Opening Football Game Ticket Giveaway

Submitted by joegeo on August 16th, 2019 at 11:02 PM

What: Four 40 yard line tickets to the Middle Tennessee game on 8/31. I'll give away two pairs of tickets.

Story: These season tickets have been in my family since the 1920s when my grandfather attended Michigan. My Dad, also a Michigan alumnus, has attended games since the 1950s. I have gone to games since 1990, but now I live in New York and generally only get out to a single game each year. He is now, unfortunately, living with Alzheimers and can no longer attend games. To celebrate my father and fathers in general, I've decided to donate or gift most of my tickets for the coming years on his behalf. The MGoBlog community will be the recipient of tickets to one of the games each year.

Requirements and Rules:
1) You attend the game with your father OR you are a father and attend with your son or daughter.
2) If you win, you make a donation to NAMI: The National Alliance on Mental Illness, a cause important to my father and our family. Donate whatever you feel comfortable with.
3) Enter by replying on this thread. Deadline is midnight at the end of Monday, August 19th.
4) One entry per person.
5) I'll use a random number generator to pick two winners of two tickets each and announce those winners in a new thread at noon on Tuesday, August 20th.
6) Winners will have 24 hours to acknowledge their win and claim their prize.

Mods were able to put me in touch via email with the winners. Would be much appreciated if they could do the same this year! At that point, I can transfer tickets online or send the physical tickets or both.

This is really awesome man. I'd sign up but I'm already taking my dad to the game. I'm flying in from California to surprise him and celebrate his retirement. Again, kudos and good luck to all the fathers and sons out there!

This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen on here. Wish I could have gone to see any game with my dad, but he has been gone for a long time now. However I do love getting the opportunity to take my kid to any U of M games we can possibly get to whether its hoops, baseball, football, etc.

I am actually going to take you up on this offer. Please put me in the drawing. I have my entire family, friends, and U.S. Navy guests coming to this night game. Donation to a very good cause guaranteed. Thank you for the opportunity.

I won't be entering the drawing (can't make the game, and the tickets should go to actual UM fans anyway) but I did make a small donation. I just want to tip my virtual cap because this is a really cool idea and it's for a really great cause. Mental illness of any kind is something that can always use more support and awareness.

I wish I had looked here earlier.  Just bought two tickets tonight to take my son to his first ever game.  Would have been great to instead give that money to a great cause.  Great idea with the donation.

I'm going to pass on the tickets but make a donation (I have my season tickets already and prefer someone else wins who would otherwise not be able to go, especially being that it will be either with their dad or child)

Great idea, OP, and I'm more than happy to help with a contribution.  Alzheimer's is an awful disease (I lost a favorite aunt to it several years ago).  So sorry about your dad but he obviously raised you well.

I suppose this is being negged due to the sarcastic nature of the comment. However I was wondering if the OP was intentionally excluding women who would take their child, or if that was just an oversight. For a woman to be eligible, she has to go with her dad (which obviously may be impossible in some cases) whereas a man could still be eligible if he wants to instead take a son or daughter. I understand the OP wanting to honor specifically his father, but given that the offer is extended to those with daughters (which is nice), I thought maybe the gesture was more about the special nature of a parent-child relationship and building memories through Michigan football.

I would enter but I don't want my identity given away if I were to win. Awesome gesture ! And a good charity cause !

joegeo,

All-around, this is very cool and generous of you.  I would love to take my 81 y/o father to his first night game at the Big House.  What an honor it would be to use your seats now knowing the background of your family!  Excellent cause choice as well.  Cheers and Go Blue!

Please add me to the drawing! Pops is due for surgery soon and has been low in spirit. I'd love to brighten his day.

Please put me in the drawing.  I would attend with my son, and I’ll be making a donation either way.

Put me in. My son (Sr. in HS), wife and I will be coming down to see my girls (Albion and EMU) over that weekend from the UP. He toured the Big House and would be thrilled to watch a game. Great cause that hits home for us. Thank you so much for the offer.

I would love to win these tickets. My son just turned 9 in June and it would be an awesome first game for him to attend at The Big House. Very awesome of you to do this.

I just had my first son 7 months ago and have been looking forward to taking him to his first game at the Big House.  He has headphones for the noise.  We went to the soccer match last weekend and the ticket takers were saying every person, even infants, need a ticket which I find ridiculous but that appears to be the policy.

Thanks, Joe, for the opportunity. Wish I better met the criteria, but my 85-year-old father with four degrees from MSU is starting to suffer from Alzheimers also and would be more confused than he would enjoy (plus he'd probably fall asleep at least once or twice), and my children are too far out of state to make the trip home. But I want to commend you for sharing with the community. My first visit to the Big House was due to a gift (from my future father-in-law), and it helped turn me into a lifelong Michigan fan, despite my family background. Go Blue!

I guess I'll throw my name in.  My dad's been by my side for about 90% of the games I've attended at the big house.

Best wishes to your family.  Seeing my grandmother go through Alzheimers was no picnic.
