[Kind of OT] being villified as a fan base

We, as a fan base of a prominent Big Ten school, have been singled out (in an amusing way) by SBNation's Off Tackle Empire, which allegedly represents the entire conference:

Do our fellow conference members support one of their own when we strive to represent our conference at the pinnacle of the sport?  Uh, not on a bet.  They, instead, trot out all the Michigan Alumni tropes in an effort to diminish us.  They shall pay, all of them.

Ya'll gotta stop worrying about what other fan bases think of us. Would you support OSU if they were striving to represent the conference at the pinnacle of the sport?

Illinois used to and probably still does hate Michigan to a very bizarre extent.  I attended a game there in 1989 (Jeff George was QB, Bo's last season although we didn't know it, and the game was effectively for the conference championship), and the vitriol was quite shocking.  I think it stemmed from Bo running it up on them multiple times because they fired Moeller after 3 years.

did click.  a number of our fellow Mgolumineries have their Mgoposts copied-n-pasted right into the article:

say hello, san diego mick, gerald ford, and our own SRJK, along with a few others.

The writing style of that makes it completely unreadable. If you want to make fun of the Michigan fanbase - our arrogance, bowl record, past decade or two of struggles, and even some of the characteristics he pointed out - there is a funny way to do it. This was not it. Just painful, long winded and boring.

Those spineless turds are ready to trash Michigan anonymously and throw them under the bus every chance they get, but they’re going to be MORE THAN HAPPY to cash the checks they’ll be receiving from Michigan being in the CFP. They’re getting free money off of Michigan’s labor.

If they were really so righteous, they’d return the checks. It is, after all, supposedly just “blood money” to them, because Michigan violated the sanctity of the sport so gravely that they shouldn’t even be in the CFP or have gotten to rep the East in the BTCG game, right?

My thoughts on celebrating other conference members:

1.  I will support Iowa, Indiana and Minnesota.  They voted to send us to the 1974 Rose Bowl and I don't think we should forget their support for us.  Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and most notably Staee can fend for themselves.  I can't fault OSU for voting to send itself to the Rose Bowl but I have no love for them either.

2.  When Duke was playing Staee in the NCAA basketball tournament, a friend of mine said "You have to root for State - they are in the same conference as us."  I responded by saying "If alien space invaders came to earth to take out the Ayatollah would I have to root for the Ayatollah because he is from the same planet as I am?"

The only conference that cheers for itself is the SEC and that's because they are still big mad about the Civil War down there.  I think it's fucking gross to cheer for conference rivals, but that's just me.

Pac-12 (RIP) fans used to do that too.  I always considered it a sign of their lack of understanding of sports.  For the ESS-EEE-SEE, it's definitely a regional animosity thing, although I think "mad about the Civil War" is unfair.  It's more that they're mad at being the butt of jokes for the last hundred years.
