Would you rather

I’m sorry. This is the longest week ever. Can’t stop thinking about this game.

With that being said, here’s a stupid would you rather question that will surely illicit some snarky responses but I want to ask anyway.

Would you rather be behind by 2 lining up a 40 yard fg on the last play or ahead by 5 on the last play with OSU 2 yards away from the winning score?

For the record I’d rather our third string fullback plows into Urban on the sideline up 35 in garbage time, but that wasn’t an option.

Kick the field goal, for sure. Especially after what we saw from Moody on Saturday, I have a lot more faith in our kicking game. And the outcome is more or less entirely in our hands.

I feel like with the other situation it’s really 50/50 at best. You have no idea what OSU is going to throw at you, and with a guy like Martell who would undoubtedly be inserted into the game, that makes that situation that much harder to defend.

That being said, if we come down to either situation I’m probably going to throw up.

Depends on if it’s Nordin or Moody kicking. If it’s Nordin kicking and it’s 4th & OSU is on our 2, I’ll take our defense to win it. We’d have to beat both OSU and the refs on that 4th & 2 but I’d take that any day.

I’ll take Moody and the 40 yarder...2 yds isn’t enough room, from the 6 yd line...then I’d take our D

I think there is less chance of getting screwed by refs on the FG but then again Mike Lantry might disagree.

I'm likely alone on this one, but I'd prefer to be up by 5 and have our D line bring the pain and "make them feel you" obliterate everything in their path. I also assumed we win in either scenario and winning on defense fits the teams pattern for this season ?

Honestly, not enough info to make a decision.  It depends on the gameflow.

Has Moody/Nordin been money until that point?  Has our defense been playing lights out?  Have any significant injuries occurred?

Assuming our defense is playing well, and no significant injuries, I'd rather take that second scenario.  We have the lead so any number of outcomes can allow us to win (botched snap, fumble, incomplete pass, defensive stop, INT).  We would only need one of those to happen.

In the first scenario, everything must go right for us to win, with very little margin for error.  Snap needs to be right, ball has to be handled right, all blocking needs to be right, and the kick needs to be true.

Scenario 1 requires one of any "OR" events to happen.  Scenario 2 requires a lengthy chain of "AND" to happen.  Unless OSU is shredding us on the ground, I like the defensive stand better

What if on the FG attempt, Urban has all 3 time-outs and decides to use them all? My heart might actually burst in that situation.

Though it would be cool if we went ahead and kicked the FGs, missed all 3 after the TOs and then made the one that counts. That might kill Urban.

I think I'd rather have the D on the field protecting a lead.  Moody is great but he is still a college kicker and a young one at that.

This proposition reminds me of that movie, Saw.

I’m going for the FG. After the fucking “spot” 2 years ago, I do not want this game coming down to any short yardage  situation.

Just win baby!  But to answer your question, no doubt I would go with the field goal.  You would have to push OSU out of the red zone for me to consider the defensive stop scenario.
