OT: Friday Open Thread - Whatcha working on today? Posbang anyone?
So it looks like this might be a regular off-season thread since each of the last three Fridays I've wanted to jump out of my window here at work to put myself out of misery.
Whatcha working on today? Any good or interesting plans for the weekend?
Me, I've got the monumental task of figuring out what to get profitgowife for Mother's Day and trying to negotiate a confidentiality agreement with an a--hole lawyer on the other side. This weekend is filled with kids stuff, including a toddler birthday party at a playground tomorrow. Actually, a pretty nice little Saturday. We might make a trip to Home Depot. Maybe Bed Bath & Beyond. I don't know. I don't know if we'll have enough time.
Well, the OP DID ask.
I'm not even mad. That's amazing. Well done, sir.

So crack open a cold bud light Mr. Polyamory, because you single-handedly have funded three local flowershops.

I may need to get this framed.
My half day of teaching is over and now I will go home and play video games...which is a little pathetic since thats what my students are probably doing too
Coffee and apartment hunting... Have to set up some visits this month so we have a place to live when we move to Chicago for med school at the end of July.
I love living in Chicago. Where are you going to medschool? Got any neighborhoods in mind? I used this guy to find an apartment, totally free to you:

He did a good job and found me my place.
Cool, thanks for the tip. I'm going to a small school in North Chicago, Rosalind Franklin University. North Chicago is kind of a misleading name for the city, because it's actually 40 miles north of real Chicago. So I'll be living in the 'burbs somewhere. Works for me though, cause I still have pretty easy access to real Chicago but am far enough away that it won't be as distracting.
...definitely get into the city as much as possible, but driving and parking is a pain. If you can be near a train station, makes it much easier.
Congrats on furthering the education.
Live by the Metra. My girlfriend actually looked at Rosalind Franklin for PT school, ended up elsewhere. I'd say either live by the Metra or I-94 for easy access to the city. The train will be MUCH easier especially depending on time of day, but a friend of mine lived in Lake Forest for work and would take the Metra to the city for weekends, worked out well for her.
For the most part the north suburbs are great, it can get pricey depending on where you end up, and while I'm not as familiar with as far north as you are heading, I've heard some areas around North Chicago (the stand alone city) can get a little dicey. I'm not sure how much help the link I sent you will be since you're suburban (he lives in lincoln park and does that area), but he would at least get you in touch with someone who can help.
I hope to be near a Metra station, but price and not-ghetto are higher up on my list. I assume there's parking near Metra stations? Ann Arbor is the biggest city I've ever lived in, so I'm not too saavy on that sort of thing...
A friend and I are going to Lollapalooza soon after I move to the area, so hopefully the Metra is an acceptable way to get there and back every day.
Metra will work for Lollapalooza, and most of the stations have parking, but have weekend specific passes/charges/etc.
Sometimes parking can be expensive or difficult, but usually on the weekends it isn't bad.
Lolla should be fun--say hi if you run into me there. You can take the Metra in and then walk from the station (a bit of a hike) or jump on a bus or the El. It's easy once you get a feel for it.
Can't go wrong with a Michigan onesie. Hit up MDen - they have several (some in pink for a girl).
(Its really scary that I know this sh-t now.)
I would not recommend having 5 kids.
Definitely.
Anyone doing any TPS reports?
slogging through patients
have fresh frozen strawberries, fresh limes from last weekend, tequilla rum and orange liquer in the freezer. homemade strawberry daqueris for the wife, tequila and lime with aguave syrup for me!
visiting AA for a friends wedding this weekend. good to be back in Pure Michigan
Two more victories without a loss and MGB is in the NCAA tournament, hopefully at an Ann Arbor regional (which has been the dream for me all year).
If they lose one it takes three wins, if they lose two their season is over.
Hoping to have difficulty checking MGoBlog Sunday afternoon only to realize the site has imploded due to Treadwell, Isaac, Mathis, and Poggi all committing in what will come to be known as the Mother's Day Miracle.
Still without a job, so my only real job is right here talking to you fine folks...posbang!
Don't give up hope. You'll wait longer than you want or thought and then suddenly you'll have three offers and have a hell of a time deciding which one to take. Keep ya head up.
Check out the LinkedIn group... MGoNetworking... for some openings posted by blog readers...
