To quote Brian: "i'll eat a lemon" if the 2014 class is actually capped at 16. I think the general consensous is to expect low 20's

arnett?

if this happened two weeks ago would we have had a spot? I hope not bc if so then this timing is pretty poor.

its a bit different. brown visited without telling the coaches. everyone knew dunn was taking visits. if brown told the coaches he could have visited and his spot may or may not have been available. the allegations against Meyer are a bit different. pulling an offfer is different than not being considered a commit.

That's sort of my point:

That's sort of my point: recruits don't cancel pre-planned visits - they just move their announcement date up.

I think it's pretty rare for a recruit to announce before a visit for the school he has yet to visit - doesn't mean it's not going to happen here, but it def goes against conventional wisdom.

For example: recruit X is planning to go visit schools 1-5 on the next five weekends. X set's an announcement date before visit three. It's pretty rare that X announces for school 3, 4 or 5. If so, just wait for the visit to announce.

He scheduled his visits to

He scheduled his visits to Tenn (and MSU) long before the announcement date was set, so the subsequent visit plans shouldn't really matter either way.

Normally, announcing before a visit is a good sign for the schools previously visited. I don't understand why this logic is incorrect in this case.

When recruits announce prior to completing their visits don't they generally just cancel the remaining visits?

Plus, wouldn't a recruit just wait another week to see Tenn before committing?

I'm not saying he's picking M, but I don't think his visit date to Tenn has any real significance.

I doubt you could name ten

I doubt you could name ten who voluntarily took less money, let alone "tons."

He committed on his visit.

He committed on his visit.

I think the last players to commit before seeing Ann Arbor were DTs Perlie Graves and Jones during the early RR era - and they both decommitted as you know.

Edit: Ok, I guess Vandy is sitting pretty, but still not PSU

That's not really what

That's not really what happened with the DBs.

With Morgan, he wanted to be committed and take visits. The coaches basically said you can't be committed and visit other schools and since it's highly unlikely his spot will be available after your visits, they just decided to part ways.

Same with Reeves - he wanted to wait, the coaches wanted to close out DB commits, so they went their separate ways.

Time tables just didn't match up - but they wanted both commits.

It's ok for coaches to slow down on OL, but they didn't really do that with the DBs.

class of 25

If true, M could have taken him.  This will be a class of 25 or 26 - we're simply in on too many quality players

I dont see hoke turning down talent that wants to commit.

Burden > Evidence

It's less about the rules of evidence and more about the NCAA not needing to meet a burden of proof, which could make the accusations problematic for the program.

Not all players work out

Some get injured. Some aren't as good as their rating.  Some lose the love for the game.

Since you never know who's going to work out, better to get as many of the best players as possible.

The rest will sort itself out.

Let me assure you, the starters rarely transfer b/c they're pushed too hard in practice. Now the 3 or 4 deep guys (whether they were highly rated or not) that aren't seeing the field may have a better chance elsewhere.

Always get the best players.

If he was the silent...

He had a space reserved, so his coaches shouldn't care if M was recruiting other DBs.

I don't really understand why they parted ways. Maybe the coaches didn't like him going back on his word by delaying the public announcement or taking back the silent?

If the coaches liked him a player then they take him in jan or whenever if space allows.

Unless the coaches cooled on him as a player, which seems odd since there really isn't any new film on him...

Maybe Hoke just really wants to wrap this class up and start on the 2013 class...

Thoughts?

Hey Mike:

What about Chris Wormley? Don't think this will have an impact since he had UM and OSU in top two? Really?

Don't forget your contact info

Season Tickets at cost

I have season tickets, but I probably won't be back in MI for any of the games, so if you're interested in buying the full season or half season at cost, let me know.

I thought Jim (or one of the Rivals mods) said that he offered his services to RR for free or almost free and they were barely used.  I think Hoke is making better use of the service.

But, what about all the

Yeah, but he doesn't even

Yeah, but he doesn't even have an offer yet - unlike some of the other QB prospects...

