MGoSuggestions: Buffalo Wild Wings or Scorekeepers
I am looking for suggestions on where to watch the night games this Saturday. I'm coming Saturday morning from the Cleveland area, tailgating, going to the game, and then heading to a bar/restaurant for the night games.
Ira and Sam always talk about Scorekeepers (obviously because that is where they do their post game show), but I saw some reviews online about that place and many people complained about terrible service and some other stuff. I know where the BW3 (I believe it is on South State Street, might be mistaken on that though) is on campus, as I have been there before.
I want to go to a place that has a plethora of televisions with SOUND for the night game(s). I'm assuming the bars with sound will have the sound for the ND/Sparty game, which is what I really want. So, which should I go to, BW3 or Scorekeepers?

if you want to hang with 17 year old girls from Pioneer, Skeeps is the place to be on Saturday nights.

Watch the games? BWW
Food? BWW (Do NOT eat at Skeeps. Tried it once. Regretted it immediately)
Hot (possibly not 21) college girls getting hammered? Skeeps
Especially on saturday night, Skeeps will turn from "sports bar" into "college shit show bar"
- note, I may or may not have frequented Skeeps for a time. It's good at what it is. But it's not where you want to be to watch a game.

The right choice is always Skeeps. Watch the game at Skeeps then roll on out to Rick's for the after game celebration. 100% guaranteed good time.

Brah!

Frat-tastic answer possible.

A+++++++++++! Would go back again!

Agreed. Breasts and drumsticks, choose BW3. Ass and titties, Skeeps all day ya heard.
September 12th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
Skeeps wings are much better than BWW

Did you end up taking a dump at Skeeps? I always used to go to Pizza House whenever I was at Rick's and a turtlehead started to poke out No way can someone take a proper dump at Rick's with girls coming into the bathroom, etc.

Scorekeepers, aka SKEEPS, turns into a nightclub filled with underaged undergrads in the evenings. While the games might be winding down while it starts to get busy I don't know of anyone who has actually gone to Skeeps to watch a game. Between those 2 I would say 100% go to BWW. You also might want to check out some other options in Ann Arbor. I have some friends that swear by The Arena.

Who cares about listening to the game? Go to Skeeps. The girl-to-guy ratio will be off the chain during the first two quarters. All the dudes will be at home and you can go in there and clean up.
September 12th, 2012 at 3:50 PM ^
I care about listening to the game. I guess I should have said this in the OP, but I'm married (got married August 25), so going to a bar with young college girls sounds like a great time, but unfortunately I can't partake in that stuff anymore. <sigh> Oh to be young again. I'm 30 now, but I'd love to be 23-25 again.
Anyway, when it's football season, I'm all about watching every game possible. I'm the guy who sits on my couch watching 12 hours of football every Saturday. I watch the Thursday and Friday night games also. I'm a CFB junky and have no shame in saying that. I hate watching football with no sound because it just takes away from the great experience of watching it.

Yeah, I'd agree about the whole college girl thing. It might be fun for a couple of minutes, but you'll literally have NOTHING to talk about with them, and when I was on campus I remember Skeeps being one of the least game-friendly bars around.
As others have noted, I've heard good things about the Arena.
September 12th, 2012 at 12:59 PM ^
I will suggest the Arena as better than both, but thats just me, its just down the street. Good craft beers for cheap.
September 12th, 2012 at 3:04 PM ^
Arena trumps all.
September 12th, 2012 at 5:07 PM ^
...that the Arena is owned by a couple of MSU graduates, not that that necessarily should be a deterrent for you.
For me, I'd go elsewhere. Something about seeing MSU trinkets scattered through out the bar turns me off.

This is what I'm fearing. I already talked to the people with whom I am going to the game and they are fine with leaving the M game early in the fourth quarter (maybe even the end of the third quarter), assuming M is winning big, which they SHOULD be by then.

I would recommend against going to a corporate bar located on the former site of the historic Frieze Building. I'd say screw watching late games and just go to Ashley's and enjoy, but hey, that's just me.

I must be getting old. What was where BW3s is now in the late 90's? And what is now where the Frieze used to be?

Just hate the idea of a large corporate bar behemoth being the best sports bar option in AA. You expect that in Mount Pleasant and other MAC cornfield towns but in a City where independent retailers have always been promoted (yeah, I hated waiting for Shaman Drum books as much as the next guy), you'd think some entrepreneur could develop a unique business down there.
September 12th, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
The Arena is your best sports bar in town.
September 12th, 2012 at 3:21 PM ^
The Arena is awesome. Or at least it used to be. I watched a ton of games there back in the day but admittedly have not been there for at least 5 years.
September 12th, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
Arena is great if you're looking to really watch games. Also their wings are phenominal. Newer bar: The Packard Pub has a good TVs setup, but I've only been there once so I can't speak to food or postgame environment.
September 12th, 2012 at 4:15 PM ^
I think Packard Pub is closed now.
September 12th, 2012 at 4:40 PM ^
Meh, several things I personally don't like about the Arena. But even if it were the perfect sports watching environment, its still too far from campus. State Street or South U needs a good, locally owned and operated sports bar.

R.I.P. Shaman Drum

Ya and Frieze had to go.

Damn, that's right!! How on earth could I have forgotten about the bread/cheese spread and creamsicle drinks.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:28 PM ^
No football watching at Olga's Kitchen.
September 12th, 2012 at 3:21 PM ^
The Frieze is now North Quad, the newest dorm.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:13 PM ^
The Frieze Building was torn down to make room for North Quad, which is on the other side of East Washington.

I frequent skeeps and never run into any problems w/ service. The wings are easily better than BWW as well, and far cheaper. Haven't been to the Arena though. Do note that it can be hard to hear in Skeeps with all the college kids.
September 12th, 2012 at 2:12 PM ^
*Gasp!* college kids. In a college town of all places.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
Bar Louie is actually your best bet. I know it's a chain, but AA doesn't really have any good sports bars.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
But it has no sound. I agree with The Arena. If you don't care about being on campus, Frasiers on Packard is close to the stadium and is a great dive bar.
September 12th, 2012 at 4:29 PM ^
Frasiers has the beer tent too. Not a bad place to chill out after the game.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:13 PM ^
There is one Bar Louie downtown Cleveland and one in Westlake (suburb of Ctown) that my wife and I frequently attend. I was unaware of one being in AA, but like someone else said, there is no sound there. I simply hate watching football with no sound. It takes away from the experience.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
Between the two you mentioned, I would definitely go to BWW if you intend on actually paying attention to the game as well, but The Arena is a good place too, or if you can get a little further from campus, Fraser's on Packard isn't bad either really.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:09 PM ^
I guess BW3 if you just want a lot of TVs
September 12th, 2012 at 1:15 PM ^
That's exactly what I want, just as long as there is sound for the Sparty game. I also want to follow the USC/Stanford game.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
Maybe Damon's if you want sound and don't mind being out by the mall.
Fraiser's is a good local institution off Packard.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
I prefer the Arena myself. If you go to Scorekeepers, you definitely want to be out by 10-11.
September 12th, 2012 at 1:22 PM ^
Ann Arbor really needs some better sports bars if we have people considering BWW or Skeeps as reasonable options...
Yes, The Arena might fit the bill, but it's sad that Ann Arbor otherwise lacks a local sports bar with good TVs, good food/drink options and a good atmosphere.
