OT: So Jared Leto's Joker is uhh.... edgy?

Submitted by OccaM on

I've learned not to pre-judge actors' takes on beloved characters after Ledger's Joker, but Leto just looks like he's trying a bit too hard... I mean the forehead tattoo? Is that necessary?

That's the thoughtful, fact-based comments that makes these board topics so interesting.

I never understood the Leto hate.  I didn't like Jordan Catalano as a character, but otherwise I think he's been a pretty competent actor in most roles.  I really like his character in Lord of War, for example.  And I'm not fan of 30 Seconds to Mars, but based on movie star-based rock band standards, it isn't too bad.

This also looks like it's trying much too hard (and crikey, did the Joker just forget all about leg day?), but even the goth kids in high school would laugh at someone tattooing "Damaged" across their forehead. Apparently Leto's never heard the writing maxim - which I always thought applied to many other art forms - that you must "Show, Never Tell."

The only film I've seen that he's been in is Requiem for a Dream. Aronofsky wrote the characters in that movie as such shallow, whiny assholes.

Aw thanks douche.

I think most people are willing to give Leto a shot unlike Ledger when it was first announced. That was the point of the remark.

And yeah it does look like he's trying too hard in the photo. Doesn't mean I think he's gonna flop.

The new Batman movie looks terrible. The copyright laws really need to be changed so stuidos aren't "forced" to churn out the same crap again and again to hold onto the film rights.
