But if Sarniak chose to speak out, I'm sure he could say a great deal about his interactions not only with Pryor, but also with Tressel. Dennis Talbot could say a great deal, if he were so inclined.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
Because Los Angeles, CA and Miami, FL are a far cry from places like South Bend, IN and Columbus, OH.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
Great read, Miami is screwed. That is all/

"Oh my god the quarterback U is toast!"
August 16th, 2011 at 8:03 PM ^
So who won the 02 national championship if both teams were being paid?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
I would like to give it to Colorado, who lost the Alamo Bowl after blowing a field goal attempt, because I almost felt bad for them, having taken it to the Badgers for most of that game.

"Princeton could use a guy like Nevin Shapiro."
August 17th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
I was just thinking about that old SI issue. That was what, two NCAA investigations ago for them?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:12 PM ^
Holy shit.....the Hurricanes may have to forfeit everything up to the people who first thought of making football a varsity sport down there. Those people, probably long deceased, might have to forfeit their living descendants.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
Wow.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
But Shapiro says therein lies the twist. He believes the University of Miami didn’t want to know what he was doing – that the school looked the other way because it was desperate to retain a booster who had donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the program. This is kind of the money quote in my mind. Also, the part that disturbed me the most was the part about giving cash rewards for hurting opposing players was really sad. I hope they get completely hammered. That is not what college sports, or sports in general is about (obviously).
August 16th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
what a waste of that guy's money
August 16th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
Doesn't sound like it was his money he was wasting.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
As a VT fan , seeing a bitter rival get their comeuppance
August 16th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
The news isn't as shocking coming from a FL school (especially Miami) but doode, I'm so sick of is these rich white assholes who do this crap.
Though there's a ton of money down here, a s-ton of people in south Florida are dirt poor, and their upbringings would give most Americans nightmares. I can't blame these kids for taking money, women, alcohol or whatever from this loser.
With all that being said... the pict of Donna with the check is kind of awesome.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
I mean, its debatable if you can blame the players for taking cash. I would definitely argue that I CAN blame the players for taking prostitutes. These guys are college football players. If they need some rich white dude to pay for their ass, they have no game.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
LOL. You can't be serious. You think Shapiro said "here are your prostitutes!" Dude, no. He set up a party at a hotel and there happened to be girls there. The players never knew they were paid until after the fact. I can bet on that.
And if you were 18 and went to a party with girls (who happened to be Miami hookers, but you didn't know that) and they wanted to service you I am pretty damn certain you would be pants down like a 4 year old at a urinal in zero seconds. Hell, I would right now and I am 28.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
The article specifically says that parties with multiple women weren't the only form of prostitution.
In individual situations, he would set up a player with a hotel room and have a woman sent to their location.or
Shortly after the purchase of Shapiro’s $1.6 million yacht in the spring of 2003, the booster said he stopped convening larger scale “parties” and began offering prostitutes for individual players on his boat or in hotel rooms. One former offensive starter for the Hurricanes confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that he had sex with a prostitute paid for by Shapiro and confirmed that other teammates did as well. He described in detail how the incident took place, but asked that the specifics not be shared for publication for fear of retribution. Those quotes make it sound a lot like Shapiro did just say "here are your prostitutes!". The article specifically uses the word "offering" in the second paragraph which suggests the players were told in advance, and it sounds like the players knew about it from what the former player said. Further, the party situation, that you describe above makes it sound like there were a few women for many more players. In which case, maybe the players didn't know they were prostitutes, but I can guarantee you I would NOT "be pants down like a 4 year old at a urinal in zero seconds" if I was scooping sloppy 5ths on some blown out chick after the Oline got done with her. If you would, that is your prerogative, but I think for you to suggest that everyone in the world would be down to bone some random skeeze that your teammate just did would be naive.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:22 PM ^
I still believe that the kids didn't know they were prosties before hand. The language, in my opinion, insinuates that the investigators knew yet the kids did not. That's just how I read it.
Also as far as the sloppy thirds... ... depends on how hot she is. Yep, I said it.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^

Glass houses, dude. You're telling me if your #1 happened to get boned by your buddies you wouldn't? It always depends on how hot she is. Always.

Well maybe eventually, but not in a gang bang context...

i suppose this puts a damper on the meme that randy shannon cleaned up the U
August 16th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
Exactly. I remember when he got fired there were commentators saying that it was an injustice that he was fired because he was brought in to clean up the program and that's exactly what he did. Just shows that a lot of these commentators talk out of their ass.
August 17th, 2011 at 8:51 AM ^
in randy's defense though, I think the number of arrests came way down under his leadership but it sounds like not much else did
August 16th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
I know the NCAA said it's unlikely to issue another death penalty. But if even half the Yahoo charges are accurate, and given the previous scandal at Miami, how could this be anything but a death penalty situation? Talk about new levels of arrogance and reckless disregard.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
Mark Emmert will let his mentor at Ohio walk, and they will bring the hammer down on Miami so serverely that nobody will be able to say Emmert is "soft" on anyone. They should have a fucking parade in Columbus today.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
connection between Emmert and Gee ?
didn't know that one was their !
where at ?
if so, huge conflict of interest, very worried a handslap will happen, now that Miami is about to go down in Flames

How the hell is the SEC not getting in trouble?! Are they that much better at cheating than everyone else?
August 16th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
Devoted local media. The turning point in the OSU case to some extent was when the local papers & TV stations started going after the program, and of course we all know about the Freep. So long as the media in the South is all over the SEC, we won't see any action.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
Auburn should by all accounts be getting thier shit pushed in. Also, how did M(iss)SU not get in more trouble for putting up an offer for Cam Newton and being out bid? That's like calling the cops to tell them someone stole your crack.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
The SEC has experienced boosters. Through generations of cheating, they have passed down effective ways to avoid detection. Kind of a continuous improvement program from all the times they got caught.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
wow! One thing to consider though is the ncaa has to prove all of this which I am sure they wont be able too. But even if a quarter of it gets charged by the ncaa that should be enough to destroy miami sports.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
Miami is my second favorite school and we're about to get nailed. It's a shame because we finally got the right guy in Al Golden.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
only got half way through but it sounds like miami is in deep, deep trouble. as long as the NCAA pulls its head out of its butt, miami is doooooooomed. I've never seen such damning evidence so readily confirmed by a multitude of sources.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
and I have hated Da U since I could remember watching college football. After reading that article, I feel like *I* need a shower right now. That's some serious shudder in the fetal position reading.
