If Mazi was allowed to be innocent until proven guilty the same is afforded to them as well, as it should be. Just because they are guys with whom we have bad blood can't change that.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have not read the article so I don't know what happened but obviously no one will be convicted off of a news story.

Normally I'm a fan of DD's, but in this instance...they just hang a little too low for my liking.

Kidding aside, innocent until proven guilty, and if guilty, I really hope this kid can get his **** straight. These kids have too many opportunities available to ruin with poor choices.

Man. That just sucks. Hate to see young men do dumb stuff and hate to see guns not respected.

Hope he gets on the right track and receives a punishment appropriate for the issue that allows him to learn but not ruin his life, especially in light of what Mazi Smith was given.

"especially in light of what Mazi was given" ... ??

Maybe I didn't follow it that closely, but wasn't Mazi essentially doing what was legal, but for his permit still being in-process?

This guy is charged with a felony and a misdemeanor, with the misdemeanor being related to alcohol or drugs while in possession of the firearm.

I'm a strong 2A supporter ... active hunter and recreational shooter.  And there is no place for mixing "under the influence" with firearms.

That's not remotely close to Mazi's situation.

I think we’re doing this wrong.   Instead of pointing out to the state slappies that the situation with Mazi & this dude aren’t the same we should agree with them that yes, they’re exactly alike and yes, everyone likes us MUCH better hence Michigan players getting preferential treatment in the press & legal system.

We should lean into their paranoia and persecution complex, not deny it, that will drive them truly insane.

How on earth can a state slappy say these are exactly the same when this guy is already facing assault charges?

You really can't ignore stacking crimes one on top of another in succession.  Anyone arguing otherwise has absolutely no basic concept of the criminal justice system.

"Its a dangerous world" said his lawyer in a simple attempt at concealed carry rights and so forth.  Um, yeah, your client is assaulting people, drunk and carrying a gun.

The fact that the MSU player was in possession of a firearm while intoxicated was much different than Mazi.  And it doesn’t matter if the MSU player had a permit or didn’t have a permit.  That is a felony.  And the charges probably include a DUI.  The article didn’t state that but if he was operating the vehicle he would be charged with a DUI.

I surprised myself at how little I care about MSU players getting in trouble.  At this point, it comes across as "water is wet".

The "news" is that MSU voluntarily dismissed him from the team.

Valenti just pandering to his base.  My favorite is his inconsistency on Melllll and Juwan….

1) Tuck getting ridiculed by media because of RACISM!, and all hating on Mel for the $100mm contract because he’s black! , not the 7 losses.

2) Juwan is out of control, should he be fired for bad performance (1missed ncaa tourney) and being “unhinged”?

His whataboutisms are right out of the kgb playbook.

I hope this kid gets his life on track. He's from St. Louis which is one of the most dangerous cities in America. My educated guess is he has been around guns for a very long time, and having one (legally able to conceal or not) has probably been a way of life for a lot of his upbringing. He is an adult; a young one albeit, so there needs to be accountability and consequences for doing this especially since he was under the influence.

I still hate to see lives ruined so young. He was awarded an opportunity that he definitely worked very hard for to be able to receive a free education and maybe play football at the next level. Something that could have helped him, his family, and community. Now, you gotta fear that he will end up possibly back to the environment that originally fostered this.

I don't know where in the St. Louis area he grew up, but he graduated from a well-respected private Christian high school associated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, located in the suburbs. There's no basis to assume he has been around guns, legal or illegal,  his whole life.

You know, I remember being younger and being taught the guns versus butter example of a production possibility curve. This thread got me thinking that we just don’t talk enough about butter these days.
