tOSU>MSU>>>>>>>ND

The Game still means more to me, but as others have said, the ND game means very little. We've dominated as of late, locked up the series, and it will have zero impact on our quest for a Big Ten title.

but just saying our record in the last decade against OSU doesn't tell the whole story. We were awfully close to winning the last 3. I actually had forgotten a little about 2013's game, I think I was successfully blocking out the pain of almost winning that one

It's OSU than some distance to MSU and ND, and I can't distinguish between those two. I get that people are sick of losing to State, as am I, but ultimately winning that game still just feels like beating someone you should beat. Beating OSU feels like winning a big rivalry game and there is no comparison to that excitement.

I think in any OTHER year, "to hell with ND" is right on. But the bullshit way they backed out by passing an envelope to DB JUST BEFORE kickoff of the game in SB where they had phantom whistles, jacked up PA system during our snap count, etc (the same treatment they gave Stanford 2 weeks later, but their coach publicly called them out on it) has really been a bug up my ass since 2012. If they win the LAST game (?), it's too much like the Empire defeating the Rebels. Joker killing Batman. The Grinch Stealing Xmas. Bernie Madoff keeping the money. Biff Tannen killing Marty McFly in the casino. And NO retribution . Zero. Nada. Not ever (but never say NEVER)... Yea, we've got the series record, but they're fricking battling us for all time win percentage, so that's kind of a wash. Even MSU has gotten relatively more important. We need to own the STATE before we can set sights on Buckeye as #1. It's gotten to the point where much of Buckeye nation (yeah, yeah... F#%^ 'em!) considers MSU more of a rival than us. And I HATE the idea of OSU not sincerely advocating about the supremacy of the intensity of the rivalry as some kind of charity to Michigan when the RECORD on the FIELD of play should make it clear WHO OSU's biggest threat is. But until we control MSU (again), the Big Game kinda feels like the Big Sham (a TEMPORARY state)! So, for 2014 ONLY, 1) ND 2) MSU 3) OSU 2015 1) OSU (if we have a better 2014 than MSU) 2) MSU 3) ND

No one in the Buckeye fan base believed Sparty is a bigger rival ... Not sure what types of "fans" you talk too but they sound like just Michigan haters, not true Ohio fans. Probably just a Sparty slappy at heart who wants to piss you off. And congrats because, based on your tirade, it worked. Both us and OSU, regardless of what our teams look like on paper, hate each other most and it will always be that way.

Ohio is always first and foremost. We could beat ND ten times and to me it's just another win against an okay team. We could beat state for an entire decade and all I would think is business as usual, despite this not being the case as of late.
But that game against ohio each and every year should take precedent over all others. We could lose two other games this season and if we beat ohio I will feel that this team really accomplished something.

That being said we need to right the ship against state, and to hell with ND. Have fun playing in the ACC. Always frightened to join the B1G because after a decade of Midwestern recruiting and subpar play on the field they would become just another team in Indiana who was once pretty good.

Though I ranked for 2014 ND>MSU>OSU, for me, YOUR point brings up the strongest argument for beating OSU first. A similar way of stating the original question: "Which VICTORY would make you feel best about losses to the two other teams?" I have to admit that I would probably feel better about beating OSU and losing to MSU+ND, than beating ND and losing to MSU+OSU (been there, done that), or beating MSU and losing to ND+OSU (good enough to beat the locals but not anywhere else). Hmmm.

I guess I'd say MSU 1st because they will be tougher to beat this year IMO. (MSU/OSU/ND) Hyde being gone from OSU and no Guiton to trot on when ole QB goes down will make them stumble. MSU needs to be knocked down a peg, cause it's our turn to win the B1G this year. This year is all or nothing for the coaching staff, and I think they will pass the test. Go Blue!!!

Strategery boys, MUST beat MSU so we at least have a chance at playing for Big 10 title with win at columbus.  Staee has Ohio at home following a bye...if they beat us and then Ohio, we have no chance, likely, to win the Big 10,even with a win at c-bus.

#1 Ohio. Far and away the most important game every year. #2 ND. This game is still more nationally recognized despite the recent lack of success between the two teams. #3 MSU. Even though it is a conference game, I just don't care about MSU as much as the other two.

When I was at U-M, we went 0-4 against ND, 2-2 against MSU and 3-1 against OSU.  It took a long time for me to rank OSU higher than ND as far as hatred goes.  The 12-year Cooper era didn't help me learn to friggin' hate the Buckeyes.  I hated MSU from the start (7-interception game; Desmond tripped on 2-pt conversion).

1a. Ohio 1b. State 3. Notre Dame But fuck them all really. Like Charles said before the '97 season "let's just win". I believe in this team, the talent is here, now they just have to showcase their ability. Is it football season yet?

I would like to beat Urban Meyer in Columbus, lights out, no questions asked.  It was sooo close last fall, but our broken-footed QB couldn't run and the 2pt play didn't go well.  That would send a message, nationally, that you better respect Michigan again.  And of course the priceless, "I just pissed in my own pants" look on Meyer's face at game end.

Michigan State is a close second.  Dantonio has had a nice run, as I've posted before, courtesy of us and our broken recruiting practices for a few years.  Sealing the deal in front of their sad fanbase is something I got to experience once.  Taking one of two-in-a-row road games would put them on notice its going to be an away game next year, boys.

Notre Dame, of course the highlight for me is seeing Brian Kelly go purple in the face.  I think their decision will backfire, to go knock off ACC creampuffs...I don't see that being good for their recruiting nor strength of schedule going forward.  It would be nice to put a footnote on that but not fully necessary.  The series is a nice memory in my brain going forward no matter what happens in the last game.

As much as I hate Dantonio (loathe / utterly despise, actually)...

