I think Furman was more serviceable than this site thought he was. I'm sad he didn't get to prove everybody wrong as a Wolverine.

I'm sure the kid tried hard but he was constantly out of position, late to arrive to the ball, and a poor tackler.

Perhaps a scenery change will do him well.  I wish him the best at OK State.

He always seemed to me like he had a ton of athletic ability, but always seemed out of position to make a play.  It looked like he didn't know what was going on, or how to read the Offense.  Well, thanks for your time as a Wolverine.

I'm torn; one the one hand, I want to see him be successful. On the other, if he's an effective safety at Oklahoma State, I'd be depressed that someone left here and improved significantly again.

Which guys improved significantly after leaving Michigan? I don't think Mike Cox got better, he was just able to get on the field at UMass. Stevie Brown clearly got better in the NFL, maybe Ryan Mundy (not maybe, he did get better) but other than that? Serious question here, because I can't think of anyone but those two.

I mean yea, if Brady won a super bowl or two at Michigan that would have been quite an accomplishment. Seriously though, I don't think Brady got better. He was always a great QB. Just because Lloyd wanted to be stupid in Brady's senior year doesn't mean he wasn't a great player at Michigan. He was what, 20-5 as a starter? I think if say, Shane Morris has an .800 winning percentage as a starter over his last two years we'll all be pretty happy.

I was mainly referring to Mundy, but I think the same could be said of Cox. He couldn't get playing time here, and he went on to actually play in the NFL. I get that a bunch of dudes got injured before he played for the Giants, but he only saw garbage time here iirc; to start for the NY Giants when he couldn't start at Michigan shows a big improvement to me.

Good luck to Mr. Furman. Has a degree from a great university and has valuable playing time under his belt (he started vs osu for one). With the question marks out there as to who will start alongside Wilson, I think Furman probably would have been the opening game starter at strong safety. Not that I was confident with him on the field, but atleast he had experience and a hell of a lot of athletic ability.

Would have been nice to have him on Team 135 for at least special teams.  Not really sure why he wasn't given a 5th year.  He was a position switch and could have really seen some growth this upcoming season.

"Knowing how things usually go for us..."

Who was a grad transfer from UM that turned into a mid-round pick?

Cox was a last round flyer who had crazy roster circumstances get him one start for the Giants. There was the rash of post-Carr transfers (e.g., Clemons, Boren, Mallet) who had varying degrees of college and pro success, but I'm not sure you can call them typical. Mundy, as someone above points out, I guess.

This sounds more like baseless self-pity than reality.

the locker room fell apart and it wasn't a family I don't want to say to much but there were a few guys who really were odd ones, I will just say I'm surprised he made it this long. Good Luck but I hope he changes his ways and gets a degree.

I kow I've said this elsewhere, but I don't really believe Furman was meant to be a safety. I thought that he would bulk up to 230 lbs. or so and become an outside linebacker. Maybe his metabolism just won't let him add weight, but he went from being a rush linebacker in high school to a safety in college. That's almost always a move in the wrong direction.

Sounds suspiciously like Dymonte Thomas, moving from HS LB to college safety. Do you have similar concerns about him, longterm?

(And I don't mean this to be a panicky, post-Spring Game reaction. I think Thomas not seeing significant playing time thus far isn't a huge indicator of his potential, given his switch from his HS position.)

I do have some concerns about Thomas making that move, yes, but I think Dymonte Thomas is a better athlete. I would prefer to see him nickel corner for the short term because that would be more of a transition position, where he could still play near the line of scrimmage without having to cover a deep portion of the field.

The thing with Furman is he's a great athlete, but lacks instincts. He just never seemed to be in the right place or have the instincts of where to go when a play was developing.
