OT: Thrillist Map of the State of Michigan

Not being a Michigander, I found this map entertaining (except for the Insufferable Elitists part for Ann Arbor). There is a lot of truth that I see here from my travels to the Wolverine State. Love the Burning Couch in East Landfill.

I doubt many Detroit residents are spending much time up in Traverse.

Grosse Pointers, Bloomfield Hillers, B'Hamers, sure, but they ain't Detroiters.

If we go off of the most generous (i.e., expansive*) definition of "metro Detroit," Grosse Pointe (GPYC and all) is absolutely included.

*[I've seen a few maps that define the northern limit of metro Detroit as 23 mile road (i.e., inclusive of Mount Clemens/New Baltimore]

I grew up in Grosse Pointe and when I got to U-M in ‘71 it would make me laugh to hear other Grosse Pointers say they were from “Detroit” when the vast majority of them wouldn’t set foot in the city unless they were going to a Tigers or Lions or Red Wings game.

I started at Michigan in 79 from grosse pointe. The first few weeks I said I was from gp.  Stopped that after plenty of stereotyping happened.  I came to understand why gpers said they were from Detroit. For much the same reason I say I’m from outside Detroit now.

Chicagoans go to the Union Pier/New Buffalo area. Only 90 minute drive from Chicago. Obligatory stop at the outlet mall in Michigan City, Indiana on the way back to buy cheap Nike's and vaguely designer-y clothing.

No.

Muhammad Ali became a very visible and active part of the community in his numerous years as a Berrien Center resident.  He and I had conversations on several occasions, from just joking around to discussing little league baseball to talking about his boxing.

Ali was much more a gentleman than those I refer to as 'FIPs' (which was a sizable percentage of the summertime invasive Illinois crowd).

And to my knowledge, Ali never was an Illinois resident.