Michigan State is a close second. Dantonio has had a nice run, as I've posted before, courtesy of us and our broken recruiting practices for a few years.

Pretty sure this isn't true. I used to look at it that way too. But I'm 99.9% sure that after three years of recruiting at a high level under Hoke we can't blame it on RR or that MSU picked up recruiting when we were down. Dantonio is just frustratingly good at developing players.

Doesn't make beating him and MSU any less important. The staff has to step up. But, peronsally, I'm done sleeping on MSU. I think the game last year convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Three years. THREE YEARS! FOR FUCKS SAKE, Hoke's been in charge of this program for THREE YEARS and we're still blaming RR and saying Dantonio caught us with our pants down? No. He's built something real in East Lansing. It pains me to admit it, but we're going to have to fight them tooth and nail as long as he's there. The days when MSU shits the bed (especially against us) are over. At least for a while.

Fuck I hate this post, this whole thread. Thanks for making me write this depressing shitpiece of a comment.

It would be nearly impossible to beat MSU and ND and lose 7 other games.  MSU is probably going to be the best team  on our schedule and ND is probably 3rd/4th. It would portray a team that has enough talent and moxie to go on the road and beat 2 teams who play well at home and one which (for now) has more proven talent  (something Hoke has yet to do at UM) but then come home and lose to a bunch of 8th place type Big 10 teams.

I think a more likely outcome is maybe stealing 1 of the 3 (best case scenario) but probably losing them all - I think ND is the most likely win IF it had been later in the year as they are the weakest of the 3 teams IMO... and then a lot of nailbiters.  I looked over Utah's results last year and they were very close to winning a lot of games agains top 20 teams ..and beat Stanford.  Maryland is tricky.  Minnesota improved a lot last year.  Rutgers on the road is Uconn on the road? Northwestern will be healthy.  PSU at home is no gimmee  Etc.  A lot of games that a vintage UM would win but make it too close. But this version of UM has no room for error.

ND- MSU-ohio simply because that's how they fall on the schedule. Want wins in all three would ducking hate losses in any of these games

1. MSU - conference game against little bro, who's owned us lately. Need to shift perception back to "normal"
2. OSU - conference game against most hated rival. Could spoil a playoff berth. Then again, they'll be a playoff contender so while it would suck to lose -- that's the national expectation of us
3. I would trade an ND loss for wins in the other two. Yeah, it's ND. Yeah it's our last one. Yeah, the chicken thing. But we've beat them so many times lately and a non-conference win means so much less to me.

In my opinion, when looking at the rivalry games let's learn to walk before we start running.  ND we seem to own and after this year it doesn't matter, so that game other than a number in the W/L column doesn't matter.  Eff Nd.

MSU is the priority this year then OSU.  I hate OSU fans, but have always hated OSU fans.  Even when losing they are dumbasses and I've lived with their dumbassery for the whole 34 years of my life.  Beating them is sweet no matter the time.  Though it was never really a certain thing about beating them.  But here's why I think MSU is the priority.

1. Their fans.  In the past it was easy to ignore the few of them that didn't know their place in the world.  It was behind Michigan and they could pickup the scrap bowl games we left them and pat them on their pointy little heads and move on.  Since they've gone on a tare and we've fallen flat on our faces the last 8 years, it's become obnoxiously apparent they need to be put back in their place.

2.  They won the B1G last year.  While obviously year to year is different (Look at Auburn) it would do us well to beat the current B1G champions.  I also think MSU will beat OSU, so just for reasons of beating the team that will beat OSU would make me feel better about the whole thing.

3.  I think it's paramount to Hoke's longevity to beat either MSU or OSU this year.  Not that that would be the straw that breaks the camels back, but I just think the natives are restless as it is.  He's not done well winning away games and I think we have a better chance in EL than we do in Columbus.

I would definitely rank Notre Dame #3. As mentioned before, we have owned them as of late and the game has no bearing on the B1G outcome.

#1 and #2 are a toss up for me.

If all of UM, Ohio and MSU have a loss during the regular season then I would say Ohio is #2 and MSU is #1 as we have to begin shifting the tide back in our favor, and what better way to do so than with a road victory.

However, if Ohio is unbeaten at the end of the season, I would definitely rank Ohio #1 and MSU #2. In no way do I trust Wisconsin or Nebraska to beat Ohio on a neutral field , and I'll be damned if I want to see those jackasses in the 1st playoff. It would kill us from a recruiting standpoint.

Regardless of the era, at least to me, beating OSU has typically been the crowning achievement in a season, or at least in those seasons where it has happened, so I would place that on top. Back in the day, I probably would have said ND was next because it used to seem like this game was much more a thing than even the game against MSU, but with the emergence of a stable and upward trending MSU over the last several years, I would rank the Spartans second here. Actually, I suppose you could make an argument that any game with conference implications are merely shades of the #1 ranking, but for emotional value, MSU sits at #2 for me given the OP's criteria.

As for Notre Dame, they'll be off the radar for the foreseeable future after this season and really, it makes so much sense actually that South Bend, while geographically in the heart of the Big Ten, should sever its remaining ties with that conference and yearn to be on the Atlantic seaboard. That, and as the game has no conference implications, losing it would still potentially leave us in an OK position.

For 2014...and most years.

OH>MSU>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PSU>ND

And this is coming from a guy who used to rank it OH>>>>>>>>ND>USC>>>>>>>>>MSU. ND chose to make themselves irrelevant to UM and has been mostly irrelevant to national observers for a long time (with one exceptional year). The national perspective still rests with OH and so does my historical and current hatred. It means a lot locally and I'm sick of the fans, coaches and players in EL, and Sparty has gained significant national respect recently. The division and PSU's coaching change means a punch in the mouth at the Big House will be important in 2014.
