6'5" 3-star wing. Canadian. Offers from Butler, Okie State, Stanford, Wake and KANSAS.
#32 SF to ESPN, #106th overall to Rivals.
May be that he had an offer from Butler. Apparently that's a good thing these days...
Who knows, maybe he's got a four inch growth spurt in him and we can pick up the next Heyward.
Hope we're in on a big man too, that would be a nicely rounded class.
Dylan said in his overview that this fills the last open slot for the 2012 class. So not sure if we'd have have room unless someone leaves. Does seem odd that we'd take a pair of 6'5 wings for the only two spots unless the idea is to straight up replace Novak and Douglass.
If you're referring to recruits in 2012 class, that leaves out Glenn Robinson III. he's 6'6" and still growing (Speculation that he'll grow to 6'8"-6'9" and play the 4 in the next level in which he's projected to play at Michigan).
That's who I was talking about. If he's projected to grow that much then forget what I said.
Glenn Robinson III to be just as tall as his dad who is 6'8"-6'9". His dad was a monster when he played for Purdue. Dominant low post scorer yet still have the touch to make mid-range jumper. His son is a much different player(like Tim Hardaway Jr. and his dad). More of a wing player who can shoot and slash.
Reportedly, Terry MIlls was a G/F wing-type player until he had a 6-inch growth spurt. I agree that GRIII should end up being about as tall as his dad and turn into a 4 with outside range. Beilein is sorta like Chuck Daly was; he seems happy to let his 5 shoot 3-pointers.
When he actually grows, and it isn't speculation.
he's only 16 and still growing. It's very likely that he'll grow to 6'8" when he enters Michigan. It's only 2 years away and he's still a kid.
How tall's his mom? Means about as much.

And the scary thing is, now it's only about a year and a half away from enrolling...it seemed like forever when he committed.
do things like X-Rays to check growth plates and what not these days, you know.

People are not all the same.
Who knew?
Do you know my dad? You probably don't but he'd two inches taller than me. So it is possible for a son to be less tall than his father. Just sayin'.

I'm about 3-4 inches taller than my dad, and much taller than my mom.
So you're saying theres a chance Glenn Robinson III could be 7'1?!?! Fantastic!

is 5"-6" taller than his dad.
Just saying
He's not planning on staying past his Junior year.
Didn't want to jinx anything but yeah that's my thinking as well. Not something to be concerned with immediately but there could be another addition to the class later if Beilein wants.
This year. That he hopefully won't have to use, full time, till next year (at earliest).

And that's completely dodging any Hardaway questions...
I don't see a problem with this, all four of our current big men won't be gone until after the 2013-2014 season. The 2013 class MUST have one or two now, assuming a spot doesnt clear up for 2012.

