Rashan Gary's mom has a leader ... But she won't say who

Submitted by BlueInDallas on
I was just watching the interview with Rashan and his mom during UA practices. His mom first told a story about how Harbaugh was so impressed with the M food court during Rashan's visit that he left Rashan and his mom to go explore it. Rashan's mom thought that was funny and said she really likes Harbaugh. She then stressed over and over how much academics mean to her. Finally, they were asked if they had a leader. Rashan said no but he said he is down to 5 schools. Rashan's mom said it's really down to two schools and admitted that she has a leader but can't say who. Given her stance on academics and her clear comfort level with Harbaugh, it's clear to me she wants Rashan to go to Michigan. Rashan may still be debating between Michigan and one other school. Listen to your mom Rashan!

Gary has also said in other interviews that his Mom being comfortable with the campus and staff is very important. Remember how she just walked around the Diag and asked random students what they thought of the school? I think she may have a little 'Harbaugh' quirkiness too!

Da'Shawn Hand has spoken with much praise about Alabama's Civil Engineering program. If the rumors were true about him possibly not being accepted into engineering at Michigan, then it appears he made a wise decision for himself. I know some us feel Da'Shawn just spurned us at the last moment for Alabama because they're the top dog right now. Though it's possible that we lost out on him for valid academic reasons. So like you said, one probably has nothing to do with the other.

Given the fact that almost every question he was asked..he punted it back to his mom... tells me that SHE has a huge influence on him. Which seems to bode well for us.
As always though with a kid his age it is probably going to boil down to where his buddies are (also feel like the NJ connections here help).
All we can do is hope! Hope he goes Blue!!

You are right. He deferred to her a lot. I too think she has much influence here. And there are many independent reasons why he would want to attend Michigan regardless of academics, such as the NJ pipeline into Michigan. This feels different than both Hand and McDowell.

Maybe Michigan has been proactive in noticing the future recruits talent level, and has been building a strong base the past few years to have us recieve our future B1G star in Rashan.  I would love to say that this has been written in an almighty book somewhere..

What does this all mean regarding rashan saying if he and his mom were on the same page he'd be committed already? Maybe he prefers somewhere else but his mom prefers Michigan? Just wondering. I think he's blue but thought I'd bring this up.

Yeah, but he argued in public with her about that.

When asked what he argues about with his Mom, Gary looked at his Mom and siad "You take this one, what do we argue about?"  He was not even sure.

Totally different dynamic.

Yea. I don't think Rashan's mom is the over imposing parent tho either. I think she respects her sons wishes here too. She stated she wants him to be comfortable and in a place where he can see himself going to class. She strikes me as the parent that trusts him to make that decision in the end. I don't think Malik's mom trusted him in that (responsibility/academic) regard.

This drama is getting a bit long in the tooth.  If Michigan does not get this kid, the world will be just fine.

Recruiting is weird but I am at the point where I would be surrpised if he's not blue. I bet he was a big part of getting kareem to decommit from OSU and go blue.

That would rule besides it sounding like the biggest bullshit I've read today. jk Kareem decommitted because of the filth. I know it's kind of rude to some but I don't care. He saw the light and now he is going to be a star! Hail!

Rashan is an impressive kid. He just sits there all quiet and respectful, kind of pushing the spotlight to his mother. His demeanor is not typical of a young man in high school, certainly not of a kid who has every school in the country after him. I was laughing watching him sit there wih all those gears in his head turning while his mother keeps hammering on education lol. That woman is no amateur at raising kids.

I bet Harbaugh was looking for the milk options in the food court. 2%...not solid enough. Whole? Still not full of the vitamins needed to ensure a day full of enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

I bet Harbaugh went out back to milk his own, infuse it with bacon and steak, add some shots of Baileys....now THAT is Milk!

i just saw a Detroit News article saying that Corley is announcing on Jan 9 and planning to enroll early on Jan 11.  He said there is no leader but lists UM, MSU, OSU, ND and Tenn.

that said, i believe UM's classes start on Jan 6.  MSU starts Jan 11.  so it seems pretty obvious he is going to be a sparty.  hopefully, Hill doesn't join him.

Crawford is also announcing on the 9th and I think he is also an early enrollee. I believed the same thing as you but it seems that you can still be an early enrollee and announce after the first date. Not saying that Corley is going to be blue, but just saying that his announcement date is not an indicator one way or the other.
