(UPDATE!) STUDENTS: BRANDON IS NOT MICHIGAN, WE ARE. BOYCOTT PENN STATE KICKOFF

Submitted by kakusei on

Working on pulling this together, talking with CSG members to figure out best way to get this moving.  In the meantime, I created a facebook event below (at the very least, this will confirm or deny my assumption about students desire to boycott kickoff)

Here is the link to the event page: if you are sympathetic to the cause please join! support our team and student-athletes while making a poignant statement about this inept administration.

Share this with your friends and across social media; lets bring more attention to our cause.

I know. That is my point. What makes anyone think Brandon cares if or when the students show up? He already has their money. Money is his top goal.

I don't think anyone involved is interested in sending a message to DB, he already knows most fans hate him and isn't bothered in the least. The point is to let everyone ELSE know how hated DB is by the fans.

DB isn't going to resign or fire himself for being a complete douche, people want the ones with the power to do that to understand how unhappy things are right now so whether money is made or not in this case is irrelevant.

shouting 'fire brandon' as often as possible is a good idea..

putting those in charge on notice that attendance in the future will suffer with a symbolic, visual indication of the fans willingness to not be present is also a good idea.....assuming it can be accomplished with great enough numbers....a significant number of fans and huge empty sections of the stadium, even temporarily, will speak volumes to those in power that goes beyond a simple chant.

The guy played here.  My son was in the newborn intensive care unit at Motts with his family name on it.  He left a high paying job to come here because of his love for the school.

You may not like the guy, but to say he is not dedicated to the university is ignornace.

I am not happy with the football team as much as anyone, but look at the success of Baseketball and other sports.  Plus events like the soccer game at the stadium.  The big new athletic campus being built.

His success goes beyond the football field.

A lot of people here are saying that he's evil. There have been at least a dozen threads over the last six months that were exclusively devoted to perjorative comments about his character. He sucks at this portion of his job, yeah. But I don't think he's actively malicious or cares exclusively about money. He quite clearly cares very deeply about Michigan, he's just going about it the wrong way.

While you can accuse Dave of many things, claiming he is "NOT MICHIGAN" is not one of them.  Dare I say that Dave Brandon has much more invested in the University than the casual alumnus or fan.  To say otherwise is just misinformed!  I am fairly certain that Dave does not want his tenure to be defined by the faiures of the Football Program.

I agree with not boycotting the kickoff. The players and university have already been embarrassed enough by the national media, the last thing they need is for an empty Michigan Stadium on primetime TV for everyone to make fun of. On the other hand, I love the idea of a constant "Fire Brandon" chant and would gladly participate in that!

chant.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S SUITE Enjoy your next event from the luxuries of the Athletic Director's private suite. This space is located in the east tower and offers a great view of Michigan Stadium. This small space allows for a small group dinner or walking reception. Rental Cost: $4,500 Capacity: 42

http://www.mgoblue.com/specialevents/rentals.html Or perhaps point at the suites on the Michigan side as a proxy for the athletic department, as pointing at the suites on the opponent's side would likely be confusing to the typical viewer.

Dude, again, congregating outside of the section gates is going to get you all dispersed for creating a "fire hazard" or some made up DB excuse.

Congregate outside the gates to the Stadium.

Funny how sentiments change after just a few short days. When this was first posted, this had 103 upvotes and 13 downvotes with a bunch of support in the comments. It's still early, but right now it's 4 up, 5 down. We Michigan fans are a fickle bunch.

You tell us what we are going to do and we will organize our fellow students.  Let's decide with  a consensus on what form of protest we are going to do on Saturday

There are more direct ways of voicing displeasure with DB.  This is indirect and has the greater effect of telling the football team that the students don't support them.

Chant Fire Dave all you want.  Protest wherever you want.  But don't tell the team that you care more about firing DB than supporting them.

This is visible and public. It is direct. It will be maximally direct if they show up for pregame events and then leave en masse for kickoff before returning.

There is no distinction between demanding DB's firing and supporting the team. People want DB fired so that an AD that better supports the team can be hired.

I think these threads are completely embarrassing. The damage has already been done. Don't stop going to the games just to keep beating the dead horse. Brandon will be on his way, just let the rest play out.

Go to the game and cheer for our boys. This could be a big win for us. Also empty seats will only hurt our recruiting more.

Whoever boycotts the game or any game is ridiculous and complete moron. I totally get DB is bad but to do something like not show up to a game to make another stupid protest is sad. You are embarrassing the school even more. Support the Team not DB.

This just makes all us Michigan fans look bad if you do something stupid like this. It's NOT about YOU its about the Team 135.

Can I ask you why you think there is a cause and effect relationship between attendance and recruiting?  I actually DID recruit for MIchigan for three years (92-94) and during those three years exactly ZERO potential recruits asked one question about attendance.  They want to kow about coaches, playing time, schemes and pro-prospects.

The #1 reason recruits are decommitting right now is the job uncertainty of Hoke and the fact they dont know who their coaches will be for the next four years.  Attendance means almost nothing.
