Josh Furman to Oklahoma State
You've got a helluva diploma and a chance to start.
Good luck to you.
Have to think that based upon his HS tape he might have been a good fit for the Over SAM LB position. Regardless, wish him the best.
There is a feeling I am having that by early October we'll be watching Furman highlights on espn and hearing about his draft stock.
he played the early-mid 90's DE,transfer to Clemson. Blows up there and goes on to a decent pro career.
Trevor Pryce
did the samething when he transfered to WV.
Wow, that is a much better landing spot than the normal transfers of late. Good luck to him.
I think Furman was more serviceable than this site thought he was. I'm sad he didn't get to prove everybody wrong as a Wolverine.
I'm sure the kid tried hard but he was constantly out of position, late to arrive to the ball, and a poor tackler.
Perhaps a scenery change will do him well. I wish him the best at OK State.
He always seemed to me like he had a ton of athletic ability, but always seemed out of position to make a play. It looked like he didn't know what was going on, or how to read the Offense. Well, thanks for your time as a Wolverine.
to train with criminals known as the League of Shadows. I can only hope young Josh isn't corrupted by his new counterparts.
You're killing me tonight, Batman.
he puts them away.
Tom Brady. Aren't you ever depressed that he won so many more Super Bowls in the NFL than he did at Michigan?
I am also quite sad that Tom didn't win any super bowls while at Michigan. But damn, did he try hard.
What happened with Tom Brady is that he landed in a league and with a coach that was ready for his skills. I'm not sure that Tom Brady would be a great QB if he lived in the 1960's and had to drop back from under center every time.
Will James/Peterson he was on the 97-98 teams I believe, finished at Western Illinois changed his name. Got drafted in the 3rd round by the Giants, bounced around the league a bit but played for almost ten years.
Good luck to Mr. Furman. Has a degree from a great university and has valuable playing time under his belt (he started vs osu for one). With the question marks out there as to who will start alongside Wilson, I think Furman probably would have been the opening game starter at strong safety. Not that I was confident with him on the field, but atleast he had experience and a hell of a lot of athletic ability.
Would have been nice to have him on Team 135 for at least special teams. Not really sure why he wasn't given a 5th year. He was a position switch and could have really seen some growth this upcoming season.
he'll probably blow up, be a 3rd-5th round pick, and have a long NFL career
"Knowing how things usually go for us..."
Who was a grad transfer from UM that turned into a mid-round pick?
Cox was a last round flyer who had crazy roster circumstances get him one start for the Giants. There was the rash of post-Carr transfers (e.g., Clemons, Boren, Mallet) who had varying degrees of college and pro success, but I'm not sure you can call them typical. Mundy, as someone above points out, I guess.
This sounds more like baseless self-pity than reality.
I kow I've said this elsewhere, but I don't really believe Furman was meant to be a safety. I thought that he would bulk up to 230 lbs. or so and become an outside linebacker. Maybe his metabolism just won't let him add weight, but he went from being a rush linebacker in high school to a safety in college. That's almost always a move in the wrong direction.
I always thought he would have been a killer RB. It just seems that he had incredible tools, but no one knew what to do with them.
Sounds suspiciously like Dymonte Thomas, moving from HS LB to college safety. Do you have similar concerns about him, longterm?
(And I don't mean this to be a panicky, post-Spring Game reaction. I think Thomas not seeing significant playing time thus far isn't a huge indicator of his potential, given his switch from his HS position.)
I do have some concerns about Thomas making that move, yes, but I think Dymonte Thomas is a better athlete. I would prefer to see him nickel corner for the short term because that would be more of a transition position, where he could still play near the line of scrimmage without having to cover a deep portion of the field.
playing safety in the Big 12 - get ready to backpedal
The thing with Furman is he's a great athlete, but lacks instincts. He just never seemed to be in the right place or have the instincts of where to go when a play was developing.
