So Patterson has to wait months and months and this kid is granted eligibility I. Emmediatly because someone said something to him. WHAT A FUCKING JOKE

Uh or maybe it took Patterson longer because Ole Miss challenged his application whereas UGA did not challenge Field's application for immediate eligibility. Common sense would tell you a request that is challenged would take longer than a unchallenged request. Pretty simple.

Hilarious. He got called a bad word in a positive way, the offender was expelled and had his life ruined, his sister is going to UGA, but yeah he definitely fears for his safety there. Fucking spineless NCAA was scared of being called racist.

I think the reason it stinks so much is because every time OSU looks to be in a bad spot they come out smelling like roses. Did they sell their collective souls for football glory?

The kid did what he wanted to do with his career, just like leaving early for the NFL. Can't fault them for that even though fans want otherwise.

The problem is to win these "rivalry games"  players have to be recruited that are as fast as, and as talented as the competition. Coaches have to be able to win.

And it's not going to get any easier to beat Ohio State. 62-39 beat downs are not easy to swallow

Hate to say it but optics of this make it seem like Gene Smith and OSU seem to have a lot of juice with the NCAA.  Sure its the second time around but agree Shea was a much stronger case.  Can't seem to get the thought of Gene Smith smiling on TV right before we got sent to the Peach Bowl instead of the Fiesta out of my mind. That said, I like UMinSF's take much better than mine.   Just thankful at this point our basketball program and coach is much better.

So let's really look at the cases -

SP - the coaches lied to me.  Yes, it is true that my brother is one of the coaches but they still lied to me.  Yes, it is true it is odd that a lifelong UM fan who grew up in Toledo Ohio and was a highly recruited QB ended up at an obscure program like Ole Miss but I had no idea that any rule breaking was going on.

JF- a MLB prospect coming out of high school gets called a N by a baseball player at UGA.  JF feels he cannot play on the baseball team as this other players friends are still on the team.  The offending player is not kicked out of UGA.

Waiting for Brett McMurphy to investigate and turn up some bagman-to-NCAA connections.

Why pay to do an end run on the rules, when you can just pay for rules to not be enforced?

Exactly! Urban is an Assistant AD at OSU. Urban has a long history of paying players, paying police, and dishing out hush money. Urban has no morals and no class. I’ll never forgot last years game.  They had the game well in hand, but continued to score just to embarrass Jim and Don Brown. Urban is a horrible human

LOL it would have been more embarrassing for Ohio State to have completely let up on the gas pedal, and even then, the score was a helluva lot closer than the actual game.

I guess you never know until they take the field, but Fields is a night and day better prospect than Baldwin. He’s the highest rated recruit in OSU history. But Baldwin Is getting some hype and was Day’s handpicked guy, though he’s coming of a torn ACL. I’d say there’s a 90% chance at least that Fields starts

Frankly, neither Patterson nor Fields has a good enough reason to get a waiver IMO. There was zero chance Fields wasn’t getting a waiver after Patterson got one.  I said that from the start.

Not in today's world!

Think about it this way - during the month of African American History was the NCAA going to tell an African American player that he had to stay in the place where he had had someone verbally attack him with racist language?  NO CHANCE!  The media would have been all over them!  The SJW's would be marching outside of their offices!

Then every fan base in America who feels the NCAA had screwed them at some point would have seen the opportunity and jumped on the bandwagon.  PSU fans still want revenge for JoePa.  USC fans still want revenge for the Bush sanctions.  The list goes on and on.

I know this will get buried in a long thread but here goes:

He didn't go to UGA to play baseball because he would have played last year and he didn't, so stop this dumb argument.

The problem isn't that he's eligible, it's that he used an excuse to abuse the system. If he was the starter this wouldn't have happened. OSU fans are saying Shea also had a shaky excuse but here's the difference: Shea was the starter and is better than Jordan Ta'amu.

Fields is still a freshman.  He was a MLB prospect coming out of high school.

