We have 2 point guards and 3 additional wings jot including Chatman. Possible tea leaves on Caris? For Caris to leave off of a foot injury with limited time to even train for the draft is pretty hell bent and suggests that his mind has been made up. Hes projected way late in the 1st in nearly every mock draft and that is not safe grounds to make a jump but hey...our history is such.

Since he sits out a year, by the time he can actually play Caris will be gone for sure (either early entry or graduate) Spike will also be gone (graduation). Walton will be a senior and we won't have another scholarship PG on the roster (unless you count MAAR as a pg, which I don't think he is a true PG) So I think it is a great move. PG is one of the most important positions in the beilien offense.

Stfu, in GRIII situation going to the NBA was his best option. He was getting man handled on the block guarding 4s, coach b promised him if he can back after his freshman year that he would play the 3 which didn't happen. After his freshman year he was a projected late lottery pick he dropped almost a whole round by coming back

GRIII was NOT ready for the NBA after his Freshman year.  Those same "projections" were those he followed when he left too early after his Soph year.  If GRIII sticks around he would have done no worse then he faired and much more likely develops into a first round pick as opposed to riding pine in MN.

Remember how much he improved between April of 2012 and November of 2013?  He did that without a single minute of 'playing time'.

Waiting a year would have got him into the first round probably, but what would he really have gained?  One less year of getting paid. One year further away from free agency riches.  One more year of doing what he already did in AA for two years.

It would have been great for Michigan, but not great for Glenn.

You realize you are making a great argument that GRIII should have returned right?  If he could have elevated his game and became a first round pick that is ideal for everyone.

I mean, he isn't playing any minutes for an abysmal team.  He was a second round pick, which means he is making $500,000 this year and unless he shows some signs of life they are unlikely to pick up his 1 million dollar option for next year.  Look at Mitch as a later first round pick; he's guaranteed around 3M for the the next 2 years with team options in year 3 and 4 for up to another 4M.  Being a second round pick historically gaurantees you are less likely to get "free agency riches" and more likely to end up outside of the NBA.

You get more practice time in the NBA than in college.

We can debate all day about where better development would happen and there is no indisputable truth on the subject.

My point is that playing time isn't the end-all-be-all of development.

GR3 is who he is -- there is ZERO guarantee that he would have been selected in round 1 the following season after doing the same thing at Michigan that he already did for 2 years in a row.  He might not have been drafted at all, and be a half million dollars poorer for it.  Even if he quit basketball right now and went back to school he'd come out ahead.

I will just say I don't think that's an accurate depiction of what actually happened.  Your version makes it sound like some devious plot that Beilein set up which just is not the case.  I also don't think it's accurate to say he "dropped almost a whole round by coming back."  Plus your stfu is an overreaction.

not disagree more.  If he was gone before the year started, he would have actually gone before the year started.  He is a worse position now than he was, and he could possibly improve his position dramatically if he came back.

Two notes:

1) Sina went to Gill St. Bernard's, the school where the #1 Michigan target for 2016 5* Tyus Battle goes.

2) Michigan recruited Sina a while for the 2013 class, but somewhere along the line we cooled on him. IIRC, I think he was a backup plan in case Burke left.

Can someone refresh my memory on how many scholarships we have for his class??  Do we have a link somewhere providing this information on the BBall team?

Thanks in advance Guys n Gals!!!

really think we have that luxury at this point?  I am asking seriously, and with as much empathy as I have.  Can he remain on scholarship at the University without taking up an athletic scholarship?  He hs great survivor story and he has had a couple of really nice moments this year, but doesn't the competitive needs of the team start to win out at some point.  I am not saying dump the kid, but could other arrangements be made through the university whereby he could remain on academic scholoarship without taking up a roster spot?  Tar and feather me if you must.

He can be medicaled, which means he can't play but he gets to keep his scholarship. I'm just not sure that Beilein will do that at this point. Time will tell.

on scholarship to fullfill his dream to play for Michigan.  A medical scholarship is nice, but not what either Hatch or Beilein want.  We can be fine with only 12 on scholarship.  It would not be the first time.

Here's a little background on Sina's decision - LINK

Sina said it was "not a good situation" for him, and indeed, the quote from the Seton Hall beat writer mentioned in the piece regarding Seton Hall's struggles of late is interesting:

Internal strife has been a prime contributor to the downslide, as friction between the freshmen and upperclassmen grew over the past few weeks. After Saturday’s loss to Marquette, senior forward Brandon Mobley indicated some players were more concerned about their shot attempts than winning games.

Not very impressive honestly. He has solid court vision but looks limited athletically once again which is becoming too much of a theme. We can do better and need to. He is a lesser Spike in terms of his ability. He is slower than Spike with a alow release on his jum shot. I would like to see Beilein go out and get an elite PG like Winston and not settle here. ....

MichiganMan14

Cassius Winston Seth Towns Tyus Battle Josh Langford Seriously, anything less is going tO be a huge dissapointment. These are Michigan level kids and we shouldn't be settling for less.

Winston seems close to a lock, and I also think we're going to get Langford. Towns' recruitment has been such a roller coaster ride so far. At one point it seemed like he was a sure bet to end up in the class. Then he was offered... and now things are trending the wrong way. I'm assumng landing an Ohio State offer was a game changer in his recruitment? It's a shame, because that kid can really play.

Is this more of a depth thing?   Walton is a senior in 2016 and MAAR is a junior.  This guy would be a junior as well.   There has to be a PG signed in 2016 for sure.

We need a backup PG after Spike graduates. Sina would add another member to our current Freshman class which is already enormous...which makes me wonder how much it will shrink this offseason.

It wouldn't surprise me if Beilein let a few players know where they stand, which might scare them away (like Smotz, C. Christian, Brundridge, etc).
