Insights from Royce Jenkins-Stone's Twitter Timeline

RJS is liking the Twitter.

Within the past hour he's indicated that he intends to early enroll, that the main reason he chose Michigan was because "[B]rady's there to clean up the big mess" and said he wouldn't have come to Michigan if RichRod (he used a more... perjorative term) was still the coach and they were running the 3-3-5.

I'm thinking this may have some relevance to the whole "Michigan having success recruiting Michigan" meme that's been developing on the front page.

but not particularly relevant to this class because the 85 man limitation is what will prevent the class from expanding not the 25 man class limitation.

Yikes, I think that kid needs to take a page from T-Wolf about how to tweet properly.

Well, at least he's enthusiastic, can't blame him for that.

I just signed up for Twitter a couple weeks ago, but only follow like 5 people and have never posted anything. It makes me a little uncomfortable in general, but definitely in the hands of highly visible high schoolers.

Yeah, someone needs to get to RJS and tell him to button it down a bit.  He might think it is fun now, but those words can catch up to you very quickly.  I'm sure someone close to him will let him know that he needs to clean it up ASAP.

The only "insight" I can get from this is that RR was fighting a lot more of an uphill battle wirh instate recruiting than it would appear on the surface.  The kid had to get that shit from somewhere.  Usually, it comes from higher on the food chain than the players.

I don't think it's a big mystery that that's how a lot of people felt about Rodriguez. Just because the general consensus around here was pro-Rodriguez, that definitely wasn't the case everywhere. The ill-will was very public and very wide spread.

And this is why Twitter sucks.  You have a 16- or 17-year-old kid telling the world that "Dick Rod" doesn't know how to coach football.

RJS is a young pup who comitted to Michigan and is enjoying some new found twitter followers. My only thought is if he thinks that is cool, wait until he plays in front of a 115,000 fans and stuffs a 4th and short.

I agree with what you have said and that RJS needs to develop a better filter for what he says, but most of this is older people intentionally following a kid who is still just that. Most kids speak like that to each other, but I don't think they quite understand that not just their friends and people their own age reads that stuff....

...of the timeline is RJS responding to people who follow him. He's not stupid. He realizes these people aren't all teens.

Whatever we think of his use of the perjorative, the real insight isn't that he's not savvy enough to realize that he shouldn't do things like that, it's that: 1) he intends to enroll early; 2) he wouldn't have committed to U-M without the coaching change.

Number 1 is self-evidently significant to everyone here who obsesses about recruiting. Number 2 is self-evidently significant to everyone here who obsesses about recruiting.

Maybe not you, but it's not like the youth of today are suddenly more disrespectful and loose with their language than generations past.  Why, when I was in college, you wouldn't believe some of the things said about one Gary Moeller post drunken restaurant blow-up.  We just didn't have Twitter and Facebook to let the world know about it.

And that's why Twitter/Facebook are potentially dangerous for today's youth.  Your drunken, irresponsible ramblings were limited to yourself, your friends, and anyone who happened to be near you at the bar.

These players' (hopefully not drunken) ramblings are seen by thousands.

I absolutely agree that Twitter and FB (and other social networking tools) can be very dangerous.  The reach we all have is staggering.

And while I do share the other poster's concerns about these sorts of comments (particularly being public), I do disagree with the implication (whether intended or not) that kids these days are more disrespectful than those of his generation.

over capacity. Behold the power of MGoBlog.

There is at least one player who has indicated that "they" watch twitter.

If I were an incoming recruit, I would hope and pray that the coaching staff did not really see me discussing one of their peers using that term. It is just a short jump from there to any number of ills. My crystal ball sees the potential for pain in his future.

I wonder if he has considered that about 75% of his future teammates committed to play under RR and presumably a good chunk of the current team still has a lot of respect for RR.

What an unbelievably stupid thing to say.  Yes, he's a kid and all but I seriously hope some respected members of the team and the current coaching staff take him to task for these comments and force him to shut down his Twitter account.

getting at.

I've never bashed a current or former Michigan coach.  I don't go crazy over recruiting, bash our players or anything like that.  I also don't have Twitter or follow it whatsoever (or Facebook for that matter).

But feel free to keep up on that anger for whatever reason.

so mentioning that I'm a lawyer on a message board about Michigan sports when someone challenged my analysis of something law-related is on the level of publicly bashing the hell out of the former boss of an organization you are about to join when many people within the organization still love the former boss?

I appreciate that it became a short-lived meme for some reason (even though there's probably a hundred Mich Law grads on this board who have stated as such to support things they've posted) but I still don't understand what you are trying to say here.  If you think what RJS Twittered to the world is on the level of someone saying "I'm a lawyer that went to Michigan Law School" then I dunno what to tell you.

I just thought it was funny that you, of all people, were criticizing him for making stupid comments.  It'd be like me criticizing someone for posting an inappropriate joke when I've been sent to the penalty box more than most for inappropriate jokes.
