Too soon to say for sure, IMO. Cullen's a done deal, he's going public with what's been private for a while now on Tuesday. Grimes and Murphy are close; I think if they waited until NSD like they plan (as of now), they might miss the boat, but I also think UM is going to push to have them accelerate the process. Jefferson, who knows, he tells everyone what they want to hear. Shaw might happen, especially with FSU in flux (although we're not exactly stable, either). Big Tex, certainly sounds like he loves UM, and his coach is in our corner....now we gotta work on mom...

I forgot Furman. Rivals article today quoted him as saying he knows where he's going. Not sure whether to feel good or bad about that since he didn't make his return visit to UM this weekend, but is apparently still scheduling a return trip for early December before his decision on the 19th.

Shaw is a good player, but at some point, this receiver nonsense has to stop. If he is indeed a silent commit, then that gives us six WR commits. Something's got to give, whether it's a guy decommitting or someone switching to defense...

it's all about nothing. Sorry to throw some cold water on this post but I recall reading how much Seantrel Henderson loved his visit to UM and how he was going to take an official to UM. How'd that turn out? Not saying these kids will dis UM like Seantrel did but that kids always get excited while on a visit. WHen they get back home and things calm down, their views can change and quite quickly. Here's hoping that UM lands some above average D recruits to help build a defense that actually can defend.

I think it will speak volumes as to when Jefferson and others reach out to Tom. If Tom hears back from any as early as tonight, that bodes well.

Someone posted a diary a week or so ago with a review of the NCAA rules regarding scholarships and early enrolees. There were no changes made to the rules that would affect a players ability to enrole early and count against the previous years class as far as he found (and he claims he searched it well). There has been a lot of blabber about these so called "rule changes" but this is the first poster I saw actually look it up and see what the rules actually state. http://mgoblog.com/diaries/ncaa-scholarship-limit-review

I put that diary together and it includes everything that I could find. The only places that I could find any comments regarding early enrollees not counting to previous classes anymore was on Michigan message boards (mostly this one). I am firmly convinced that the rules have not changed. They certainly haven't changed as far as the NCAA is concerned. Maybe the Big Ten has a new rule but I can't find their bylaws posted on the web anywhere. Since the source of the suggestion that early enrollees can't count anymore is Sam Webb, maybe someone can call him tomorrow to confirm his source. I just listened to his Recruiting Roundup podcast and he suggests that including Witty we have a very good chance at signing seven. If he's right then either the rule hasn't changed or he assumes we will be pulling scholarship offers from current commits. I suspect that Coach Rod will politely notify as many fifth years as necessary that they will not be invited back as players but that they can be GAs. This will likely happen again next year as well so that we can maximize the potential of a small class.

Maybe. We still have 62 scholarship players returning next year, even with all the transfers. So if we want to bring in 28 new recruits, that means 5 of those scheduled to come back have to "get the boot". I'm still believing the class will be 25.

On Scout's site there are 77 scholarship players listed. Included in those 77 are Clemons, BooBoo, Evans, Feagin, Helmuth, O'Neill, and Wermers. Not listed is Kelvin Grady. That knocks it down to 71 take away the seniors and you are down under 60. It's also unlikely that all those eligible for fifth years will get them or will decide they have their degree and will move on with lives. Are you including walkons that have been granted scholarships? Because those are on a yearly basis and are not guaranteed to be renewed.
