SB Nation composite CFB rankings - Week 10

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on

SB Nation has a top 25 composite ranking that uses the AP Poll, Coaches Poll, S&P+, Massey, and witchcraft.

OSU, Clemson, Baylor, and LSU are the top 4 (same as last week).  MSU is at 8 (+3) and we've fallen one spot to #13.

A few weeks back, I thought PSU was going to be a solid chance of a win, maybe even a comfortable win. But Hackenberg is finding his footing (albeit against shit teams, but still), their defense is still very good, and it's on the road. At night. On senior day.

Will need to play our best game of the season to walk out of there with a W.

You are correct.

I'm hoping for a noon kick. The only time I prefer noon kicks are road games against teams with a pulse, which this one is. I have a feeling this will be a 3:30 kick, though.

I wouldn't mind either a 3:30 start or a noon kick off (though 11 central time is pretty early). I really couldn't imagine going to Happy Valley for a night game white out on senior day - that's about as shitty a set-up as I could imagine.

Hack is still really questionable for me, look at his numbers for the last 4 games:

Indiana: 21-39, 262 yds, 53.8%, 2 TD, 0 INT, 6.7 ypa

OSU: 7-13, 120 yds, 53.8%, 1 TD, 0 INT, 9.2 ypa

Maryland: 13-29, 315 yds, 44.8%, 3 TD, 0 INT, 10.9 ypa

Illinois: 21-29, 266 yds, 72.4%, 2 TD, 0 INT, 9.2 ypa

For the season, he's averaged 223 yds, 54.5% completion percentage, 13 TD, 2 INT, 7.6 ypa

He's definitely improved over the season but that Illinois game looks a lot like an abberation. He looks like a guy who can throw a good deep ball but isn't very accurate or consistent. I'm thinking the only real way he can hurt us is by throwing a few deep balls but given their offensive line issues, we shouldn't have too many issues with him. Then again, we thought Minnesota wouldn't get 100 yards passing against our defense and instead Leidner has his best game of the season so who knows?

The fact that he has a 6.5:1 TD:INT ratio makes me believe that his completion % is more indicative of the team around him rather than his ability to throw a pass accurately. Yes, you can always just throw the ball out of bounds every play and not throw an interception, but it's hard to put up 223 yds per game if that's your strategy.

I think our defense will give their offense fits, but our offensive is going to struggle against that D. Really going to have to pull out all the Harbaugh cards on offense and exploit their weaknesses to the max to put up some decent points.

he currently has thrown the 46th most passes among all NCAA QBs (FBS level).

Among those 46 quarterbacks, he has the third WORST completion percentage, but the fourth BEST interception percentage (interceptions thrown per pass attempt).

That matches what I've seen in actual games --- some very good and accurate throws (can't be intercepted) but also an unacceptably high amount of horrible throws (also can't be intercepted).

Penn state has a better defense and special teams than msu plus it's on the road I'd be suprised if we score over 17 points so my confidence level is tied to whether we can hold them under that. I'm thinking it's about 40%.

UM vs. PennState at night, at State Collge, will not be easy, BUT UM will spank that ass. You guys have far to much defense for Hack to handle. So if you can stop the running game it's over. I would say tho, another last minute thriller like a few years ago would be awesome.

In the Minny game we were playing against a team that was very pumped to play well for their departed coach and it was at night and on the road.

Additionally, we had to play with a very inexperienced QB for the last 20 minutes of that game. This is a game a Hoke team would have most likely lost. I forgot to mention all the lucky bounces Minn had in that game and there were a lot of them.

I think the close game last weekend has some people less confident, not evry game is going to be a 38-0 win.

Bullshit!  We should be #1.

Michigan overcame DIVINE INTERVENTION on behalf of fuckin Minnesota.  Never in the history of the universe has a sports team made so many ill advised shitty plays like the Gophers did and MADE THEM WORK.  Luck, being in the zone and having angels placing thrown balls into receiver hands was defeated by the devil in khakis.

Cosmic karma aligned to send Jerry Kill, a really great guy, out with a final victory.  The only human being who could stand against the forces of heaven is Jim Harbaugh.

JH used voodoo, majika and all kinds of kung fu to stop this divnity train.

We need to be #1 if there is any justice in this life.
