Second Half: Please Pass Persistently
Anybody else feel that Al should have Denard throw the ball a lot in the second half? Three touchdown lead. Get him more looks in the passing game. Take the lumps if they come, but I would love to see him get comfortable enough to fall back into the rhythm he had last year. I haven't checked, but I'd assume he has 100-150 more rushing yards than passing yards at this point of the season...

Let's run it out and get the win. If up 28-35 in the fourth then we can but it's still a bit early

I missed the third quarter (lunch with the fam). What the hell happened? I heard we turned it over 3 times in our own territory!
A little more detail would be greatly appreciated.

In case no one filled you in or you still don't know Denard threw 2 picks. One was a pass where the Defender and Koger (i think it was him) went up, the ball got knocked into the air, and the DB caught it on his way down. Another Denard threw a bad pass, the DB jumped it and picked it off. And finally after forcing a 3 and out we gave Hopkins the ball to run around midfield and he fumbled it

Personally I would like to see what Denard can do with his legs :)

There's something vaguely unsettling about that comment. I think that it is because it can be taken a couple of different ways. Or maybe it's the fact that I would be cool with it, regardless of context...

I would actually rather see the offense get another TD however it may come, and then let Gardner get a lot of minutes

He needs reps and we need denard healthy.

I disagree only because I think Devin will need to play at some point during the conference season, and he's even less prepared than Denard.

OT: how big was that 4th down call to go for it? Possibly Changed the game. Good to see aggressive playcalling, though I felt a punt was equally justifiable.

I agree there is no reason to run him this much today....Save him for the big ten schedule and we need to get better timing in the passing game if we are going to be serious contenders.
September 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
Geeeze....if he keeps throwing this bad the big ten season is going to be rough
September 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
wow, no more passing. please! run the backs!
September 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
quit forcing it..
September 24th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
You were saying?
September 24th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
Popped my double-post cherry. Was it good for you, too?
September 24th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
But this us terrible. If I was a Big10 DC, I'd dare Denard to pass on every play
September 24th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
And Michigan State hasn't lost their Michigan game defensive playbook from last year either. Hopefully we can get some of those downfield balls they so happily gave up this year.
September 24th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
I hope you're happy OP. Look what you did
September 24th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
This.
September 24th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
Denard just needs to sit in the pocket and throw the ball like he did last year. If we give up that one or two times he could've scrambled so be it, but this happy feet "coach wants me to scramble but I don't really know" dance is killing us.

Sheesh, D-Rob is starring down his recievers, predetermining where's he throwing the ball, and throwing into tight coverage repeatedly. Man, it's frustrating that he is such a talented runner, but is just not improving in his passing skills. This will really hurt in conference play.

Oh another missed field goal. Thats unusual.
September 24th, 2011 at 1:59 PM ^
I love Denard, but you almost have to wonder if we are going to need to play Devin some to win in conference games.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
know devin is a proven passer at the college level?
September 24th, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
Denard this year is exactly as I expected. Deadly on the run and dangerous (to us) on the pass. Once he's comfortable he'll make another huge leap, until then, we'll slamming our heads against the walls.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
denard does not need to take these shots when we're up 21
September 24th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
By the number of hits Denard is taking?
If we're going to gain 2-4 yards on a play, let's do it with the RBs please.
Also, can i has moar short passing plays???
September 24th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
September 24th, 2011 at 2:10 PM ^
Devin at QB, D-Rob at RB/slot reciever ala the way Florida used Percy Harvin. Why not??? D-Rob can get the ball in his hands a lot in space & Devin can throw.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:27 PM ^
How is that part of our offense? If Devin gets in denard should rest.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:49 PM ^
Unacceptable! /somewhat s
September 24th, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
Play Action Pass. Borges needs to used Denard in the Play action passing situations or Rollim him out. Denard forces passes and locks on to his reciever's. Give him time.....Have faith in Denard.
GO BLUE!!

Hopkins the fumbling machine...why this guy gets any carries is a mystery to me.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Hopkins should never receive a hand off again. I'm sorry but he is TERRIBLE. Unreal.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
or has Hopkins fumbled on his last two touches? I feel for the kid, but damn, how can a guy that big/strong not HOTTDB?
September 24th, 2011 at 2:19 PM ^
Yes, Denard should throw the ball in the second half....if your goal is turning the ball over and giving sdsu a chance to win.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
And start moving the ball--and holding on to it--again
September 24th, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
We will be lucky to score against some of the better Big Ten defenses.
September 24th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
As long as we beat the bottom dwellers and half of the middle of the pack in the B1G we could go 9-3. It would be nice to beat the NE, OSU's though, but realistically we are looking at a 3 to 4 loss season. We'll see how DROB plays against MN.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
Denard.... makes terrible decisions when throwing and stephen hopkins is a fumble machine
September 24th, 2011 at 2:27 PM ^
Understood he is a big fresh bacl...but he cant hold on the the freaking ball! Banned from the field.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
September 24th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
they keep saying they are waiting for someone to step up at the tailback position. Denard has stepped up they just don't want to pull the trigger.
Our defense is playing a good game , I know there have been alot of dropped passes but our d line is looking good
September 24th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
He is as bad of a passer as he is terrific of a runner. He is an option quarterback. That's what he is.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
If Denard doesn't improve as a passer quick, we are going to have some issues in B1G play. He is a bottom of the barrell B1G QB as a passer right now.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
He is going to be a good one.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
^Above, what evidence do you have that leads you to believe he will improve? He makes the same throwing/mechanics/read mistakes he made two years ago.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:59 PM ^
He's talking about Countess....
