Thoughts on Michigan State and tSio game
This has basically been a snoozefest up to this point. tSio looks pathetic and Michigan State still likes to try to take themselves out of the game with foolish penalties and turnovers at the worst time. BJ Cunningham is definitely a freakish receiver ... he really uses his size well. William Gholston is playing much better this game, but acts like a fool when he makes big plays ... talking trash in opponents faces and pointing. I wouldn't be real excited if I were rooting for either of these teams.
It seems to me like tSio is giving up on the season by giving the reigns to Braxton Miller. He shows his freshman instincts .. and is too quick to try running. His passes are off target and wobbly. Bauserman gives tSio the best opportunity to win, but apparently Fickell is willing to trade wins for the experience his young QB is getting.

How many different MSU v. OSU threads are really necessary today?
October 1st, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
8. Then technically we would have enough to win.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:06 PM ^
Are more important than everyone else's, and must be heard and properly highlighted.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:58 PM ^
Yeah, except Bauserman is in.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
He's playing much like Braxton Miller in this first series.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
Did you see Bauserman in past games? Miller might be doing pretty bad but you cannot reasonably say that Bauserman gives them the best chance to win.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
Bauserman has been absolutely terrible thus far, as well. There aren't a lot of answers there in Columbus, apparently.

Both teams are just playing garbage. Of course it'll be a better OSU team when they play UM and blablabla.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
MSU's offense is bad. They played about the same this game as they did against ND. Cunningham is good, Cousins blows hot and cold, they have a good group of RBs which doesn't matter because the OL does not block for them.
Their defense looks pretty good, though.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
State throws a pick and Bauserman trots out.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
but the defense is holding it's own - thanks to stupid playcalling and redzone turnovers by MSU. It should be 14-0 MSU right now. Derp Dantonio & Co.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
are setting offensive football back about a century. MSU is trying to give this one away.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
The more I watch other big ten teams play the more I like our chances in conference play.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
In related news, Illinois over Northwestern, 38-35. Scheelhaase led a game-winning drive with a minute on the clock. High scoring games between teams that are playing us equals lots of opportunity on offense. The Mattison Effect faces two tough road tests in the next two weeks against two reasonably talented QBs.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
that'll be a fun one.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:06 PM ^
It's ovah.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:06 PM ^
Bauserman looks like a man amongst boys out there. That has everything to do with him being like 30 years old and nothing to do with how he is playing.
October 1st, 2011 at 7:31 PM ^
the Lions QB is much much younger than Ohio State's.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
why is a low scoring sec game an exciting defensive battle, but a b10 is a snoozefest.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
Don't let the TV man tell you what to believe!
October 1st, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
Because this isn't really an exciting defensive battle. There aren't a lot of turnovers, or anything. It's just a completely inept offensive struggle.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
Because neither team has an o-line.
The announcer just called the OSU offense "staggeringly pathetic." This is an understatement.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
Maybe so, but Matt Millen calling anything football-related "staggeringly pathetic" is like Stevie Wonder telling someone to get their eyes checked.
October 1st, 2011 at 8:35 PM ^
While your point about Millen may be correct, it was Sean McDonough who made the "staggeringly pathetic" comment.
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:33 AM ^
I like Sean McDonough, he can go ahead and say that all he wants.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
outside of Wisconsin and Nebraska and possibly Michigan, the Big Ten really does suck this year. I also really thought NW and ILL would have played a lot better than they have. Jesus.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
You waching this game Brionte? Ohio's not Ohio anymore. The fans will be calling for the coach's head. Very unstable enviroment. Just sayin'.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
I agree. What's the over/under on number of losses that gets Fickell fired? I think two more should do it (so 4 losses). I also think they'll be lucky to beat anyone with this offense.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
This is why we have the open thread.

Comment From Realistic Buck
We need to hire a Brady Hoke type guy as coach. |

That OSU loses its next 3 (Nebraska, Illinois & Wisconsin). I also wonder what the O/U will be when Ohio plays Penn State.
Does Millen get paid every time he says, "Meet me at the quarterback"?
October 1st, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
(41-14 Wiscy heading into the 4th)
Of course, it's easier to "root" for tOSU when you're not actually watching them.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
"So, um, next week, how about some open QB tryouts?"
October 1st, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
Or find anything resembling an offensive linemen?
Its actually hard to tell how bad the OSU QBs are, since they have a Spart lineman on their back by the time they take their 3rd step.
I am eager to see what Martin & Co. can do against these guys.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
Learn to love it.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Rodriguez and Magee were at least running plays where you could say "if they'd run that better, it would have worked really well. I understand what they're trying to do."
This is just staggering incompetence. I have no idea what their game plan is supposed to be.

Amazing given the names on OSU's OL.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
Might not even get 100 yards of total offense this game.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
Bauserman just got destroyed by an MSU defender. I love seeing tsio suffer, regardless of the opponent.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
I hope Ohio still sucks this bad in November.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Wow, Cousins looks like ass today.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
Seriously, folks. Michigan is going to finally end the streak against Ohio and it will be in convincing fashion. Their offense is putrid.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Let's not get too cocky- the BIG is definitely down this year and OSU looks pretty awful, but a talented freshman can mature quite a bit (at least to competency) over the course of a season and we have yet to see what Michigan will do against a really good defense, unless you count ND. I don't.
I still feel better about Michigan's chances, but I want to see them beat a team like MSU or NEB before I say that they will break such a long streak of losses to OSU.
