You Know What I'm Happy About?

I'm happy that the basketball team has occupied my attention and I don't have to read the BS spring practice articles on the Wolverine or otherwise about the football team, stating that Donovan Jeter is the next Aaron Donald and J.J. McCarthy looks like a young Peyton Manning.

Since when did spring practice start? No fucking clue and IDGAF. Is there someone stepping up at (whatever position we need someone to do so)? No idea! And please don’t tell me! Will there be a spring game? Who the fuck cares? There’s literally nothing to clean from these “games”

Two years ago I stopped watching the games live.  It was amazing to get my Saturdays back.  Especially in the fall months when the weather is perfect outside.

It feels liberating not to have that albatross of fandom around my neck anymore.

I am now a grandfather as of 24 hours ago.  The bubbly left over from last night is tasting pretty good.  Maybe UCLA will go on a run.  Soon, I will quit drinking and go to bed.

I wish everyone that reads this thread a superb basketball bracket and a March Madness experience that exceeds all expectations.  Courage and Go BLUE!

It's hard for me to believe that year in, year out, we are that much worse than Ohio State. They can't win on the national CFP stage, so there's a big gap between them and say, Alabama. They may be above everyone in the Big Ten, but they're not as elite as they appear. They're just in a pretty meh conference. Part of it, IMO, is mental. It's been so long since we've beaten them that we've forgotten how to do it. There's some strange bad juju there, and someone needs to burn some sage or pull out a voodoo doll to undo all those bad vibes. There's just no logical reason that this program can't figure out how to win against Ohio State.

I agree.  We had the talent to beat OSU for a number of years and couldn't catch a break.  Then, for the last 2 (3?) games we mentally folded in the coaches corner and on the field (panic.)  I will weep for joy the next time I see the Wolverines successfully run a 2-minute drill or start the game with a successful scripted drive (against any opponent.)

Doesn't want to read about M football. Starts thread about M football. Claims to not care about M football. Talks about M football the day before March Madness. Seem insane?

The biggest FB failure(s) were getting blown out in 2018 by an OSU that had to rally late at Maryland just to force OT that they won on a failed 2 pt conversion.

That loss was similar to the 2004 loss at OSU when Ernest Shazor (mentioned in another article here) fell asleep and let Gonzalez blow past him for an opening TD that seemed to set the tone for a terrible day in Columbus. I will give Lloyd the benefit of the doubt that day because of the wins 1995-96-97.

When did JH actually win a big game everyone thought he would lose?

Other than the 2018 game at MSU with the pre-game festivities and the post game comments at the 21-7 94 yards - I can't say he's ever met my expectations.

I'm really happy for the basketball team's success and am glad we got Juwan and he's been so successful so far.  But, football keeps the lights on in the athletic department just like at every other P5 program.  UM will always be a football school no matter how much they flounder and UM fans will never be happy without football success.  There will always be angst there when the football program is struggling.  This is just the reality.  Acceptance is always an important component in happiness.

Acceptance is always an important component in happiness.

The last sentence is actually the most important part of your post.

I've accepted Michigan is not, contrary to what a lot of us grew up believing, an elite program.

The reasons why the football talk continues is such a way is others have hot accepted that yet.

It's almost like people go back to some kind of deju vu from their youth when they hear Michigan isn't elite -- like being told santa claus isn't real, and the reaction now is to metaphorically come out swinging.
