I love the energy of these more youthful coaches
February 5th, 2021 at 9:49 PM ^
Meh. The previous staff cast quite a large net as well. Let’s see how the overall class pans out before celebrating. There’s no big trick to “offering” a 4 star that everyone else wants. It’s landing the 4+ start and 5 stars that will make the difference.
February 5th, 2021 at 9:57 PM ^
You mean like the two four stars we got today out of nowhere as a result of one of the new young coaches?
February 5th, 2021 at 10:55 PM ^
The two new 4 starts are an excellent start. My response was to the ”offers” indicating the staff was doing something exceptional.
My only point was that M has always OFFERED a ton of elite prospects.
The key will be how many we reel in. And yes, the two most recent verbal commits are a great start!
For the record, I’m 100% behind JH and have been laughing at all of the whining about how long it took to get his staff retooled. Looking like it worked out pretty well, eh. Including Benny.
February 6th, 2021 at 12:43 AM ^
The staff is doing something exceptional, and the offers are just PART of it. These young coaches are showing an energy and drive that our staff wasn’t showing previously. Mo Linguist is doing WORK right now. Not just because he’s throwing out offers, but because he’s actually getting results. And he’s only been here a short time.

I think these guys are good recruiters, but we're a year away from National Signing Day. A lot can happen between now and then.
Recruiting from SEC country has generally not gone well for Michigan over the past several years (Otis Reese, Kingston Davis, Aubrey Solomon, Keith Washington, Eric Gray, Christian Turner, Jeremiah Holloman, J'Marick Woods, etc.) except for a few successes in Florida (Devin Bush, Josh Uche, etc.).
February 6th, 2021 at 7:25 AM ^
Nico Collins, Chris Hinton, Michael Barrett, plus a fair number of TBD. And isn't Missouri SEC country now too?
February 6th, 2021 at 7:34 AM ^
Anyone can spin a narrative.
Nico Collins Karan Higdon nick Eubanks Cesar Ruiz josh metellus joe Milton Taylor upshaw Sammy faustin mike Barrett Chris Hinton Trente Jones a thinly Solomon Dj turner George Johnson
February 6th, 2021 at 2:43 PM ^
I’m not sure about that list. One NFL guy (Ruiz), one solid WR (Nico), and a serviceable running back (Higdon) and safety (Metellus). The rest haven’t done anything of note at Michigan. Ok, Barrett had one nice sack/caused fumble.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:16 PM ^
Oh yeah, because we all know how well the highly-rated offensive skill players have elevated us recently. DPJ really put us over the top. Charbonnet too.
Hard to get hyped about the offensive players when we can't seem to make much use of them.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:29 PM ^
That isn't true at all. Michigan's defensive recruiting was like the left hand not knowing what the right foot was doing while the right hand was busy jerking off.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:41 PM ^
Sorry you stayed. Best you just move on.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:48 PM ^
Lol. Sick burn dude!
February 5th, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
Seriously. This is the most negative fan base. It’s exhausting.
February 6th, 2021 at 12:04 PM ^
It's a simple function....
Expectations vs. Performance.
Michigan, Texas, Tennessee are exhaustingly negative fanbases right now because they are blue blood programs with entitled fans with delusional expectations based on past performance.
Tennessee, however, has basically accepted their place as an also-ran (with Georgia, LSU, and Florida above them for runner up to Bama), whereas UM and UT still believe in catching the college football elites, which include their respective main rivals, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Once we accept that our performance is basically Iowa, but with a bigger stadium, cooler tradition, and better history - the misery index will start to fall.
February 6th, 2021 at 12:14 PM ^
Negative fans: yes
Routinely underperforming team: yes
Both can be true and tend to correlate.

Use "meh" in a comment, get downvoted
February 6th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
But what the previous staff never did was to invade SEC territory and one call close top talent at positions of need.
This is something different.

JD might not get re signed in Dallas but it's not going to be because they don't love how hard he plays and what he gets out of his size. I'm sure Coach Mo having been coaching him feeds into his authenticity telling kids he can coach them through Michigan on their way to an NFL roster.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
What am I reading? JD?
February 5th, 2021 at 11:08 PM ^
I guess he means Jordan Lewis?
February 6th, 2021 at 5:11 AM ^
Yeah but the whole post was just weird. Talking about JD's FA status really has nothing to do with recruiting.
February 5th, 2021 at 9:59 PM ^
6’1” 160 lb WR. 4* #247 in the composite for those wondering.
https://247sports.com/Player/Barion-Brown-46096621/
Other notable offers include: Bama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:51 PM ^
Damn, 6'1" 160#. Is he even visible on the crossing routes?
February 6th, 2021 at 12:45 AM ^
Could be sophomore weight. Camps were limited and not sure what info they gathered from the season. Not to mention how slow some of these sites are at updating info
February 6th, 2021 at 3:25 AM ^
Thanks for the info Jonny, the OP should always add this info in the body of the post.
Devante Smith would like a word with those who might complain about the size of a receiver, Tyreke Hill as well, if the guy can run fast, catch and run good routes and has good hands, IDGAF how big or small a guy is.
February 6th, 2021 at 5:13 AM ^
It didn't stop people from seeing Devonta Smith last year.
February 6th, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
Only his taillights were visible to mortal men!
February 5th, 2021 at 10:03 PM ^
This is the guy we need from Tennessee. #2 overall player in the country. #1 rated DT. Listed as "warm" for Michigan.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:07 PM ^
I logged on to post this very thing. His 247 profile sure makes it look like we are in his top 5. Wondering if anyone knows anything about this?
February 5th, 2021 at 10:15 PM ^
Sam Webb and Brice March both listed him as a 2022 recruitment to watch on their podcast (with Steve Lorenz) this week. --
This was more of a "lets see how hard they go after a top target with the new staff" - since the word is that the old D staff would offer the top guys but tended to bail pretty quickly unless they got clear reciprocal interest early on.
I do believe Sam said this kid has some family in MI but made it sound like that would only get M's foot in the door and then they would have to duke it out with the 'Bama, OSU, UGAs of the world.
February 5th, 2021 at 11:46 PM ^
we have a better shot than most think.
This staff is very appealing to these recruits
I expect we will be competing for a top three class for 2022.
February 6th, 2021 at 6:13 AM ^
Things can change in a year. Saban is 69 (nice) we don't know how OSU will be without Fields and 3 years removed from Meyer. The key will be Michigan will need to show some signs of life on the field.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:05 PM ^
I hope Tennessee 4* anybody’s look at us the way Don Brown looked at NE FB’s as D-Ends.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
Uh, quit drinking and go to bed......
February 5th, 2021 at 10:49 PM ^
Loosen the Fanny pack and move out of the basement.
February 6th, 2021 at 5:16 AM ^
No, he needs to just keep drinking.
February 5th, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
This is the most ATH designated recruits we've ever gone after
February 6th, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
Take advantage of TN while they are down. I like it.
February 6th, 2021 at 7:54 AM ^
Tennessee high school football is terrible which is weird for such a big state. I watched the state championship this year against our incoming LB’s Colson team and they got whipped by a team that looked like a JV team. Memphis and UT do the bulk of their recruiting elsewhere.
February 6th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
Jesus. Damned if we do damned if we dont.
can you DM Harbaugh and tell him not to recruit NE or Tennessee please
February 6th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
Memphis is a big city and Nashville is growing like crazy and many people are relocating there so I have a feeling high school talent will increase as well.
February 6th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Tennessee is the New, New England?
February 6th, 2021 at 8:31 PM ^
I like the focus in other areas than NE....the south has the better players PERIOD!
