Sparty's Cupcake Conference Schedule

Submitted by Mike Damone on

Sparty may have a good team, but I can't let their regular season BIG championship go without mentioning that they got a HUGE break with their schedule.  Perhaps the most advantageous I have seen.  Consider their schedule against what I consider the top 5 other teams in the BIG:

Michigan - Only played once at home, did not have to play on the road.  Lost at home.

Ohio State - Only played once on the road, and lost.

Purdue, Nebraska and Penn State - Only played once at home and did not have to play on the road.  Won at home.  All three are absolute bears to beat on the road.  Michigan had to play all three on the road, and went 1-2.

Don't want this to be sour grapes, and I know they cant control their schedule.  But man...

Bring on the tourneys, and let the best team prevail!  Go Blue!

at least according to his words. ESPN asks him for comment the previous day about his subversion of Title IX and reporting responsibilities, and he suddenly calms an impromptu press conf for 9 am the next day to retire after 10 years in the role. Snake slithering under the wood pile at the sound of the lawn mower ...

With a cloud over the program while winning, go for it. I like our approach. Not jealous of anyone if the approach is shady.

I was hoping you guys would hold onto number 5 slot and we would win #1 seed just because it gives us another shot at you guys. You know how hard it was to root for you guys to beat OSU? I got sick to my stomach. But hey, the rematch is in sight, and I hope the best team wins.

At Michigan? I have proof and it’s not a fallacy that a person that just left Michigan State couldn’t write a paragraph. An athlete that will go unnamed. So don’t you come here with that all high and mighty crap, about education and athletics! You should be slapped or be fitted with a dunce cap!

But come on, the majority of the athletes that graduate from UM take General Studies and that's not a tough degree to earth. I have several UM alumni friends that I respect and for what field of study that went into, UM is a top 10 school. But let's not confuse the typical athlete's degree with the typical non athlete's degree.

This enough. You cannot even begin to compare schools first of all. But like I said I am aware of a student that got admitted to your school that would have NEVER got admitted to Michigan. Admissions probably gave him the colors test, or say your ABC’s. This is a defunct argument. It’s impermissible.

I don't think you know understand what General Studies is. It's not a major. It means you're designing your own concentration.  It's fairly common among athletes in LS&A because it allows them to schedule classes around their practice time, as otherwise it would be hard to graduate in four years under a lot of concentration paths.  Most BGS students aren't athletes, though.

Students seeking a vigorously student-centered curriculum might consider the Bachelor in General Studies (B.G.S.), a highly interdisciplinary degree that allows students to combine and explore multiple subjects. Students who choose to pursue a B.G.S. work closely with their Newnan Advising Center advisor to create a course plan that feeds their curiosity while meeting the College of LSA’s graduation requirements. Remember a decade ago when Harbaugh bashed Michigan academics for it's athletes?  Mike Hart came out and said he wasn't a Michigan Man?

https://www.mercurynews.com/2007/08/02/michigan-players-coach-lash-out-…

Harbaugh told the Ann Arbor (Mich.) News, “I would use myself as an example. I came in there, wanted to be a history major, and I was told early on in my freshman year that I shouldn’t be, that it takes too much time, too much reading, that I shouldn’t be a history major and play football.”

The latest controversy started when Harbaugh, who was hired from the University of San Diego in December, told the San Francisco Examiner in May that Michigan lowers its admissions standards for football players and advises them to take easy classes.

One of my roommates freshman year at UM finished his 1st semester with a 2.0 GPA. He transferred to MSU for the 2nd semester. He earned a 3.8 GPA there. I told him he must have busted his ass for that 3.8. He said that he worked harder for the 2.0 at UM and that there was no comparison between the schools. Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.

Because while UM has outstanding academics, General Studies isn't part of what make the academics outstanding. I'll freely admit in most situations, UM is the better academic school. But if you want to argue that the athletes are academic giants, that's a hill you probably die on.

sour grapes always will sound that way. If you don't bitch when others get an advantage, you don't have to defend it when you get one. Works out pretty good that way.

It blows my mind that people not only publicly associate themselves with Baylor North/Ped State West in public, but also make a username on another schools board to troll about their soon to be vacated conference title. I mean, wow.

Everyone at this point knows what their big two programs are and have been about for the last decade. Only ones who will never be convinced of reality and will cotinue to deny the mess are their fans.

They live an existence in the mental cloud of denial willing to let the school do a slow burn to keep the hero worship of two clowns going unabated.

And by so doing, keep making the school look even worse yet.

A little more hardware picked up by the ring leader of the basketball side of the syndicate isn't going to change any outsider's mind. That story is written for posterity absent a miracle conspiracy involving investigative reporters, victims, and witnesses.

I mean, I have MSU friends that I love to death; are cool and witty and intelligent.     But most of what I see online is BS behind a screen.     I actually have a good opinion of MSU grads that I know in person.    Its just hard to believe that some of them even passed 6th grade sometimes when they talk online and its always to bash those that do not view MSU as the holy land.       I think it used to be that way with ND also, but humility is a great thing in life.     I am not around many ND grads, but my best friends dad is a OSU grad and he is a great man.    Thing is that he does not view the others around him by what his team does.    True men and women view the world case by case and with logic.

I am proud to be true Maize and Blue!      Not because of any team that plays a game, but because of a standard that makes up what a person should be.    Are we perfect?   FUCK NO!   We all have our own issues and that makes us human.    But we are not dumb enough to ignore that same fact.

Michigan is great for what it is, and what it makes a man/woman in reflection to ones self.   I root, and root and root, but most from Michigan are aware of what is truly important in life.    They are taught to be leaders and not followers.

GOD BLESS those poor bastards that don't, and might not ever get that!

But when a team is that highly ranked, the disadvantage is that every teams plays their tail off and ends up having their best game of the season. Teams can't control their schedule or the effort of the other team. Bring on the Tourney and let the best team prevail!!!

So teams 2,3,4 and 5 only had to play the conference champ and number 1 team in the nation once and MSU had it easy? I like that thought process.