I'm not trying to hate on the player, but it seems like the offers that went out first are a higher priority.

Though, if you get  a spring offer, whenever it arrives, you should feel loved.

I don't mean to rail on Hoke

I don't mean to rail on Hoke - he's doing a fine job and the explanation of "I just got here, give me a break" will probably be accepted.

However, a lot of film can be watched in 2-3 weeks.

This is kinda my

This is kinda my point.

Rivals is saying that Richardson has offers from LSU and Alabama and some lesser programs like MSU, Pitt, Iowa.  Plus, he's hearing from Oregon, Nebraska, Boston College, Tennessee, USC and UCLA.

I realize he's hearing from M too and may get the M offer tomorrow, but I just would have liked to see them offer a bit earlier.  Everyone knows the offer is coming, Hoke's been to the school several times,  so why the wait?

I think he's got a point. I

I think he's got a point. I don't really understand how other programs can be offering our state's top players before us.  It just doesn't make any sense - and surely the MI players see we've been offering OH kids...

It just seems natural to offer the top in-state kids ASAP.  It's much easier to offer and explain a later offer to an out of state kid...

He works hard

I don't blame you for having no reason to think Hoke will succeed and the proof will be when he takes the field in 2012 (not next year), but if you're looking for a reason to think Hoke will succeed, it's b/c the man works hard.

I'm not suggesting RR didn't work (regardless of the month off we understand he took off following his first class), but I think Hoke works harder than the average bear and I think working hard gets you pretty far - especially in recruiting.

Uh, MSU. Duh.

But, that's

Uh, MSU. Duh.

But, that's not going to happen.

Yeah, that's basically what I

Exactly.

The biggest surprise wasn't that Hoke could recruit, but that he did such a good job in such a short period of time while behind the 8 ball.

How about the fact that "the

How about the fact that "the process" cost us about a month of recruiting in January and Hoke is still going get a 20-person class?

Amazing, really.

I think Hope is pretty much

I think Hope is pretty much the #1 douchiest Big 10 coach, but how do the rest shake out?

Here's my top 3:

1. Hope (this and the "let me introduce you to my player" bush league from last season)

2. Bret Beilema (let's run up the score on everyone!)

3. Dantonio (it's like he has a permanent smirk on his face)

Plus, getting from Traverse

Plus, getting from Traverse City to Eugene is awful.  I bet they'd have to fly from TC to DTW to Portland and then drive 2 hours to Eugene.

I can't imagine any parent being excited about that. FL would make much more sense (and no time change).

Do you think it's just

Do you think it's just Twilight or reading about OSU in general? Perhaps it's best to avoid both.

I'm just glad we're already

I'm just glad we're already offering 2012 players. Good for Hoke and Co.

Hey, remember all those people ripping Hoke before he got here and had the press conference?

Is there even a direct flight to Eugene?  Maybe Portland isn't that far, but it sure is far from home.

Agreed

Coaching future hall of famers probably doesn't "expire" - let alone in a year.

Honestly

Is there a high school coach more selfish than Ginn Sr.?  All these coaches manage to put their own feelings aside and look out for the kids best interests except for this guy.

I don't get upset at the players, but some of these high school coaches are unbelievable.

(I know the above was sarcastic - but not completely.)

Maybe it's b/c we only hear

Maybe it's b/c we only hear the "bad" news from recruits of when the recruiting coordinator appears to messes up, but I haven't been overly impressed with the contact (or lack of contact) from the staff to the recruits (seniors and juniors).

Maybe this is too reactionary, but if a player is going to his local media to say he hasn't heard from M, I get kinda annoyed.  It just doesn't seem that hard to keep a recruit in the loop at all times - maybe you can't call or visit, but send a letter or an email.

I'm not referring to the recent transition period (though, Crawford does come to mind), but to the stories of 2012 recruits who have already heard from other programs, but not M (maybe those programs were breaking rules).

Again, maybe its just b/c we only hear the bad news.

And, isn't Flowers visiting

And, isn't Flowers visiting this weekend or next? Just makes this more odd...
