San Diego/Jacksonville places to watch UM games

Submitted by tasnyder01 on September 7th, 2022 at 6:18 PM

Just moved back to San Diego, and used to watch UM football (and all cbf) with my family. . .  But now, they're gone. Little brother moved to Jax, FL, so asking about there too. The question:

Anyone have suggestions for where to watch the games in both cities? I vaguely recall there being a sheet somewhere with lists of "where to watch" by city, so if anyone has a link, just post it before you neg me. Thanks!

I actually love that shit! I live 15 minutes from msu's campus and I go to bars downtown East Lansing to watch basketball road games all the time.  I attended most football games home/away so I very rarely watch football games on tv. I may be unable to go to Michigan @ Indiana October 8th this year so the backup plan is to watch Michigan Indiana at noon in East Lansing and then attend the msu osu game in full Michigan gear if it's at 4pn/8pm!

It's Garnet, not Garnett and it doesn't intersect with the PCH. I lived in Pacific beach for 20 years, that's where Garnet is.

On Garnet, not too far from the Crystal Pier just before Mission Blvd. there is Moondoggies, which is more of an OSU bar and right next door there used to be a bar called Pacific Beach bar & Grill which was way more of a U-M hangout. I just happened to be there today doing a walk through around the corner and it seems to be gone now. Many places are different now from when I lived there up till 10 years ago.

I just watch my games at home, on a recliner, comfortably.....call me crazy.

Since we're on the subject, do you kind of have to get to Ivey and Coney pretty early on a Saturday to get a decent spot to watch the games, does anyone know? Going to be in D.C. for Indiana and I've always wanted to check the place out.

Also, if anyone is a fan, what food do you recommend there--how is the Italian beef, for example? Finally, can my 18-year-old accompany me and drink Shirley Temples? What's the story with kids in bars in the District of Columbia?

The M bar in Pacific Beach in San Diego is Backyard Bar on Garnet Avenue.

I was in JX in 2015, so may have changed, but Blind Rabbit in Jax Beach is a great whisky bar where I watched a couple Super Bowls.

Lived in Jax for 6 years and am not familiar with any Michigan bars, this is SEC country and everyone roots for Florida, Georgia or Bama. Closest alumni association is in Tampa.

The UM Club of San Diego has two current game watch partners:

Tower13 https://www.tower13.com/ (North County Beach Bar in Cardiff)

Backyard  https://backyardpb.com/ (in Pacific Beach )

Hawaiian Luau at Backyard Saturday, Sept 10th Michigan vs. Hawaii at 5 pm PDT

They contribute to UM San Diego's scholarship fund based on the number of Michigan fans who attend.   There's also a Wolverine Wednesdays meetup each month at Alesmith:

Wolverine Wednesdays:  6pm local, the third Wednesday of every month

Alesmith Brewing Co. Tasting Room for great local brews, trivia and food trucks! https://alesmith.com/tasting-room

moving to SD next week. that said over the years I've gravitated towards watching games at home with Michigan friends instead of at bars. Might be some PTSD from watching The Horror at the SD Michigan bar in PB years ago. OSU bar was next door and those assholes started filing in late in our game to revel in our misery, good times.
