I’d be interested in this too. Getting home around midnight EST

I won’t be able to catch the game and want to watch without knowing the outcome on Sunday. What will be the best way? NBC sports customer support said they are not offering replays on their apps.

11/28/2017 - 3:25pm OK, but Hoke's teams hung 40+

OK, but Hoke's teams hung 40+ points against OSU twice, and were the world's most-agreed-upon 2 point conversion away from .500.

10/13/2017 - 3:25pm No, a team that joined the

No, a team that joined the conference in 1993 isn't nearly on this level. Again, you're couching everything in conditionals and what-ifs. "Clearly appeared to have the better team" does not matter as much as the Just Wait crew would like. This is the fourth time Harbaugh has lost to a rival in five games. That needs to sting more. It's a results-based charting service.

10/13/2017 - 11:02am Yes, by definition, he is.

In January 2015, if we had said "would you say going 1-4 against MSU & OSU would be defined as underperforming," we would have first laughed uproariously at the possibility, and then said of course, absolutely, that is underperforming. Definitively underperforming. How would you measure underperforming, we'd ask? A really shitty record against rivals would be at the top of the Family Feud boards.

Yes, we should have won two of those. No, we did not. Those don't count the same. MSU fans say "we're 8-2 over the last decade" and we adjust our monocles and say "well, you idiots, you absolute tools, Mo Hurst is among the top tackles in the country according to PFF and we have moderate run blocking improvement! Just you wait!"

Sure, let's keep waiting while rivalry games - which NECESSARILY matter more and BY DEFINITION disproportionately define success vs struggle - pile up the Ls. Keep waiting! We'll throw out of the Pepcat formation soon!

10/09/2017 - 12:25pm It is not “dirt stupid” to be

It is not “dirt stupid” to be disproportionately upset that we can’t get it up for rivalries. Does OSU only worship Tressel because he won a MNC in 2002?

MSU bested the spread by double digits in their last 3 games vs Michigan, but let’s keep waiting patiently. We’re 4-17 vs. MSU & OSU since this year’s recruits started playing competitive football, so 5-16 wouldn’t have been much different, guys. Underperforming and getting outcoached in rivalries is in the DNA of the program now, but just hang on, guys. I’m sure we’ll pass out of the Pepcat formation soon.

"Houston's better" because they scored. Notre Dame did not. It was factually correct! That was such a great game.

I'll be there, man. I graduated in 2006 and played with the alumni band almost each year since. Last year was the first time since 1992 I wasn't at Homecoming and it killed me. I wanna go back, I gotta go back!

I love old MMB recordings. A few years ago, I worked with an old MMB alumnus from 1950-1952, compiling his stills, recordings, and personal recorded notes into a video slide show.

The first few minutes of the video, shots from the Dartmouth game, are online here:

Note in the recordings how Varsity nearly doubles in tempo over the course of a decade. In the 50s it was like a secondary, weaponized fight song. So great.

Some of his stills are available here: https://www.facebook.com/jbrons/media_set?set=a.525460865073.2215730.22…

Somewhere on a FireWire hard drive I have the finished slideshow...

01/08/2015 - 11:58am As badly as I wanted Hoke

As badly as I wanted Hoke gone, I'll always tip my cap to how his teams played vs. OSU. 40 points twice, with never more than a 1 point difference at halftime, and last year's tremendous going-for-2 call.

12/30/2014 - 11:32am Johnny's and Brian's forays

Johnny's and Brian's forays into Feelingsball in 2005 changed the way I viewed sports, felt about sports, and felt AT sports (to paraphrase Stephen Colbert). It's crazy that it's been a full decade and we're introducing new generations of MGoFans to RBUAS.

Read up on the classics. This was after the same game as Brian's The New Math post.

--

Last year I was in Connecticut for a wedding and jokingly tweeted that I hoped I'd run into Johnny so I could buy him a beer to thank him. He enthusiastically replied and was totally up for it. We couldn't find time to make it work but I, as a passionate consumer of feelingsball almost as an essential ingredient in fandom these days, owe him at least as much.

I mean, goddamn

12/29/2014 - 12:21pm Brian's subtle but important

Brian's subtle but important wording in this post notes that Stanford beating USC in 2007 was indeed the greatest upset in history. It's technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

Does this post mark a shift in no longer referring to Spencer as Orson? I'd hoped you'd hang on to that and it'd just be a charmingly dated term, like "davenport" or "icebox" or "billfold."

08/27/2014 - 3:15pm From Wikipedia on Dr.

From Wikipedia on Dr. Revelli, which reads like a collection of Bill Brasky stories:

"In the 1930s, General Motors divisions, Buick and Chevrolet, paid for the band to travel to away games. In a show of appreciation, Revelli had the band line up in a “Buck – I” formation at the 1938 Ohio State game. Then, while playing Buick’s theme song, the letter "I" moved between the "u" and the "c" in "Buck" spelling out "Buick." The next morning, athletic director Fielding H. Yost reportedly called Revelli at his home at 2:00 a.m. and said: "Young man, never do that again!” Yost did not approve of the injection of commercial advertising onto the college football field."

I'd love to take you up on this, but with two family weddings in September and spending Christmas in MI too, I just can't manage another flight this year. I'll be at the Utah game though!

08/06/2014 - 11:02am My first memories of anything

My first memories of anything game-related were in 1994. Seth Smith's 100 yard KO return in 1994 was RIGHT. AT. ME. and I was out of breath from yelling when he finally reached the end zone. Also, I painted my face for this game, but accidentally used poster paint. My face was frozen in place with a maize and blue crust and it hurt to open my mouth.

The first game I actually attended was Homecoming, 1992. Michigan beat Minnesota 63-13. I remember accompanying my aunt in the alumni band on her march to the stadium more than anything about the game.

I've been at every Homecoming since, including several in the alumni band now. I moved to Seattle this spring and it's killing me to know that I'll miss it this year for the first time in 23 years.

Chris Farah is a Michigan fan and an mgoblog reader. If you haven't seen "Answer This!", the movie he and his brother Mike produced with actor/professor Ralph Williams, definitely check it out. If you've been a longtime mgoblog fan you'll be rewarded with an obvious and appropriate mgoreference in the soundtrack.

11/01/2013 - 10:53am I'll be there, man.

I'll be there for the 6th straight time (first 2 were with the MMB). We tailgate in the Farm Lane lot and take the busses up to the stadium, and we've never had an issue. Maybe because the lot is far enough away that the tailgaters are a little less intense. Waiting right outside the stadium in line for the bus sucks, but it's been fine. If you get to the stadium about an hour early, go to the north entrance to watch the MMB parade in.

"MMB Members and Staff:

We just received an email from AD David Brandon saying that Athletics has now decided that, with the help of some donors, they will be taking us to Dallas for the Cowboy Classic game vs. Alabama.

There are many details yet to be worked out.  For example, we do not yet know exactly how many students and staff will go, and we don't know for sure when we'll be leaving or returning.  Please be patient as we sort these issues out.  We will let you know when we know.

I'm excited that the MMB will be there to support our team for this historic event!

Go Blue!
