My only consolation is that they are in place of the whites (since we're visitors, technically) and not the home blues. Don't touch my home blues.

Way better than any of the garbage clowniforms trotted out by Dave Brandon.  And if we win 40-14 or somesuch, they'll look even better.

I've kind of always thought the arc of the Michigan football uniform universe was long but bent toward mixing and matching white, maize, and blue jersey/pants combos.  The maize jerseys are one indispensible step closer to that.  Still have no issue with it if it comes to pass.

I think some white details would improve the look of these, but I'm not too bent out of shape about them.

One thing I don't think people are considering is that Florida will be wearing all blue unis, so I think the solid maize against solid blue will look pretty neat.

I'm planning on watching the game with my family, and they aren't as plugged in to Michigan football, the history of Brandon and alt jerseys, etc. In other words, they are filthy casuals. It will be interesting to get their take on these.

One last thought: does anyone else ever think about how well (or poorly, in this case) jerseys blend in with surroundings? For example, does Florida's QB have it just a tiny bit easier surveying the field under pressure against a bunch of bright jerseys vs a darker blue?

Wow hopefully we can get 20 more Maize Uni threads with slightly different pictures to sell the need for a new thread.

WD probably could have just posted these in one of the other 3 threads. Then again you wouldn't get all the attention you crave.

The team went into the submarine this training camp and came out as the "yellow submarine."

I am for alternate jerseys once a year, but ones that are deisgned well and evoke Michigan. This all maize doesn't meet either. And to those that suggest other Michiagn teams have gone all maize, its apples and oranges. Just because a basketball uniform looks good in all maize, doesnt mean a football one will.

from the 1990s.

All that's missing from epic fail would be the 3D jersey numerals.

I would prefer Michigan just show up to the Florida game in home blue uniforms and maize britches and just assume that they are the Home Team.

You know, dark jerseys for both teams? We could have worn our great blue home jerseys with our blue and maize helmets and Florida could have worn their cool orange jerseys with their orange helmets.

I realize that would have sold less product, but it would have looked fantastic and indicated this was a "special" game -- two long-time powers looking like long time powers..instead of the Cal Bears vs Boise State.

Thank you, robpollard!

Nike’s press release says that the teams' alternate “deeply saturated uniforms . . . express the heritage and future of each program.”  Really?  What about that all-maize uniform expresses ANYTHING about the “heritage” or “future” of the University of Michigan’s football program.

If they’d wanted “heritage,” they could’ve had Heisman Trophy winners Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow serve as honorary captains, and let James Earl Jones announce the entrance of the Michigan Marching Band and SNL’s Darrell Hammond announce the entrance of the Florida Marching Band.

No sir, I don't like them

But I guess at least they appear to be maize, and not some crazy highlighter yellow. Or worse, white jerseys with highlighter yellow numbers so none of us have a clue who anyone is.

Look around. Every school wears alternates. Kids like variety. When OSU wore the all black uniforms two years ago, there was backlash from the fan base, which Urban Meyer acknowledged. He also indicated the all blacks were someting recruits wanted to see and it was something deemed important when selecting a school. What side won out? The recruits.

And yes, recruits should be the sole constiuency. They are the ones that win games. Uptight people such as you have zero impact on a game.

That's not what you said. Nice backpedal.

Recruits are important. But they're not the sole constituency here, and their interests should never be the primary, driving factor in any decision the program makes. If they don't like what Michigan is offering because there isn't a chrome helmet in the mix, that's fine--go play dress-up somewhere else. Michigan is bigger than bananaformz.

Not a backpedal at all. I thought it was pretty clear what I meant by "recruits win games", but I guess some people need it spelled out for them.

By the way, your way of thinking, the "THIS IS MICHIGAN" shtick, is why Michigan hasn't won anything of note in 13 years.
