Formerly Meta? Tim (YTT) writes for Freep
Saw something about Shane Morris recruiting hard for Michigan (though really, it was no new or hot news), and when I saw the credits, I was...surprised.
BY TIM SULLIVAN DETROIT FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER
Just thought it was interesting that one of the more...vehement...anti-Freep guys is willing/made to write for the Freep as an analyst for thewolverine &rivals.com.
Fair use, and all that, but really you're not missing much by not clicking on it. Nothing you probably didn't already know. Just who was writing it and where stuck my "what a strange world we live in" meter.

Now we can read some quality on the Freep.
Hopefully Tim will be Drew Sharp's boss one day and teach him the basics of sports journalism
September 21st, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Or better yet teach him how to be fired.

kick Drew Sharp in the nuts and push Michael Rosenberg down an elevator shaft.

Don, I'm pretty sure you've previously given us a range for your age, and I have to say, knowing that range, I get a kick out of seeing you write stuff like this. Very funny indeed.

First comes love then comes marriage....
September 21st, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
That type of marriage is currently not legal in Michigan.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
why not? drew sharp is not a man.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:32 AM ^
Nor is beastiality

touche, good sir. i overlooked that possibility.
September 22nd, 2011 at 8:55 AM ^
No worries, happens all the time. Just trying to do my part to spread the word.
September 21st, 2011 at 9:22 AM ^
I'm guessing its a part of his new job as the recruiting analyst for The Wolverine, Michigan's rivals site. IIRC, Hemholdt used to write about UM recruiting for the freep before being promoted to Rivals' midwest recruiting analyst.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:26 AM ^
This sounds correct.
Would also imagine that Josh has too many other things to do while driving around the Midwest in his very own Rivals Creeper Van.
Good for Tim. Rest of the people on here who are anti-Freep should just be quiet; this is a good thing for Tim.

If you grew up a diehard Tigers fan, made it to the majors and got picked up by the Indians, would you turn down a shot at your dream job because at one point in your past you detested your potential employer? Tim's doing what he loves and I have to give him credit.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
Can Tim demand a trade to the Detroit News?
September 21st, 2011 at 9:29 AM ^
Tim done sold out, yo.
September 21st, 2011 at 9:38 AM ^
Oh come on, give the guy a break! We know he's well aware of his MGOROOTS; you can't blame Tim for trying to advance his career.
September 21st, 2011 at 9:39 AM ^
Are people seriously criticizing him for this? Some of these comments may be sarcasm, but I don't think they all are. To say he shouldn't write for a major newspaper like this given the opportunity is absurd. Like someone else said, why shouldn't he take that opportunity to turn the freep sports section into something besides Sharp and Rosenberg. If you actually think the freep is some evil enterprise bent on destroying Michigan football, and therefore Tim should stay at all costs, lest he be labelled a sellout, you need your head checked. Good for him.

I look forward to Section One taking down the evil Tim Sullivan by the end of the first week of October. Book It

I will, however, need an alibi, if as Don suggested above, Rosenberg falls down an elevator shaft. I hope somebody will give me a heads up on that one, so that I can be having dinner with a Special Agent from the FBI when it happens.
As for Sharp, he's got more enemies than I can count. I think I'm safe on that one.
Here's my take on all of this; and this isn't a matter of opinion or rewriting history or settling grudges with Rosenberg: it is amazing, the extent to which Michigan Wolverines' sports stories lead the page-hit counts on Freep.com. And for the supporting data, all it takes is a look at the "Most Popular" stories at any day and any hour of the week. "Michigan recruiting" is likely to be a more popular story on Freep.com than "Detroit city government collapses." The Free Press wants to be more like MGoBlog; not less. And the Free Press needs Michigan football a lot more than Michigan needs the Free Press.

It is good to see Brian's "coaching tree" branching out. In 5-10 Brian will control all of your MGo info feeds.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:01 AM ^
Wolverine partners with freep and Scout partners with detnews.
For the freep haters..........do you boycott Cnnsi and Peter King because they hired Rosenburg?
September 21st, 2011 at 10:11 AM ^
Why has Tim basically vanished from this site (no twitter link, no live blog appearance) while TomVH is still around? Did things not end well with him and Brian? Or maybe ESPN is just a bit further away (Conn) and that allows TomVH a bit of flexibility to hang with the common folk?
September 21st, 2011 at 10:20 AM ^
Tims Twitter presence in Live chats is due to not being removed from auto settings and not an intentional slight/promotion
September 21st, 2011 at 10:27 AM ^
Tom isn't around any more. People link to his stuff, but he won't be posting here again.
September 21st, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
He deserves whatever money he can get. Actually, a POS like the freep giving money to one of the "good guys" for product is really, really cool. Sorta like "stickin it to the man..."
September 21st, 2011 at 11:00 AM ^
People are gonna read the freep, so they might as well have a rad dude writing about Michigan occasionally.
September 21st, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
I agree, but do people really have to read the Free Press? Why does Detroit need two newspapers of arguably equivalent size? Why not just form one "super paper" and cut out the waste? I've never understood it.
September 21st, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
They're basically the same operation thanks to the JOA, and if they cut one of the papers they'd lose a ton of readership.
September 21st, 2011 at 2:56 PM ^
that write for MGoBlog.
September 21st, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
As long as he doesn't write first-hand articles about games he never attended, we're cool.