If you really thought the NCAA was going to rule against him then you REALLY do not pay attention to what is going on in the world.  The NCAA had no choice but to allow him to transfer and be eligible right away.

Think about if they did not clear him.  The media would destroy them.  The SJW's would march and protest.  They would be called all the vile names in the book.  The I am offended crowd would say the NCAA were being slave masters.  Not only are players not paid but now the NCAA is forcing an African American player into staying where he was disrespected and called an N, if he wants to play this year.  It would have been UGLY!

You can complain all you want but it was going to happen.  Even UGA told the NCAA they wanted it to happen.  UGA did not want to appear in the press as holding him back in any way either.

Heard on espnu that even though  he claimed that he felt threatened because of racial slurs from a Georgia baseball player , his sister who plays softball for Georgia feels comfortable there. seems strange to me.

I had told everyone if I was his attorney I would have had him apply for immediate eligibility and had him go out for baseball at OSU this spring.  He was an MLB prospect in high school.  The offending player was a baseball player at UGA and has friends on the team.  I would have commented to the NCAA that my client does not feel he can play with the players that are this guys friends.

Then have him show up for baseball practice at OSU a few days - throw a baseball around a bit.  If he decides he wants to play great, if he decides his class load is too large to play and has to quit that is great also.

The NCAA could not have stopped him from being eligible immediately.  UGA did not fight it.  The only thing that would have happened is the NCAA would have been crucified in the media and social media.

As to his sister - she is playing softball.  She is not on the baseball team with the offending players friends.

I wonder if there are grounds for lawsuits from other schools and/or specific athletes, especially ones that have recently been denied transfers. Sue them for, say, unfair advantages and arbitrary bylaw application so as to create competitive disadvantages. I don’t know...just throwing it out there.

JFC are you serious? Other schools sue the NCAA because big bad Ohio state got an immediate transfer?  I've enjoyed my brief time here guys after ghosting for years and just reading. Will always bleed Maize and blue until I die but we as a fanbase have become a collective of giant pussies who whine and claim ANYTHING that doesn't go our way as cheating or the boogie man errr bagman or paying off the ncaa, Shea used the same fucking attorney,  A LOT OF PEOPLE thought Shea had a really weak case and were shocked he was granted eligibility and now we act like that lawyer is somehow not a good one and instead needed bribes and it's the NCAA inherent bias against us as the only reason this kid was granted immediate eligibility. gtfoh

Also,  the guy has never played any meaningful snaps. Ridiculously talented and by all accounts seemed a stand-up guy on Beyond the Lights. That's why I'm so surprised he picked Ohio. Give me Shea in year two any day

I mean if we are being objective and Patterson had got a waiver to go to Ohio state last year and this year we got fields the opinions of both fan bases would be flipped. Both kids wanted to move to better opportunities and they used flimsy excuses. However, I’ll take Shea over fields next year all day long. Shea came to Michigan with a good amount of experience and had a whole year of experience this year. He has better receivers too. Fields may be great but he has no experience.

Lmao.  3/4 of you actually believe Patterson was a better case for a transfer claiming “lies”.... that’s rich.

You lauded the NCAA for granting his immediate transfer — underestimating the impact for players choosing your rival to do same.

Ole miss is amongst the dirtiest of the dirty so he had a stink all over him and is very fortunate and likely won on bullshit. This Osu kid had some racial incident and you have the audacity to cry foul ?

Hypocritical doesn’t begin to describe this. This is why other fans laugh heavily when you can’t win a single big ten title in 15 years and counting yet claim such superiority athletically, intellectually and morally.

State is dead  Osu cheats blah blah blah

If only you would live by the code by which you pretend

The difference is Shea is a good kid. He was actually lied to. Fields is a liar. His real reason for transferring was he wasn’t starting. Ole Miss under Shea was a better team than UGA, and Shea started. He did so with the utmost class. Fields has zero class. He went to OSU without ever visiting. That tells us all we need to know. HE GOT PAID!