Who knows... they may have an opening that you'd be perfect for.
Father in law called yesterday and said they were coming in for the weekend from MI. Nice notice. Should be there by the time I get home from work. Actually enjoy their company though, so it won't be that bad, just threw a wrench in the Mother's Day plans.
I am working a dialysis clinic today which is about the best money I make as a Dr. and the least amount of work. Also, my four kids and wife have all got some sort of gastrointestinal problem and all of them are at home sick. I have to say being at work today isn't that bad.
For the weekend I am either heading to the cottage with the kids to do some fishing (if they have recovered) or finishing up some odd jobs around the house. It's funny, as a kid I used to marvel at the fact that all my father's free time was spent working and not playing. I could never figure out how he could do it and not want to stop to do fun stuff. Now I'm 37 years old and totally get it. Taking a saturday to work on my new garage or go out and work in the woods is what I do for fun now. I just wish he was still around to enjoy it with. Have a great weekend everyone!
I'm not even a dad but that's exactly how I feel. Now that I have so many plans for badass stuff I want to do to all the things I own, like customizing my xbox for instance (which I am completely in love with), that's what I do for fun. And it's amazing.
I spent a couple hours cleaning my grill last weekend with a beer in hand. Considering I was also able to squeeze in 18 holes, I would call that a hell of a weekend. Jumping out of work early today to go play tennis with a friend, then taking pizza to another buddy's house because he just had hip surgery and can't move (tough life for a kid who is 25).
Would rather take care of 5 gastroenteritis patients then work in a dialysis clinic.
Then again, I primarily do outpatient spine, and i know many physicians (such as my wife) who would rather stick needles into their eyeballs then endure a day of neck and back patients.
Yeah, to each their own I guess. At our hospital it is always a fight to see who covers dialysis. All the internists want to do it because (in our minds at least) it's pretty easy money. Plus, if we were talking non-family members with gastroenteritis it's one thing, but when it is your wife and quadruplet 3 year olds, that is something different. They are hard enough to deal with when they are healthy, let alone when they are spraying bodily fluid out of every bodily opening.....No, I think I will stick with the dialysis.
Just took a final exam this morning. Making sure to do absolutely no studying the rest of the day for my final tomorrow. That sounds about right. If they don't give me a damn weekend, then I'm going to make one myself.
Trying to put into action the revolutionary components of Marquerite Duras's "Destroy, She Said." Destroying myself until I reach nothingness, then building the self up anew.
I've been meaning to get some pedals myself, I just can't find any that I really like/can justify to myself buying.
I went to the Bed, Bath, & Beyond and got my wife a Keurig coffee maker. It is what she wanted so, beyond getting here a card that the kids and I will sign, that is what she is getting.
Bed Bath & Beyond???!!! How do you have that much time???!!!
I worked late one day, so that I could take off a hour early the next day.
I hope for your sake it's really what she wanted. I've heard horror stories about buying the wife an appliance for Mother's Day. If it is what she wanted, you have a good woman my friend.
Just to be on the safe side, I do have a small piece of jewelry that is on back up. If I think that the Coffee maker has backfired I can quickly produce the other item (without having to leave the house) so I think I have it covered.
Impressive, were you a Boy Scout? Hopefully you did not get said jewelry engraved so it can be returned if not needed. Man I'm cheap.
I am currently updating my companies long range calendar and updating our manifest for a training exercise in California next month, all while drinking coffee with ample amounts of Bailey's in it. Can anyone pick me up from work and take me home for lunch?
Clean garage, chase kids around, mow lawn, take kid to little league pictures/practice, etc, etc.... Oh, and probably rip through a couple six packs along the way!
Should be a productive weekend!
Driving down to the Keys for the weekend. Please stop raining Florida.
You have to stop in Islamorada down there and go to Robbie's Pier to feed the tarpon. Its an awesome experience having a 150lb. tarpon eat out of your hand.
They suck. A lot. Nothing like an exam at 6:30 on a Friday night.
Question for everyone: has anyone ever achieved the mythical Karma status of 4? I'm pretty sure that's tantamount to Nirvana. I don't know if it's ever been done before.
