Lloyd Carr's Grandson (Chad's Brother) Gets First Varsity Start at QB as a Freshman

Here's your feel-good story of the weekend. As the high school football playoffs restarted yesterday, Saline High School freshman quarterback C.J. Carr got his first varsity start because the Hornets were out several players. C.J. had played some this season on varsity, but this was his first start.

C.J. is Lloyd Carr's grandson and Chad Carr's brother. And his dad, Jason, is also a former Michigan quarterback, so he has some bloodlines. He's 6-3 and 175 pounds.

C.J. was thrown right into the fire. This was a regional final game, and Saline was playing Rockford, one of the state's traditional Division 1 powers. The kid's a freshman making his first varsity start. remember.

I can't find any final stats, but according to this story and some Tweets I saw, he settled down beautifully after a shaky start. In the second quarter, he rifled a 6-yard touchdown pass to give the Hornets a 14-13 lead. Alas, Rockford's depth took over in the second half and the Rams won, 40-17.

But what a thrill that had to be for the Carr family - a family that deserves all the smiles they can get. C.J. is already showing up on recruiting sites, so it looks like the future is pretty bright.

i found lloyd's account.

neat story, and i don't care what type of h.s. football game it is, a freshman playing is a big deal.  kid looks fully grown and ready to handle the action.  would be awesome if he went blue in 4 years.

Hmm, his grandfather was a college QB and a college football head coach, and his father was a college QB. I'm guessing "polished" will be one of his attributes as a recruit.

I watched the whole game and can say that he looked extremely good. He had one INT that was the result of a tipped ball, but he also threw a long (30+ yard) sideline pass that dropped in perfectly to his receiver. Probably the pass of the day by either QB. Always hard to tell from a single viewing via video, but probably safe to say he will be a D1 prospect. Only question is will what level: MAC? lower level B1G?, or higher?
