(UPDATE!) STUDENTS: BRANDON IS NOT MICHIGAN, WE ARE. BOYCOTT PENN STATE KICKOFF
Working on pulling this together, talking with CSG members to figure out best way to get this moving. In the meantime, I created a facebook event below (at the very least, this will confirm or deny my assumption about students desire to boycott kickoff)
Here is the link to the event page: if you are sympathetic to the cause please join! support our team and student-athletes while making a poignant statement about this inept administration.

Share this with your friends and across social media; lets bring more attention to our cause.

the title and message, they are just boycotting kickoff so tickets being bought doesn't really have anything to do with it.

I don't think anyone involved is interested in sending a message to DB, he already knows most fans hate him and isn't bothered in the least. The point is to let everyone ELSE know how hated DB is by the fans.
DB isn't going to resign or fire himself for being a complete douche, people want the ones with the power to do that to understand how unhappy things are right now so whether money is made or not in this case is irrelevant.

apparently
October 7th, 2014 at 12:31 PM ^
And that's what dumb about the idea. They're going to boycott like five minutes of a 3-hour broadcast.
The "come early and chant stuff" plan makes a lot more sense to me.
October 7th, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
shouting 'fire brandon' as often as possible is a good idea..
putting those in charge on notice that attendance in the future will suffer with a symbolic, visual indication of the fans willingness to not be present is also a good idea.....assuming it can be accomplished with great enough numbers....a significant number of fans and huge empty sections of the stadium, even temporarily, will speak volumes to those in power that goes beyond a simple chant.

The guy played here. My son was in the newborn intensive care unit at Motts with his family name on it. He left a high paying job to come here because of his love for the school.
You may not like the guy, but to say he is not dedicated to the university is ignornace.
I am not happy with the football team as much as anyone, but look at the success of Baseketball and other sports. Plus events like the soccer game at the stadium. The big new athletic campus being built.
His success goes beyond the football field.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:46 AM ^
To come here for a very high paying job. Stop acting like he's doing this out of the goodness of his heart. Yes he's done some good things, but he's done some atrocious things as well.

He has a high paying job here, Professor. Higher paying than the job you purport to have, for instance.
Also, nobody is saying he's evil. He's just not good at this job.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
A lot of people here are saying that he's evil. There have been at least a dozen threads over the last six months that were exclusively devoted to perjorative comments about his character. He sucks at this portion of his job, yeah. But I don't think he's actively malicious or cares exclusively about money. He quite clearly cares very deeply about Michigan, he's just going about it the wrong way.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
He's just really fucking terrible at his job, and should be fired
October 7th, 2014 at 12:29 PM ^
To be fair, Brandon has pretty much donated back everything he's been paid. I don't think he's a good AD but his salary is really not an issue.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
While you can accuse Dave of many things, claiming he is "NOT MICHIGAN" is not one of them. Dare I say that Dave Brandon has much more invested in the University than the casual alumnus or fan. To say otherwise is just misinformed! I am fairly certain that Dave does not want his tenure to be defined by the faiures of the Football Program.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
Then perhaps he shouldn't have hired an underqualified candidate for the head coaching position?

chant.
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S SUITE Enjoy your next event from the luxuries of the Athletic Director's private suite. This space is located in the east tower and offers a great view of Michigan Stadium. This small space allows for a small group dinner or walking reception. Rental Cost: $4,500 Capacity: 42
http://www.mgoblue.com/specialevents/rentals.html Or perhaps point at the suites on the Michigan side as a proxy for the athletic department, as pointing at the suites on the opponent's side would likely be confusing to the typical viewer.

With all of 6 people signed up for this on FB, I'm sure it will send a big statement to the AD.

I know it won't happen, but it would be funny

That wouldn've been perfect as fans rushed the field last week at Rutgers. That's exactly how I felt as I laughed at them.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:12 PM ^
I wouldn't mind having the temptation chant changed from "You suck" to "Dave sucks"
October 7th, 2014 at 6:13 PM ^
That would involve 3rd down stops.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:47 AM ^
Chanting or signs might be a better option. Show up for your classmates/players! Please and thank you.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:48 AM ^
I'm guessing Hoke is going to boycott PSU. It would be his 5th boycott this year.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:51 AM ^
I have to admit I laughed at that too.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:50 AM ^
October 7th, 2014 at 11:50 AM ^
Just show up early and cheer on the team. What a positive message that would send.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
You're right. Nothing says you're unhappy with things like pretending everything is A-OK, right?

press that up button multiple times for your post

Dude, again, congregating outside of the section gates is going to get you all dispersed for creating a "fire hazard" or some made up DB excuse.
Congregate outside the gates to the Stadium.

Funny how sentiments change after just a few short days. When this was first posted, this had 103 upvotes and 13 downvotes with a bunch of support in the comments. It's still early, but right now it's 4 up, 5 down. We Michigan fans are a fickle bunch.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:12 PM ^
Not about to.
Once again, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone on this board to not only BOYCOTT KICKOFF but to also get the word out. Unless you want more of the 'same old same old' that we've been putting up with out of DB for all too long, it's time to take action.
October 7th, 2014 at 2:05 PM ^
sorry, BOYCOTT, and tell all my friends, then Hoke will not get fired? ummm....OK.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:57 AM ^
You tell us what we are going to do and we will organize our fellow students. Let's decide with a consensus on what form of protest we are going to do on Saturday
October 7th, 2014 at 11:57 AM ^
This program is toxic and it starts with our fans. I feel sorry for our players and our coaches.
October 7th, 2014 at 11:59 AM ^
October 7th, 2014 at 11:57 AM ^
There are more direct ways of voicing displeasure with DB. This is indirect and has the greater effect of telling the football team that the students don't support them.
Chant Fire Dave all you want. Protest wherever you want. But don't tell the team that you care more about firing DB than supporting them.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
This is visible and public. It is direct. It will be maximally direct if they show up for pregame events and then leave en masse for kickoff before returning.
There is no distinction between demanding DB's firing and supporting the team. People want DB fired so that an AD that better supports the team can be hired.

I think these threads are completely embarrassing. The damage has already been done. Don't stop going to the games just to keep beating the dead horse. Brandon will be on his way, just let the rest play out.
Go to the game and cheer for our boys. This could be a big win for us. Also empty seats will only hurt our recruiting more.
Go Blue!!!

This ^^
October 7th, 2014 at 12:04 PM ^
^^^Over/Under 0.5 UM degrees between the two of you?
Let the students do what they want. They have earned that right.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
As an alum I believe I have earned that right as thanks though.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
This just makes all us Michigan fans look bad if you do something stupid like this. It's NOT about YOU its about the Team 135.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
I think getting blown out by Minnesota at home is more embarassing than the students making their voice heard in a public demonstration promoting change.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
Can I ask you why you think there is a cause and effect relationship between attendance and recruiting? I actually DID recruit for MIchigan for three years (92-94) and during those three years exactly ZERO potential recruits asked one question about attendance. They want to kow about coaches, playing time, schemes and pro-prospects.
The #1 reason recruits are decommitting right now is the job uncertainty of Hoke and the fact they dont know who their coaches will be for the next four years. Attendance means almost nothing.
