Q: Anyone have any info on how Ricardo Miller's doing?

Submitted by BoBo24 on

Just wondering if anyone knows how he is doing in the program. He was pretty hyped coming out of HS, but he has since seemed to disappear from all discussions about WR's. With Stonum being out, any chance Miller sees some quality playing time this year?

he's doing poorly at WR and shouldn't be much help now that Stonum's out.

I think it's mostly because he's a TE, though, where he's supposedly developing quite nicely.

I believe Ricardo was moved to TE, and a lot of his recruiting hype was before he was actually ranked.  We thought he would be a high 4* and possibly even 5*, but turned out to be a pretty generic 3* if I recall correctly.

He was actually a 4* on both Scout and ESPN (albeit not a very high 4*) and he was a 5.7, on Rivals which is the highest of their 3* range (5.5-5.7), so he was still a pretty decent prospect coming out of HS according to the recruiting sights, although admittedly not as high as we had initially hoped/thought.

He did not get much bigger.   I think he will be in the mold of a slot-TE-WR (much like Funchess is expected to be); also heard he may be a slot-TE / half-back (like Aaron Shea back in the day)

He was never going to wow you with his vertical speed, but he was targeted as a WR coming out of HS.

On the roster it says he is 6-4 215lbs, coming out of HS he was only 6-2 205 so he has gotten bigger.

I think the coaches want to use him as an H-back, but I heard that blocking is something he is really going to need to improve if he wants to see the field.

Jackson played in one game last year (OSU) after Stonum and Hemingway were both out with injuries. (now that I think of it, our team was pretty depleted going into OSU). He's not particularily fast, but he has the prototypical NFL receiver body type. Maybe some conditioning and leg strength work can improve his speed? He seems to be staying at wide receiver in those conditions, probably more as a possession receiver.

If he's really up to 240 lbs than I am pretty excited about his potential as a redzone option and TE once Koger is gone.

I mean, if he kept anywhere near the athleticism he had as a 210 lb WR, he could be a good weapon for us at 6'4.

Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but thats what Fall camp is for right?

He's excited camp is finally here.  Not that he doesn't love summer, don't get him wrong, but it's nice to be getting back to football.

Other than that, not much is new.  Not looking forward to classes starting back up, but who is.  Spends some time playing video games, talking to friends.  He calls home once or twice a week.

(Completely made all that up.)

Yes, he's eating enough and he wishes you'd stop worrying about him.  Although he did rip a pair of those jeans you got him at Costco that he wore all the time, so if you see any next time you're there he would love another pair.

For girls: nobody special yet, but he's young so he's not too worried about it.  He's just going to enjoy college and let whatever happens happen.

He didnt blow up in a bad way...just kind of grew into his body more or less andcombined with his slower than us recruitnik's want 40 time that forced this move but all the press @ TE has been good at least.

He seems like a great kid. I remember how hard he sold Michigan to other recruits when he was just a junior and senior in high school.  Moved his whole family to Ann Arbor. It would be great to see him get some playing time.

We should see a decent amount of Ricardo this fall. Borges loves using the TE and we don't have a ton of them on the roster, plus it sounds like Barnett is a no go this fall. That leaves Koger, Moore, Watson and Miller plus walk-ons. Since there will be some 2-TE sets, if Miller doesn't see the field it's not a good sign.

He had surgery on (I believe) his knee in December and says he's at about 80% right now. He's packed on the pounds since then and is still a true frown so many believe he will redshirt. If he plays, it won't be until late in the season.

You know today is the FIRST day of practice, right?  And IIRC, it doesn't even start for another hour.  So... I'm gonna go with "dear crap, hold your horses, we'll find out soon enough."

He's doing well at Tight End. Coach Ferrigno really likes his upside and pass-catching, he just needs to work on blocking and bulking up. He's more of a U-Back (H-Back/Split out) but seems to be enjoying it.
