OT: New American Athletic Conference Logo
The American Athletic Conference (the non-Catholic remains of the Big East) released their new logo. Apparently it was unanimously selected according to Commissioner Mike Aresco.
Truth be told, they're not even misfit anymore. It's a bunch of southern schools and UConn.
But it's too bad they didn't call themselves the SAC.
Ha, SAC was my high school's athletic conference. And yes, I had quite a few immature laughs at its expense.
Temple isn't south...neither is Navy. Cincinnati isn't either and I'll give you ECU.
Cincy is a semi-southern city and the school has CUSA roots, so they're basically just going back to where they started. Navy is below the Mason-Dixon line and anyway not a full member, they'll only play football and stay in the Patriot League otherwise. Temple I'll grant you. I forgot about them. The rest of their membership (Houston, Memphis, Tulane, the Florida schools, etc.) is geographically non-insane.
Who uses the Mason Dixon line to divide north and south? ESPECIALLY when talking about college football teams. There is nothing "southern" about Navy or Cincinnati.
The American Football Confrence wants their "A" back.
And so does the University of Arizona.
It's like the Dallas Cowboys merged with the University of Arizona
Also more from the commisioner:
"We believe this bold mark and our series of ancillary marks will support our conference name and the values that our name represents. In addition, our partners at ESPN and CBS agree that its strength, simplicity and elegance will resonate well on TV."
They should have just gone to the local high school and had a contest. I am betting they would have gotten at least ten entries better than this one.
U-S-A !!
Waiting for the mgouser "America" to reply to this post
It's the American Athletic Conference, of America!
So they combined a block A and the star from the Starfleet delta. How original.

The American Athletic Conference is apparently also asking that the proper shorthand form for their name be "The American". That way, this year people will be able to say things that will sound odd to the non-fan like, "Rutgers will be leaving The American for the Big Ten" or "Won't life be so much better with Tulane and Tulsa in The American?"
So if the media talks about any other conference, would it be considered unAmerican?
They'll be called "the American" just like sometimes people use "the Colonial," but largely it'll be known as the AAC or the old Big East.
Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.
That's awful. The gradients, the complexity. It's like a logo designed by Geocities or Angelfire.
the unnecessary outline
and why is the star all wonky in only one direction?
...but I think it might be pointing to the direction of all of the schools...the "wonky" (love that word, use it every day when discussing people's eyes) is pointing to UConn/Temple/Navy, then ECU, then USF/UCF, then the SW teams and finally Cincinnati. Just a guess.
Not sure why, but this was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the logo.
Nice Community reference. #SixSeasonsandaMovie
I hate U of A.
I wish the star had 6 points. That'd be some really nice trolling of the Catholic-league.
is far superior to this refugee from a clip-art website.
Two words: Legends and Leaders. No one else is even using them!
There is no other explanation for applying radial gradients to each letter in "AMERICAN." Say what you want about the B1G logo, at least it doesn't look like it was designed by a high schooler who doesn't have access to Illustrator.
Thought the same thing...looks like someone was playing around in Microsoft Word and got bored and designed the logo. No one has used shadows or gradients in this manner since the 90's. I feel like this belongs on Nintendo.
That's unfair to Nintendo.
Who in the hell designs this clip art crap? It'd be passable without the "cool" radial gradient effect in the middle of AMERICAN and withot the shadow of the A. I'd like to see what the other contenders were.
I'll bet they use a ton of MS Word Art. In professional presentations, too.
for the scraps of the Big East. Sounds about right.
If you wear any conference championship gear it'll look like you're wearing some knock off brand of clothing.
I'd like to start an official "make YOUR AAC logo" they can be funny or they can be "official"...let's see what we come up with. Challenge offered, hopefully accepted.
Shockingly bad.
A couple thoughts from Cincinnati fans... "Maybe the logo should have been a door frame with all the team mascots stuck inside, simultaneously trying to get out"... "they went with a downward shooting star about to crater?"
