More Optimism from Sam Webb
On this morning's Recruiting Roundup Sam seemed to double down on his previous indication that "a couple" of good things would happen for us in June. Today he responded to a questioner who felt that we have been missing out on too many of the very top prospects; ie, Isaac, Levenberry, Garnett, etc.. Sam's answer was that we already have many top guys in this class and he also hinted very broadly that we can expect some top names to commit to the Maize & Blue in the very near future. No gut feelings and no names mentioned, but a very confident statement. Let the speculation begin. LaQuon and Poggi are the two obvious big names out there, and though Hurst is not a big name (yet) I think he would be a fantastic addition to the class. Get those three on board and we are playing with house money.
Get (x) recruit and THEN we're playing with house money.
That's what we've said about the last 5 commits. We're already playing with house money.
Every school misses out on great recruits they think they have a good shot at. We see Michigan as everyone's dream, but for a kid who didn't grow up thinking that and who has the option of some combination of Alabama, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, Penn State, and yes, even Ohio and ND, it isn't hard to see that some will choose to go elsewhere. It's no big deal. You just have to win your share of the battles. It's like baseball. Even the best team is going to lose 40% of its games.
with Wolverine 73.
But is the best team going to leave the bases loaded in the 8th inning after loading them up with no outs and then seeing a horrible strike-out, a weak ground-out and an inexplicable 'struck out looking'?
Damn it! I had almost forgot about that poor excuse for an offense! At least we have JV going tonight.

that... Haters gon' hate...and potatoes gon' potate!
Wasn't sure I'd ever get someone to agree with me on that one. Damn potatoes...
almost guarantees missing out on a few others, simply because position spots are limited, and avoidance of competition. Nature of the beast.
LOVE this coaching staff's ability to recruit, regardless of a few misses.
with ND Sux.
agree that ND does indeed Sux!
Tell that to USC, signing Scout's #1 and #3 RBs.
After that fantastic weekend in February we were into house money. Already having a stud QB and Safety in the fold to add the OL, Butt, Hill, Lewis and Taco made for a great class. After that we have already added a couple of recievers, 2 highly rated linebackers, another corner and the 5th member to the Oline.
This group is already as highly rated as our top 10 class from 2012. I would say we are deep into the houses pockets with 6 spots left to fill.
Makes me smile every time I read his name. Imagine the chants of "Ta-CO! Ta-CO!" every time he notches a sack at the Big House...
Half off tacos at BTB, Chipotle and Pancheros every time Taco grabs a defensive touchdown.
Yeah, everytime Taco gets a sack, someone in the student section puts a maize sack over their head that we can call a Taco Sack.
a top rated RB (Wilkins), elite WR (Treadwell), a couple excellent interior DL (Poggi and Hurst), and a big corner. That would leave one wild card spot for another top prospect.
Maybe it will be someone such as McQuay, Cravens, or Mathis. Treadwell and Poggi have been known as top recruits on our board. I hope Treadwell commits soon but I do not see Poggi committing I feel like he is Bama all the way.
McQuay, Cravens, and Mathis are all real longshots. I would be very surprised if any of them were to commit to Michigan, let alone anytime soon. And even if Mathis did commit, he'd change his mind in three days. A commitment from him doesn't mean anything until NSD.
I hear Mathis is leaning more towards UAB, at the moment
Surprised you feel that way about Poggi. I think the rest of the world feels the exact opposite (Where's RDT when you need him?). Doesn't mean he will be a part of our class for sure, but right now, the odds are strongly in our favor.
The odds are strongly in our favor on Poggi based upon what?
Nothing. At best I'd say we're 50/50 with Bama, but perhaps that's changed..
Sign a top talent receiver, then we will be playing with house money.
Any insider scoop on Poggi out there? It seems like after his Alabama visit, things got really quiet. I remember them saying that they wanted to try to visit as many programs as they could by summer and make a decision by fall, but I haven't even heard about him visiting anywhere else. Has it come down to Michigan vs. Bama?
As for Sam Webb... I'm really hoping for Hurst and Treadwell. Please please please.
going silent following a visit to 'Bama... maybe waiting for a check to clear? You know, these damn scammers writing faked checks and all...
Or maybe he's just doing some heavy thinking on what is probably the biggest decision of his life so far. Enjoy the long weekend because our stressing over the question doesn't change a thing. (note: I obviously haven't heard anything either.)
Poggi is just that way.
For all the talk of Cravens, I am anxious to get Dymonte on campus. He's gunna be a stud. Treadwell would be a nice get as would any of the names we are all speculating on. FWIW, Webb is about as good a source as there is out there and he is usually conservative in his predictions. Sam does a nice job.
Go Blue!
Hopefully Webb is a little better source than he was before the Spring Game...

Sam Webb didn't say he had any sources for that information prior to the spring game. He was asked a question of how many more recruits we'd have by the spring game, and he took a guess based on nothing more than his educated speculation. He clearly indicated that it was only speculation, and didn't even have very specific people in mind for that speculation.
Knowing that, this sounds different. This is information that he is passing along, rather than a speculation that he was asked to make.
So if you're going to bang on Sam Webb then please tell me who has more accurate insight and better connections in regards to Michigan recruiting.
Brady Hoke
Sam Webb doesn't have "non-contact" periods.
Well it's not Ace...that's for sure. Wish we had TomVH back, I miss those TomVH:"Buckle Up".
but no need to crap on Ace, who is a fine contributor to this board, and may still be establishing himself somewhat.
I'd guess Ace has a lot more information than you. douche
You do realize you're some of the best Michigan-related information for free, right?
We can never really know what they want until NSD. Ever hear of Josh Garnett?
And sometimes not then. Ever hear of Alex Kozan?
Sam Webb has a great track record and is completely immersed in Michigan athletcs so I'll give him the nod over this guy JC.
please.
That guy is an idiot. I am sorry. He might be making those statements since pretty much every other site thinks Hurst will drop when he visits... that way he can look like he's really connected when others aren't.
Let's not forget, that Hurst has told multiple interviewers that he hopes to make a decision AFTER he gets home from his Michigan visit and has had a chance to talk things over with his family.
I'm not saying he won't be so impressed that he won't commit on the spot, but that seems to be the assumption on this board and across the blogosphere, and I'd hate to see mass panic if the kid quietly goes home leaving us all dangling from our seatbelts in a circle of empty PBR cans.
Thursday late morning "whatcha drinkin?" thread?
