Michigan/MSU Game Time

Submitted by AFWolverine on September 13th, 2023 at 9:12 AM

Quick question for the board/mods. The schedule in the "useful stuff" says we play MSU at night. All other sources online including the MSU AD site still say "TBD." Yes, I searched the board as well. I will potentially have another event going on that day and I'm really hoping to not have to DVR the game if it's in the evening. Does anyone have insight on this or is the MGOSchedule just a leftover time from last year?

I had thought the 7:30 PM / NBC slot was a go for this game. I haven't heard of it being flexed to another slot or network as yet. That said, as convoluted as the TV agreement is now, we could very well end up on CBC Nova Scotia after a rerun of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" for all I know.

I think the team will play for Mel for a game or two but if they lose them then I feel as if the wheels will have fallen off by the time they get to us and players will have mailed it in and be looking for their next destination to head to. There are three games before Mel’s hearing and then one before they play us so it’ll most likely be a shit show by then.

As others here have alluded to, both in this thread and in seemingly every MSU thread this board has ever had, MSU's season is a one-game season. Every. Single. Year. They can get their teeth kicked in by Indiana 49-0 the week before, and as long as they beat Michigan, nothing else matters.

Regardless of what happens in weeks prior, the game this year will be intensified for several reasons:

1) The tunnel incident last year. I don't know how many MSU fans, alums, local media, all feel they were were the ones who were slighted, they were the ones who were disrespected, that they were the victims in that incident and that big bad Michigan is a mean aggressor looking for a fight. I imagine its a lot of them, and then you've got wastes of space like Mike Valenti who are passively-aggressively encouraging violence towards Michigan fans who try coming to the game. The kind of of language where he technically isn't encouraging the violence, but you know if he saw some random Michigan fan getting beaten by a gang of Sparties on his way in/out of the stadium, he'd stop and be proud that he had some kind of hand in making that happen.

2) If Dantonio is stepping in for this game and will be on the sideline, its akin to throwing gasoline on a fire. I don't know how much he'd be involved in the actual gameplan as this is not his staff and he's been away for nearly 3.5 years, but crawling into those player's heads for some pregame motivation, feeding them his "disrespekt, chip on our shoulder" mantra, not technically encouraging but absolutely not discouraging injuring Michigan players. That is where he thrives, even if this isn't his program anymore.

Honestly, if Dantonio is on the sideline that night, my concern for Michigan players getting injured goes up at least two or three-fold. And its already considerably higher than it was last year after the tunnel incident.

MSU will be up for this game. Doesn't matter what happens in any games prior. Whatever their A-game is, Michigan is getting it.

Psu/osu game is the same day.  One of these games has to be a Big noon game on fox right? They shouldn't be playing both games at the same time so we're looking at one of them being a 3:30 game or a night game I'd say.

I'm probably in the minority here but after all the bullshit that happens with this team seemingly year in year out, I'm in favor of just not playing them anymore.  We gain absolutely nothing out of it.  And if we do play them, the game should always be played at 9am EST or at least earlier than noon before people wake up and start drinking.  The last thing you want to do with that team and fanbase is play a night game.

Remember when 2016 Wisconsin was going to be a night game at the big house….until it became a 3:30 game without explanation?

Maybe do that here, please?  I don’t like the MSU game at night, even if it’s at home.

Oh it's going to be a night game...which doesn't seem like a great idea. I have a feeling it will be even more intensified than normal. Don't get me wrong, I have full confidence in UM to win...but they better bring their jockstraps. I absolutely could see either MSU falling apart like we've never seen or it's Dantoni trying to rise like a phoenix to literally play well for one single game and nothing else matters.

Californian here. So frustrated by the lack of start time transparency. It keeps me from attending games. By the time the networks announce the start times, I'm often priced out of flights. I'm trying to visit every B1G stadium (Rutgers will be last) and don't want to spend $600 or use 72,000 Sky Miles because the announcements aren't made until a week out. /vent
