Interview on 105.1

Closer to search than news makers and seemed to dismiss Cowherd claim

Was on conference call of former players led by Hackett

Decision will come in weeks, not days

Taking time to ensure a top candidate isn't missed

Says Miles is saying what he needs to say, seemed to imply that not too much should be read into report he told recruit he was staying

Says Butch respects university, doing things the right way

Ray is not the most knowledgeable person (let alone alum) in the world. He'll always be the awesome safety in 96/97 that had an awesome hit on a douchebag buckeye. I'll always be grateful for that but he is flat out embarrassing on BTN. When he speaks he doesn't stay on point AT ALL. Ask him about a particular game and he'll start stutter-yelling about his playing days on a way that is so incoherent that you'll beg for him to shut up for his own sake. He tosses unanswered questions back to the Revsin (sp) & the take in a way that leaves them unsure of what to say and clearly wanting to scream "WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?". I guarantee you Revsin hates him lol. He buys hookers after the show and forgets to bang them because he's venting about having to work with Ray. Sorry, got lost for a second. Anyway, yeah, he's uh...the last ex-player I'd want info from. Right after Marquise Slocum.

I was mulling this over at lunch actually - Jim Harbaugh seems like someone that would have dismissed it thoroughly by now if he was not interested, so the fact that no such statement has come yet tells me that he's at least listening and perhaps intrigued if nothing else. The longer that continues, the more it does seem like we might have a shot at actually getting him to Ann Arbor.

If that much money is willing to ride on the idea that Harbaugh will be the next coach, of course it is a legitimate possibility. I know it's not proof, but people who know things like to profit on things that they know, and this tends to show up in Vegas. It is, to me, proof that it certainly could happen.

Thats some smokescreen BS right there.  It doesn't take weeks to make the candidate list.  It takes weeks to talk to them, but they can't say that.

Remember Marcus coached under Butch at Central. So his ties are very close with Butch Jones. I am NOT a fan of Butch Jones. I think he would be a fine 3rd 4th or. 5th candidate. But, I certainly would not make him my number one or two choice

He wouldn't be my number 1 or 2, but living here in TN I've been very impressed with what he's done.

Tennessee was a dumpster fire when he arrived, having gone through Kiffin/Dooley for 4 years.  Dooley neglected to recruit any o-linemen his last two years so Tennessee was the only team in the country without a returning starter this year on the offensive and defensive line.

He's recruited great, and young players are making a huge impact.  A true freshmen Defensive End (Barnett) has 9 or 10 sacks this year.  The team showed improvement almost every week, and he is great in terms of interacting with fans and alumni.  Could do much worse.

I am interested in the bit about Hackett's conference call with former players. I wonder if it was to discuss criteria in coaching candidates, discuss possible candidates, or just a courtesy by Hackett to keep the players in the loop.

I am baffled as to why Butch Jones is even being mentioned.  Everything that he did at CMU and Cincy was handed to him on a silver platter by Brian Kelly and his record at Tennessee through two years shows little to no improvement.  That would be a terrible hire.

I live in the Knoxville area and these people are crazy fanatics. That being said, when Kiffin was hired, he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. When he left for his dream job, he was a piece of shit. When Dooley came in, they were all drooling over him as well. When Butch came in, they were all thinking he was the greatest. Notice a pattern? Long story short, the fans around here are incredibly rabid and very eager to jump on whatever bandwagon happens to roll into town. Mr. Jones has really improved that team and it should start showing soon, but he needs to stay in Knoxville .

or did he merely say that a new name will pop up over the course of the weekend?  That's what I thought I heard. Kind of like a play on words.  Like how he was dancing around the Harbaugh issue.

Cowheard essentially said that there is a current coach out there which no one is mentioning right now, but is possibly in serious consideration. He said we would find out who that person was this weekend. Some folks here (and possibly some other blogs too perhaps) for whatever reason took that as "we have a coach who will be announced this weekend".

He literally cannot be wrong. Any name that pops up over the weekend could be it. He definitely doesn't hang out on MICHIGAN message boards and certainly doesn't visit ANY message boards first-hand, so he would have no way of knowing if a coach's name "hasn't been on the message boards." I think we MGoBlog readers can attest that EVERY coach in America has "been on the message boards" if you count this one. Pinkel, Gruden, Malzhan, Captain Kangaroo, Peter Pan, everyone.

So he may have Stoops or Richt or Pinkel or Malzhan and SWEAR they've never been on the boards, but they have been.

He could also just make up some unsubstantiated shit about Jack De Rio (heyyyyy!!!!!) on Monday too, say that was him, ask "UM fans, you like him right??" and call it a day.

Maybe it's Jack Del Rio.

He has no insight and pretends to know more than he does and then goes on and on about a topic until his lack of knowledge drives the subject into the ground.

I have never listened to a dumber smartazz. When he replaced Tony Kornheiser years ago, I turned him off, finding him pretentious and hardly entertaining or informative. He doesn't even interview well.

The fact that he's playing his own game of Jeopardy about the Michigan job suprises me not in the least, because it's his way of trying to latch onto a story of national appeal without actually doing any investigative work or research to even offer reasonable facts. The guy is a blowhard.
