O'Connor to Sparty
MLive reporting that Lima (OH) QB Tyler O'Connor gave his verbal commitment to Sparty this evening, picking MSU over Northwestern.

but... I would rather have appleby
Meh. If we didn't offer him, I don't care.
Had he camped or held out then he was probably one of our primary backup plans in case we miss on all our current offerees.
I actually think this is a good pickup for Sparty. But with Denard, DG and Morris in the fold, I'm not exactly concerned for our QB future. There are other options at QB for this class anyway.
Oh no, I know he was supposed to camp for an offer. I actually prefer Appleby though.
With Morris coming in the 2013 class, I would prefer to use the scholly for an O or D lineman.
With Michigan and Oregon.
Not sure what that means.
I imagine he called Brady Hoke's office and perhaps Chip Kelly's as well.
He held a workout in May. Coaches from several colleges, including Michigan, were in attendance. I would have taken O'Connor over the other area product Maty Mauk in a heartbeat.
Is this a sleep depriving loss for Michigan?
Hardly.
I reserve the right to re-evaluate that 3-4 years down the road .
Wish him good luck, except when playing Michigan.
Time to move on.
Pretty solid pickup for Sparty.
No surprise. Are MSU fans out celebrating by burning couches and getting tear gassed?
Good pickup for Sparty IMO. Not going to be a superstar, but a good prospect to develop while backing up for a few years.
RCMB thinks he might be the next Andrew Luck.
Also, that they're going to move from "wide receiver U" to "quarterback U".
These are a few of my favorite things.
It has been linebacker u since greg jones came in
It has been linebacker u since greg jones came in
This deserves to be said 3 times.
Let's not forget "Michigan State IS football." I laughed out loud the first time I saw someone wearing that shirt.
Neat.
As someone who lives in Lima, its really neat that he's going to a Big Ten school. Since he didn't go to my high school however, I'm not sure I can root for him like I did Travis Walton.
Good pickup for them, not a big concern for us for now.
Kewl beans.
Most underrated movie ever.
It's too legit. It's too legit to quit.
Pardonne mon ignorance!
Hot Rod, it is hilarious
Actually a solid pickup for sparty. Apparently an Elite 11 finalist this year. Really doesn't matter who we get this year anymore with Morris next year though.
Scout has him in the 30's at the position and Rivals unrated to date...
won't be any better than a brian hoyer
That's a nice pickup for Sparty. O'Connor seems like he could be a good successor in the mold of Cousins/ Maxwell/ Cook in that he's solid and will fit their system.
Sounds like they are getting typical "average" Sparty players. That should translate into a few bowl games and a lot of 5-7 to 8-4 seasons. And they should be back to beating Michigan about once in every three or four tries.
You're really hung up in a state of denial (like most Michigan fans).
I think we have to (even if begrudgingly) give respect to what Dantonio is doing at MSU. It's pretty much accepted by most in the media (I know, guys in the media know nothing, but still) that Dantonio has turned things around in Lansing and as long as he is there, they're going to be good.
This "average" sparty player talk is pretty lame. And if nothing else, Dantonio has had time to build depth, and is very good at developing the players he gets.
We're pretty much in their rear-view mirror right now, and just wishing them to be bad and for the good old days to return isn't gonna cut it. That's pretty delusional talk right now, because we have a LOOOONNNGGG way to go to even get back to respectability.
I sincerely hope fortune finds that he has to play his Freshman year.
Tyler O'Connor is a good player - good pickup for Sparty to be honest. These are the kind of qb's that dantonio develops into Kirk Cousins - which I would say is a great outcome.
I actually think Tyler may have even more upside than Cousins as he appears to be a really smart player....
what? That is cousins' biggest attribute. If he wasn't as intelligent on the field as he is he wouldn't be playing college football. I dont think that will put O'Connor ahead of Cousins at all
Off-season bro
I hope that 'bro' was a subtle jab at the previous comment and not just a run of the mill bro, brosef.
No worries bro
This commitment seems to fit what MSU has been doing at the QB position--they recruit guys with the measurables and then develop them into junior or senior starters. Dantonio has made it clear they're going to win games on the ground, anyway. This is a good pickup for them.
They will probably land Dennis Norfleet because Hoke won't offer.
Who gives a shit?
He's good, that.s it. His numbers were not as good as even Tolzien and Stanzi and they played a pretty WEAK schedule. Should not be discussed as an all Big Ten or Heisman (god no) candiate, IMO.
This kid fits the same mold. Meh..OK he's going to be fine
