Mike Hart to help English at EMU?
According to random internet dude on an EMU forum http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=508490 ...yes.
Sounds plausible. Wheatley was there in '10. Hart might be starting the coaching track sooner than thought.

In the meantime, what does a reputation of "3" mean for the believability of the post?
August 17th, 2011 at 12:11 AM ^
It does not tell you much eitherway.
There was a post on another thread by some bloke named "Eaglehawk: saying Hart will officially join the staff. Take it for what it is worth.

sounds like some pretty reliable inside info to me.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:12 AM ^
But I thought I put it out there. If it proves to be BS so be it.

I can't believe the Lions didn't look at him with Leshoure going down. Hart's blocking ability could be very helpful in keeping Stafford and then Hill healthy. I can't believe Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell got a call before Hart.
Maybe he's helping out the EMU coaching staff knowing the drive to Detroit is really short?

I don't know if you're right, but I like the way you think.
August 17th, 2011 at 5:19 AM ^
I love Mike Hart as much as the next guy but Jerome Harrison had more yards in one game than Mike has in his career.
August 17th, 2011 at 10:00 AM ^
I am a UM fan through and through and love Mike Hart, but the bottom line is he hasn't proven to be a very productive back in the NFL. I know it is hard to be objective when we are fans of a person or team but Mike Hart has proven exactly nothing in the NFL to this point. Celebrate his amazing career at UM but try to be honest about what he has done in the NFL....
August 17th, 2011 at 10:33 AM ^
The one regular season game he got for Indy he was actually quite good before he hurt his ankle. Much better than Donald Brown. Colts fans were all saying "why haven't we been playing this guy?" in the stands.
He's always going to have a very hard time staying healthy though.
August 17th, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
I had picked up Hart for that game and got respectable points out of him for a bye week pickup. I think he still has it just hasnt really been given the chance in game time situations.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:12 AM ^
Just a little more believable.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
That'd be interesting, but I was also hoping an NFL team would pick him up. It'd be sad to see him out of pro ball so soon. He was one of my favorites in college.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:16 AM ^
for a second I thought you meant Hart would be teaching a English undergraduate class.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:52 AM ^
You meant an English class, funny guy.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:19 AM ^
Coach a few years there and work on his hyperboles then maybe take over for Fred.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
Mike Hart is now an assistant coach at EMU. I've been waiting to post until it was on the EMU website (I checked this evening and it still isn't up).
August 17th, 2011 at 12:24 AM ^
Hart played pretty well in his limited role for the Colts. It would be a shame if he couldn't stick in the NFL a little longer.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:27 AM ^
August 17th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Unless Hart has eligibility left, its going to take more than a Wolverine star back as an assistant to help Eastern's program.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:01 AM ^
no respect for Alex Gillett?
August 17th, 2011 at 1:53 AM ^
Gillett is decent, but his O-line on the other hand . . .
August 18th, 2011 at 1:03 AM ^
Speaking as an Eastern alum/fan...I'll have to agree with you there. But we'll see.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
that's unpossible!
August 17th, 2011 at 12:46 AM ^
about this story is that there is a forum dedicated to EMU football.
August 17th, 2011 at 4:36 AM ^
that EMU appears to be head-and-shoulders ahead of Mississippi State in total net blog exposure? Not just from the EMU forum itself, but the mentions on related Michigan websites is probably many times greater, in raw page views, than the ntMsu blogging footprint.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:44 AM ^
Hart will be Fred Jackson's successor whenever he decides to hang it up. I jsut have a feeling.
August 17th, 2011 at 5:52 AM ^
What's to stop Mike from driving a few miles down the road to visit his alma matre from time to time? Shadow the coaching staff? Pick up a few pointers? Say hi to Mike Shaw?
August 17th, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
We play EMU this year.
August 17th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
I meant after that formality is said and done.

Looks like its official. Here is an article in Det News http://detnews.com/article/20110817/SPORTS0203/108170327/Former-U-M-running-back-Mike-Hart-follows-heart--takes--grunt--job-with-Eastern

You're telling me that there is an EMU forum? Get out!
August 18th, 2011 at 1:04 AM ^
Believe it or not, there is one....
August 17th, 2011 at 8:18 AM ^
I for one am glad for Mike Hart, if his dream is to be a coach, then great. He is starting off with a coach he knows, he is living very close to where his college career took off. What a great deal for him. You never know what might happen in the world of coaching, hope he has great success in the future, just never against Michigan. One day, he may get to come home.
August 17th, 2011 at 8:21 AM ^
Well, this can only be good for foreign relations. Moving from the staid UK to Ypsilanti requires quite an adjustment, and who better to help our limey friends make that transition than Mike Hart.
August 18th, 2011 at 3:26 AM ^
yet he sits there ignoring the poor Scots and Welsh exchange students
August 17th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
Obviously he knows the position. Can the young man recruit and also at EMU how sincere will that message come across? Kind of a high-profile name for English but when chatting with a player are they believing he is staying at EMU for more than is necessary? Hart is pretty tight with Barwis - I have no idea what relevance that has but it just crossed my mind.
August 17th, 2011 at 10:01 AM ^
It's great to hear that Mike is "all in" for Coach English and EMU and happy with his decision to move on from pro football. I would have loved for him to find a gig on a new team, but I want him to be productive and not just bust his ass to sit on the bench or get injured. I wish him the best and very much hope he is a coach at Michigan someday. He's the consummate Wolverine

I have to think Hart's not long for the post, just like Wheatley before him. It'll be nice to see him on the sidelines this fall, though, before he moves on to a real team where they actually win games and whatnot.
