OT: OSU First Spring Practice
Reports of viewers salivating over all the infused talent in CBus during their first Spring Practice. As if on field talent has been their problem the last 3 years.
Video links included.
First impressions from Ohio State football’s first spring practice (msn.com)
I agree that QB looks like it could undermine the entire plan for the Bucks. I am really hoping McCord plays well, and the new QB, whoever he may be, is middling at best. It would be awesome to watch the recriminations if fans concluded that Day “ran off” the key, missing component for their team.
Legend has it that their offense is still trying to score their first TD against Missouri.
Remember how good we were at practice under Hoke? We were like the National Practice Champions back-to-back years as I recall.
They look Charmin soft, just like their coach
Don't forget - they've improved a LOT. They're not "soft" - they're "ultra soft".
not clicking that link ….
but fuck an ohio state
It’ll be nice for the home fans to see their team not lose
how are their CBs in run support? lol
I'm sure they are convinced after their first practice that the NC is in the bag for them.
OSU gonna be very good…. Again…. There is a reason fans storm the field when we beat those guys. Biakabatuka, Woodson, Jamie Morris, Jim Harbaugh, Aidan Hutchinson; Hassan Haskins,Rod Moore, Mikey Sainristil, Donovan Edwards, JJ McCarthy are among the legends who are legendary because of what they did against the Buckeyes
There is no way those clowns are keeping 5 QBs. Guys that came for the bag - and are there any that didn't? - will split as soon as a starter is picked.
When you have 5 QBs, you don't have any QBs.
Sadly for them, McCord was the best of the bunch, but they chased him away because he fell just short against Michigan with 20 seconds left. They may have conceivably been the second best team in the country, but they blew it all up on a freak out.
OSU has just 3 regulation wins against Michigan since 2015. Embarrassing. Do they make little gold pants for offseason recruiting wins?
Meanwhile, Michigan just won the National Championship.
Listen, it's undeniable that the OSU football team is stacked with talent. Plus, they went out and picked up a few players at key positions in the portal.
They probably should be considered to be the favorite to win the Big Ten next year.
It's been great for Michigan to be the dominant team the last three years...but let's not pretend that OSU is all of a sudden a doormat or that they don't have the talent to win the Big Ten and/or get to the Playoff.
Who’s pretending that?
The phrase - "I couldn't care less" applies here. I'll begin thinking about The Game on November 30th some time in October.
Until then - Go Blue!
I scrolled through Twitter earlier and have like a dozen buckeye sites posting pictures of guys taking handoffs and other ones standing around with the caption like "this guy is a beast!" Or "Look at this guy throw the ball to this other guy"
I know I don't have to traffic in it but I genuinely don't understand how that content is interesting to anyone. There is nothing to glean from a practice in March.
In summary i just find this particular football obsession strange
They have 5 QBs, and they all think they should start. Are they all going to get enough reps? How many will leave after the spring game, having cashed the NIL check and realizing they are not starting?
There's zero chance all those guys stick around.
Quinn Ewers sends his regards.
I mean, that's one of the best offenses money can buy in college at least at the skill positions. But it remains to be seen if that line can hold up, if Howard is an effective passer, and if the game plans against the good teams on the schedule work.
They're probably the favorite to win the title along with Georgia but that's a ton of pressure for a team that hasn't handled it well for a while. It'll be interesting to see how it goes.
Rod Moore says, "Hi"!
Logged in to downvote cuz who cares what they do
FWIW, I am genuinely curious how these buckeyes think down here. Everyone I’ve asked, most have said day needs to win it all, not just the UM game to be in good graces. Most know that given the amount of talent it’s a put up or shut up stance. So, if UM gets the upset you could see Columbus burn to the ground. To which, I would look forward to.
Some interesting information came to my attention with a quick Internet search.
Since 1970 - the Buckeyes have won two (2) national championships. During that same timeframe - Michigan has also won two (2) national championships.
Their perceived superiority and fielding the best team money can buy - really reflects who they are.
That locker room will be interesting to see in the fall.
The locker room dynamic should be interesting. They all came there for the bag, but they have not been a mentally tough team for a while. If they run into any adversity, it will be interesting to see if they have the fortitude to overcome it. Mercenaries are not there because of their love of the team.
IMO, the Buckeyes have three (3) games of particular note in the '24 season. They will travel to Eugene to face the Ducks as well as State College for PSU. The conference season finale, as we know is hosting Michigan in Columbus.
An early indicator may be their trip to Eugene.
As for their roster and mercenary approach - it's going to be interesting to see it evolve.
Also Kelly is such a downgrade from BoB. BoB is at least a retread NFL coordinator. Nobody is knocking on Kelly's door, the pros had one look and that was enough. I would have been more worried about some upstart unknown. Kelly has 10 years of mid tape, and notice that he brought his son along on Ohio's dime too. If nothing else BoB would have installed a prostyle power playaction offense. We don't need Ohio players practicing against that every day. Nope. You keep practicing pass blocking and route trees.

run the triple option 60 times. All that talent and they won't know how to use it. They will be crying in frustration
We may lose a couple of games this year but I think our team will be solid and may have a chance to make the playoffs once again. 12-team format makes the road a bit easier
way, way, way easier. we have a brutal schedule and have lost 10-18 legit NFL players, but 12 teams is exponentially more likely to lead to a CFB playoff bid.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
They've had all the talent in the world but their culture is shit and that hasn't changed one bit.
Regarding Team Talent - I have a couple of questions.
Since 2015 (as far back as I can review 247's Team Talent Composite's date) - what was the "lowest" ranked OSU team in terms of overall talent - and, in what year did that "drop off" in talent occur?
The answer: in 2016 the OSU team talent was ranked 5th.
In the other eight years from 2015 through 2023 - the Buckeyes talent level was third or better.
Talent isn't the issue in Columbus.
Let the penguin hopping begin.
Planned to be a long practice...an ohio grad assisitant was seen beforehand at walmart buying up all the coolers he could find to provide bathroom facilities.
Fuck ohio. That is all.
