That's a bit of a comedown from the hope of rotating series with Va Tech, UCLA, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington... makes you wonder if any of those games will actually happen. I would still prefer the non-con to be MAC, higher level group of 5, power 5 with the P5 being at home the years Michigan only gets 4 B1G home games. Until we show some chance of beating OSU, I'd rather play a more interesting regular season if we aren't positioning for the playoff.

2016 had the absolute best setup for a non-conference schedule:
Cupcake week 1 (Hawai’i)
Upper tier group of 5 (UCF)
Power-5 (Colorado)

I don’t if the Washington away is happening. Michigan has 8 home games in 2022 which they will need to sow up for losses this year.
I suspect UW next year might be cancelled as a result.

Swap Indiana too. I suspect the order of the conference games will get changed so Michigan doesn't start the conference season with 3 straight road games and end the season with 3 straight home games.

Assuming the MSU game flips, who buys those season tickets?? They won't flip the PSU game. So some third tier team.
December 18th, 2020 at 4:55 PM ^
Geez, that is the weakest non-conference schedule I've seen from Michigan in a long time. I don't like it.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:25 PM ^
Sure, but this is how OSU, Clemson and the entire SEC set up to make the playoffs.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:49 PM ^
I've got an idea! How about basing rankings on strength of schedule?! Has anyone ever thought of that?
December 18th, 2020 at 8:36 PM ^
Being in Big Ten East, we should be playing the easiest non-con schedule we can find.
December 18th, 2020 at 7:09 PM ^
Big time football right there. Maybe Harbaugh can get us to 7-5?!
December 19th, 2020 at 5:35 AM ^
What sweet information are we passing along by Sam or Balas today as inside info?
December 18th, 2020 at 4:06 PM ^
Who's going to be the favorite for that game?! (ducks)

We win on a missed UNLV field goal...
But seriously, while I wouldn't want this schedule every year, if we can get our house back in order, that's actually a schedule that gives us a good shot at 11 wins. Not only do we not have, say, ND in the non-conference, we don't have Wisconsin or Iowa in our crossover game. In all likelihood, one of Minnesota, Purdue, or Nebraska will be good that year, but this seems like the most humane set of crossovers games we've had in some time. Imagine not having to avoid a slip-up against ND and Wisconsin and Iowa (and PSU) prior to OSU... which is precisely the slate we had last year.

Our house back in order? Where you been for 20 years?

Can't wait. Remember 2015 and that long run by Ty Isaac.
December 18th, 2020 at 5:59 PM ^
That was the geographically oddest preseason schedule of all time. All teams from the west (Utah, Oregon State, UNLV, BYU).

We replaced UCLA for this?
Good job, Good effort.....

Thank you College Football Playoff. There is exactly zero incentive to play anyone in the Non-Conference. They have proven time and again that they select the Power 5 team with the fewest losses. They do not bother to look at schedule. No sense in risking a loss to a capable team.
December 18th, 2020 at 5:12 PM ^
Cool, boring football games in pursuit of a goal Michigan will never achieve. Fun...
December 18th, 2020 at 5:47 PM ^
And many now see even the Rose Bowl and the Orange Bowl as relatively unimportant when they aren't part of the playoff. Two great things about college football were that early games mattered and that a number of teams had a chance to leave the field as champions of a meaningful bowl at the end of a season. The playoff has damaged both for the sake of crowning a champion whose claim to being the best is still somewhat absurd. I am totally against it.

More power non-conference scheduling, I see.
December 18th, 2020 at 5:35 PM ^
I think I’m in the minority, but I am fine with scheduling all cupcakes all the time in the non-conference, so long as they are actually FBS schools. The B1G has enough quality that we do not need to bolster our resume with marquee non-conference wins. I’d be willing to bet that running the table and losing to OSU would get us into the playoff most years, provided the OSU loss isn’t a blowout.
December 18th, 2020 at 5:44 PM ^
Agreed. Win vs cupcakes and beat Wisconsin, MSU, Iowa, PSU and .... if I can dream ... OSU and the ranking will take care of themselves. Clemson and Bama have been doing it this way for a long time
December 18th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
As a season ticket holder, I hope to see at least one interesting non conference game.
December 18th, 2020 at 11:57 PM ^
The "softening" of the schedule the last few years was the main factor in giving up my season tickets. Not worth paying for the cupcake games (and the weaker conference games) just to get tickets for the 2-3 "good" opponents at home (for the years when we're actually good)

Stacey Augmon will cover Michigan's best receiver.
December 18th, 2020 at 9:22 PM ^
There was a period of time when he played for the Pistons and Mason said "Plastic Man" about 150 times a game.

It's a shame M won't get to face Vicious Vic by then...
December 18th, 2020 at 6:00 PM ^
Forgot all about him, was he still playing this season?

He's playing LB, curious what he could have done here.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:50 PM ^
IF I'm still a season ticket holder, I can't wait to pay $90.00 per ticket to see that game; plus the right (fee) to see the game live and in person.
December 18th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
I wish we were playing in Vegas for that game. Both an awesome weekend trip of football, and would allow any CA recruits to be within a drive of the game.
Michigan should be playing 1-2 schools from Texas/CA/FL every year. Ideally, at least one of those games would be there as well.
