabe Watson.

Hopefully Mr. Brundidge is a bit thinner and has a better work ethic than Mr. Watson.

Awesome. It didn't take long for Beilein to turn Michigan into the kind of place you commit early to. Especially awesome is that he's a local kid. When you have that reputation locally, that's right where you want to be. Now let's go get his teammate Amir Williams.

I have said it since last season began, but there is no ceiling for John Beilein at the University of Michigan.

That is great news. Way to go Coach B.

this kid can apparently do it all and runs circles around high school kids. anyone know how many scholarships we will have left for his class?

with the direction of both our big programs. Let's steal some more WVU coaches!

a soccer coach? not sure which team, but think he too has a big rep.

Does this mean no Kearny? I know we're short on schollies for '11 and would probably prefer to use the last one on a big.

I think that really depends on what happens with Trey and Casey.

I think such a period exists for hoops (compared to football), but when exactly does this kick in for 2010 and 2011?
September 21st, 2009 at 4:41 PM ^
The early signing period is in November. Since Brundidge is only a junior, he can't sign until (at the earliest), November 2010. If someone like Zeigler or Prather committed and wanted to sign, they'd be able to do so this coming November.
