OT-Lions open the Season against the Chiefs on TNF
Title says it all, going to be a good one!
Arguably the toughest environment with the Chiefs celebrating their Superbowl victory at home. Would be nice to "unveil" Jamo there....but the Lions were humming last year even without him.
Tall task, but can/will we win this game?
The Lions also host the Packers on Thanksgiving
Less worried about this one. will be a fun one I bet.
Well... I was hoping that the Lions could open their season with a victory, but that ain't happening now.
This is a evidence that there is way too much undeserved Lions hype.
7 - 10 season loading...
Lions went 8-2 in their last 10, including a last second loss to the Bills on Thanksgiving. They were arguably the hottest team in the second half of the season. Goff threw 15 tds and 0 ints in his last 9 games.
Plenty of reason to be optimistic.
There are nearly always reasons to be optimistic. But I've been a Lions fan for 40 years, I know how to temper expectations.
The first game being on TV gives me a reason to delay buying NFL Sunday ticket until after that game at least.
Also, they upgraded a ton on both sides of the ball and get Walker (safety) back from injury IIRC which is huge for the defense.
Just wish they drafted a corner in the first round.
We already picked 3 likely starters in FA. Moseley, Sutton, and Gardner-Johnson who co-led the league in picks last season. Walker is back healthy and add in Branch, and I'm starting to be cautiously optimistic about the secondary.
Early line is KC -7
We'll see how this all goes ---- but I get some "2008 Cleveland Browns" vibes here.
After years of being irrelevant (in 7 of their 8 seasons since the franchise revival, they finished with 7 or less wins), the 2007 Browns went 8-3 to end the season and just missed the playoffs at 10-6 overall. In the summer of 2008 basically EVERYBODY was picking them as the NFL's new hot team. Romeo Crennel was a rising coach, and Big Ben and that team down in Pittsburgh? - well, their days as an AFC contender that ruled the North, those days were over.
The NFL went ahead and scheduled them for high-profile games all over the place. They wound up 4-12.
There is always one fools gold team every year. The Falcons were that team for several years. It could be the Lions. Hell, given their history, it's probably the Lions. Doesn't mean I'm not going to watch if I can.
Stop being a hater.
What does some pathetic Browns team paired with a pathetic story from 2 decades ago have to do with Detroit?
Nothing.
It wouldn't be a very good argument, there was another team that finished the season winning 10 straight.
All true- with a last place schedule. There is a reason a team or two in the NFL goes from last to playoff contention every year.
The NFL doesn't schedule one of their top marquee games of the year just to be destined for an uncompetitive game. They could've choose the Eagles or Bengals. With that KC is a very tough place to be a visiting team.
Even with a loss, Lions as a Team will see the raising of a SB banner. Campbell will likely use that as a motivational teaching moment.
Good opportunity. Also, tough opportunity.
Can’t think of worse possible way to open the year. At Arrowhead on Thursday night.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Philadelphia at night doesn't sound to fun either
Philly worries me much more; very physically powerful, KC the stars may align.
To be fair the Lions gave Philly all they could handle last year.
Yep TNixon - saw this and went:
Thanks Roger. /s
I'll take it, long time coming that Lion's getting some national TV exposure.
There's plenty more coming...this year.
*EDIT: Looks like we're up to four National games. 3 on Thursday's and a MNF game @ home against the Raiders. Full schedule released @ 8PM.
LFG!!! 😃
I had the same negative feeling as some of y'all, but they get to measure themselves against the best right out the gate. And since no one expects them to win, the narrative will be about how far they've come under Holmes and MCDC. This is a great opportunity.
Respect for the lions is on the rise, I guess. They have one of the easiest set of non-NFC North games at home:
Atlanta, Carolina, Denver, Las Vegas, Seattle
But did they ever get the shaft on their road games:
Baltimore, Dallas, Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans, Tampa Bay
Maybe Tampa Bay and New Orleans are easier games, but not as easy as the Pu-Pu Platter of home games, while they get screwed by the others. Isn't that something like 5 of 6 (not counting Minnesota and the rest of the NFC North) playoff teams on the road?
I hope that Seattle game gets prime time attention. I want them to get some revenge on the Seahawks in front of a national audience.
Lions will spot the chargers a 3 TD lead and still win.
I think this will be a great focuser for the team, a great way to start the year win or lose. A nice barometer to how prepared the team is to start the season.
Easy dub for the Lions.
Shock the world
It’s going to be awesome beating them the first game and the last game of the year!
I like the cut of your jib.
Tough way to start the season, but if the Lions want to prove that they’re for real and all the “wait till next year” talk is finally talking about THIS YEAR, then this is the best possible opportunity they could ask for.
Still, playing Mahomes in Arrowhead? Yeeee-ikes.
Honestly, unveiling Jahmyr is going to be pretty dang exciting too, a great start to his OROY campaign 😀
If we have to play them anyway, week 1 on Thursday night is probably the best time. Maybe their focus is just a little bit off with all the festivities and stuff. Maybe a little championship hangover too. It seems to me KC is ripe for the picking.
This
Breaking in new WR corps. Breaking in new OT. Festivus. etc
Weird that this scenario had been circulating as a rumor for awhile. Almost like it was leaked to the media. Bottom line - should be a really good game. My Chiefs really got lucky against the Lions a couple years ago at Ford field. And Goff kind of torched our secondary with the Rams down in Mexico City.
KC BBQ ADVICE:
Brian is wrong - DEAD wrong KC BBQ > Texas/Memphis/NC
1. Jack Stack's for The CROWN PRIME: (Rack of rings, beans, slaw, au-gratin)
2. SLAPS for Burnt Ends
3. Q39 for the Burnt End Burger
4. LC's for Baked Beans
5. Rosedale's for Spare Ribs
6. Oklahoma Joes (Mission location only) for Z-Man Sandwich and Fries
7. Meat Mitch - Brisket
8. Arthur Bryant's for Beef (or Turkey) Sandwich
9. GATES BBQ (Avoid State Line location)
10. The Rub BBQ for Burnt Ends
Back in my pork eating days, I might be with you. But now my brisket and beef rib lovin' self is going to the grave with Texas #1 in my heart.
Just reading that raised my cholesterol 😆
KC has the best all around bbq, imho, and I live in Texas, but Texas beef ribs are in a league of their own. It just isn't even fair.
If the title say it all, why did you add a bunch of information?????
Super Bowl LXVIII Champions vs. Super Bowl LXVII Champions. What a game!
Seeing a lot of complaining on twitter about the lions getting put in this game. Was looking for an expected wins model for 2022 to see how good the lions were absent randomness - like I have heard the vikings did way better record wise than a model would predict last year. Does anyone know where to find one?
This is such an exciting way to start a highly anticipated turnaround season. I know a Campbell led squad doesn't need added motivation, but having this matchup in their minds all offseason should really help them focus and push themselves to be ready. You can't assume it will be easy to get everyone on the same page with all of the new players they've brought in, but it's pretty much the same coaching staff and I'm confident they'll have them fired up and ready to face this task. Problem is Reid and Mahomes with be even more prepared. This could be a really fun game though with both teams running unique offenses and both coaches unafraid to throw in a few trick plays.
Yeah it's too bad Jamo won't be unveiled. They could really use him in this matchup. I hope he won some money. He was probably betting on Bama Baseball
Hope springs eternal.