We may some 4s, but no one on the current roster is a 5.
March 27th, 2011 at 12:17 PM ^
What is a 5 anyway? What teams have 5's? Is Sullinger a 5? He plays like a 5 but is not really tall enough to be considered a "true" 5. Ralph Sampson III, he ain't nothing but a tall small forward. Duke has a couple 5's but they ain't anything to drool over.
I don't think we need a five, be nice to have a Tim McCormick or a Roy Tarpley but they don't come around very often. Nobody on M's NC squad was a 5. Weber and Howard weren't 5's either, only 5 on that team was Riley and he didn't even start.
Unless we get a guy like Sim Bhullar we aren't going to have a 5 and I think Belien is just fine with that. If Belien can find a 6'10'' guy who can play D in the post and step out and hit the 3, he will be happy with that.
both had very good back to the basket games. Webber could also defend against the other teams big man because of his strength and athleticism. You knew during crunch time if you fed Webber in the post he was going to score and on D he would clear the boards. Kevin McHale was another guy that had a protypical 5 hole game yet he played the four. Sullinger, while not ideal height wise, is very good with his back to the basket and is a rebounding machine.
If you want to be elite you have to have someone you know is going to get that big defensive rebound in crunch time. To many times this team plays great D only to give up an offensive rebound when they can least afford it.
Well Duke and Butler made it to the championship game last year without a great rebounder, most teams don't have that deluxe rebounder. I agree with you though, you would love to have that guy. It would be awesome for M if Horford or Beilfeldt developed a nice outside game on O, and were able to dominate the glass on the defensive boards.
I think we will be fine once Morgan, Bielfeldt, Horford mature and gain more experience. I think we can get deep into the tourney with the roster we have now, tricky part is keeping it toghether. We need Morris and Hardaway to sign contracts binding them to M for at least 2 more years.
Great news. I was high on this kid but didnt think we'd get him.
Is 6 flagrant fouls Canadian greater than 6 flagrant fouls US? What's the exchange rate?
Stauskas for quite some time. Got his man again.
Dylan's bottom line analysis:
Stauskas is a great fit because of his size and shooting ability. He’s versatile enough to play numerous positions in Michigan’s offense – most likely the two and three – and will be a great complement to some of the other guards on Michigan’s roster. Joining the roster after Stu Douglass and Zack Novak graduate, there’s also a pretty significant hole in regards to three point scoring production.
Rivals lists offers from Michigan, Iowa State, and Wake Forest.
There doesn't appear to be a lot of consistency across the sites on his offer sheet. I'm just going off of what Dylan put in the welcome post.
Thats what I figured, not trying to call you out, just simply checking. I assume he has talent if Beilein offered, the future looks bright for Michigan basketball.
Even he didn't have offers, there seems to have been interest from both Kansas and Butler which says a lot. Appears to be a really talented kid.
hope that he pans out better then our last canadian...
i like this guy. sorta reminds me of jon scheyer. shoots well quickly and drives the ball inside. nice!

Plus he'll bring some of that Lithuanian mojo to Crisler.

As my last name ends in "aitis", I fully support this statement.
Other great footballers of Lithuanian heritage, not affiliated with The Enemy:
Superbowl Champ Joe Jurevicius (nice tattoo brah)
The Great Butkus
The Great Unitas
Mojo, baby
to have him.

what ended up happening with that huge center? Sim Bhullar i think his name was?
March 26th, 2011 at 10:19 PM ^
On another note, regarding a recruit. Trey Burke's Columbus Northland squad was just smothered by Cincinnati Lasalle. He played shaky but looks to be a nice fit to the Beilein system.
March 26th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
Please don't start second guessing coach Beilein's evaluations. It is clear coach keeps his own counsel when it comes to evaluating talent. Stauskas is no slouch. He is reputed as being a dead eye perimeter shooter (better than Zack or Stu and maybe even on the same level as THJR although he can't create off the dribble like THJR does). This is a GREAT get for us. The kid was being recruited by Stanford, Wake and Georgetown. I rcently read Kansas was ready to offer. The bottom line is we're BACK!!
March 26th, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
His ballhandling looks to be better than THJ's as far as getting to the basket through traffic. Although, THJ will keep developing that, I'm sure. It's really his only weakness on offense.

Driving to the hoop seems to be a pretty good part of Stauskas' game according to UMHoops' commitment post:
Stauskas has terrific shooting range but is more than just a shooter. He does a great job attacking the basket and is an able finisher in the lane. He shows a very good feel for the game and appears to be a solid passer as well. He’s not a great athlete in terms of lateral quickness but he’s an above average leaper. His skill set and shooting ability combined with his 6-foot-5 (and growing) size make him a very intriguing prospect. One scouting website called him a “high major shooter deluxe” and that’s probably fitting; a shooter first and foremost that can do enough of the little things to elevate his game.

Does this mean that Sim Bhullar cannot come now, with no scholarships left to give????
March 26th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^
No. We'll likely have 1-2 open slots due to possible early NBA departure and garden variety attrition.
But even then, I really doubt Bhullar is even a twinkle in Beilein's eye. He'll go after Jordan Hare first, at the very least.
March 27th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
You certainly could be right. There are a ton of options, including kids we haven't even heard of yet. As long as we pull in one "big", I'll be happy - whether it's Bhullar or someone else
March 27th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
and quite skinny. We need someone 6'10" or taller that is built like a post and not like McLimas.
