Welcome to the season; new mod sticky.

WHY WAS MY THREAD DELETED? Read thishttp://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

WHY IS MY ACCOUNT LOCKED? Read thishttp://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

WHAT IS THE APPEAL PROCESS? Post here (start a new account if you were banned), or email David (all or our emails are our names at mgoblog.com). David will then ask "Why is this person emailing me?" and we'll be like "Just handle it" and he'll say "But how? I don't want to be the guy doing this" and I'll say "When it comes to dealing justice, trust the guy who doesn't want the job, that's what I always say," because I always say that.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: If you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Hall of Stickies Past: For those who love to get lost in the meta. The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth. The sixth. The seventh. The eighth. The ninth.

WHY DO YOU MODERATE...

  1. Anything? Freedom of speech doesn't imbue what you say with any quality, just like the freedom to invent a machine doesn't mean everyone has to buy it, or that every market has to let you display it. MGoBlog is a business, not a public institution; people come here for a high-quality ideas market about Michigan athletics. If you put out a bad apple, it gets tossed. If you do it constantly, you lose your stand.

  2. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?

  3. Unpopular ideas. Moderators are given the primary instruction: DO NOT CENSOR IDEAS. But some ideas are so tiresome and retread and badly argued that they’re not worth keeping around. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise. Pro tip: if you're getting frustrated in a conversation, back off for a sec, find the BEST part of the argument of the other guy, acknowledge that's a good point, and try to pick it apart.

  4. Content from other sites. Clickbait is annoying. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.

  5. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti is on there too. If someone's trolling Michigan fans, don't spread it.

  6. The ChatSports Rule. Given: a) The only person Yoder sources is Yoder, b) the only non-bot who follows Yoder is Yoder, and c) roughly 7.53 billion humans on Earth lucky enough to not be Yoder would be appalled if anyone thought they were Yoder, we can logically assume that anyone sharing a Yoder link must be Yoder, and we'll ban Yoder again.

  7. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We have tens of thousands of female Michigan fans; don't make it suck for them.

Do we have an officially blessed protocol for open threads? Noon, afternoon, evening only?

EDIT: and I guess drinking threads. And snowflake threads. Or maybe there's a better in-season board rules guide you can link to in a reply so people can see?

Cleaned it up (just 2 threads that went bad) and locked. Banned those who directly took it political (eg FirstAmendment).

"Celebrity daughter comes to Michigan" threads are fine and dandy--one of the marks of a prestigious university is we win recruiting battles in more things than sports. Sasha moving in yesterday was the talk of campus; I would have been surprised if there wasn't a thread.

Locked because we don't have the bandwidth to police it from a thousand political Pete Finebaums this week.

Remembering Lloyd Carr's similar Historic 1995-2000 B1G run

I don't know what this was in response to but don't post (even long) replies as a separate thread unless they have a lot of standalone value. This was mostly argumentative and I had no idea what he was even arguing:

If reading a mere post from a fan taking a jab at the enemies fanbase (however knowingly far-fetched) gets you angry, imagine being a player just in the arena reading posts taking jabs at you and your teammates after giving your all, that sounds like something worse than the rival fanbases could ever think up, because it's actually articulated far more intelligently, but it's from your own.

I also don't want to know. Extra mad that I got excited about the title. User set back to zero points so they can't start threads anymore.

EDIT: Also OT:  Story about an exchange with an OSU fan seriously dude don't start threads again ever.

OT: Shameless Plug for my wife's latest True Crime Podcast

Can't do that. But I'll give it a listen.

Me 3... are everyone's points frozen?  It took me a while to notice, my points aren't going up or down (maybe I should be glad)

Hey Seth.  Might be the wrong place for this, but are points frozen again?  My upvoting of people doesn't seem to give them the precious gift of MgoPoints.  Thanks.

If it helps anything for the gremlins behind the scenes, before points stopped working altogether, totals were showing up differently between individual posts in the same thread and the number at the top. It's like they were only counting the totals in the specific places they were found?

We have a cron that runs every few hours to check for missing points (from comments) and add them up. HUEL ran a query a few days ago see if any users with comments are without points, and it was working then.

We're looking into it. Not a top priority because all of our resources are committed to the giant Maizens-killing robot.

jjelliso calling the Army players "future war criminals" in the game thread. Hope that we're better than that. Pretty embarrassing.
