Utes fans plan to distribute Alex Smith heads on Sep 3 to "haunt" Harbaugh

Submitted by unWavering on

According to a Utes sportswriter, Utah fans are planning to distribute Alex Smith heads around the stadium for the game.

Word on the street is Alex Smith heads will be randomly distributed throughout RES. Welcome to Utah, Harbaugh.

I'm unclear as to what the dig is supposed to be - Harbaugh is widely credited with turning Alex Smith's career around. Perhaps they are trying to overwhelm Harbaugh with examples of his good coaching?

At any rate, this does make me want to see the Utes go down more than I already did.  They seem pretty dismissive of Michigan as a whole (which I can't blame them for given our last couple of meetings).

Let us distribute the heads of one of your old players. While you're at it, trench under the stadium and set fire to the footings, drop dead cattle into the water source, and catapult the heads of current fans into the court yard.... Jim MF HARBAUGH, Kick their A$$!!!

What??? Is this a taunt on Rudock? If Rudock plays like Smith, we are going to win big. I hope Rudock does. If you really want to taunt him, have the head of SanFran Owner and GM. I gave it away. Oops... I am hoping M fans will represent well in the stadium.

Reminding an opposing coach that he turned a crappy QB into a good one almost immediately? Hm... the mormons' tactics are tricky. Good thing we don't have to play at BYU, they'd probably put up posters of Harbaugh.

Think about the possibilities for a rivalry here... Great Salt Lake vs. Lake Huron (or Michigan, Superior, Erie, St. Clair, Houghton, Crystal...) Jazz vs. Pistons Real Salt Lake vs. AFC Ann Arbor Beer with 3% or lower alcohol content vs. Bells and Founders Brighton Ski Resort vs. Mt. Brighton Brigham Young vs. Coleman Young Delta Hub vs. Delta Hub

Drew Hallett put this on Twitter days ago. It's just so ...not clever or funny or really, anything. I suppose it will be somewhat amusing to see if anyone at the game actually uses them and if so, when and how. Otherwise ....It's just ...so ...lame ....so .......Utah.

1. You are not going to mess with Harbaugh's head. He will love this. And if he didn't, he's the king of mental focus.

2. Even though it's utterly confusing, the overaching idea is to mess with Harbaugh. Anyone who plays for Harbaugh is not going to like this. Thus, this is going to get your opponent even more eager to kick your ass.

Just an overall dumb idea. I like it.

I mean, if Smith was a better QB Harbaugh might have actually won a Super Bowl. I guess that could "haunt" him. Not sure why Utah wants to celebrate that though.

Harbaugh turned that guys career around and could be viewed as one of the best examples of why harbaugh is such a great coach. How is this supposed to get in his head?

The 49ers still came within an overtime loss in the NFC Championship Game to making it to the Super Bowl with Smith. No guarantee they would have won, of course, but then again they didn't win the Super Bowl with Kaepernick either.

We live in a world where Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson have won as many Super Bowls as Peyton Manning and where Eli Manning has won more. Yeah, the team with the better QB is going to win more often, but that's far from the only factor.

I imagine even alex smith thinks this a dumb idea. Yea, I hate the man who made me good so I was able to milk it into the most ridiculous nfl contract ever.

First they get their panties in a bunch about the Popular Mechanics article. Now this? A storm is heading in from up North. Game time is under a week away and they already lost.

Guys - Jim Harbaugh is our coach. He's going to be roaming the sideline for us on Thursday. We could have easily been stuck with Hoke this fall. Let THAT sink in for a moment. Buckle up. It's going to be a hell of a ride.

I figured it out.

Smith was a QB at Utah. He played for Jim Harbaugh in the NFL. Harbaugh benched him and went to the Super Bowl, but turned his career around and got him a huge contact. Ipso facto, Utah fans are stupid.

Talking to a few Utah fans on Twitter, it sounds like there isn't really a good reason for this, other than to stand behind their guy who they feel Harbaugh wronged.

At the Broncos v 49ers preseason game last night a Niner fan told me he was glad Harbaugh was gone and that he'd thrown the SuperBowl against the Ravens to help his brother. I told him to enjoy a 6-10 season.

As a long time Niners fan, I am also very glad Harbaugh is gone.....just for a completely different reason.  Thank you San Fran (or that idiot York) for being stupid enough to let Jimmy come home.

If I did not bleed blue, I would have wanted to gouge my eyes out over the release of Harbaugh.  As a Wolverine fan, I couldn't thank them enough.  I'd endure 100 years of the Niners sucking (without even negotiating, more if req'd to make the deal) to save Michigan Football!!

Go Blue!!!

Oh I know, the guy was a clown. He was running his mouth about the Seahawks beating the Broncos in the SB and I replied by saying letting JH go was the biggest mistake SF ever made. That's when he said Harbaugh was too conservative and threw the SB vs John Harbaugh
