James Franklin fired his agent and is now repped by super agent Jimmy Sexton

Mentioned under the 3rd bullet point in this article.

There's also a very long thread about it on PSU's 247 site with the following post:

"In 2017 [Sexton] represented all but 3 SEC head coaches. In the '17 cycle there were 6 HC openings in the SEC and he filled 5 of them."

Franklin is clearly looking to get paid. Maybe he twists PSU's arm into a major raise, but this also seems like a clear precursor to Franklin seriously shopping himself around this offseason with the goal of jumping ship.

OP highlights agent Sexton’s ties to SEC programs.  Franklin coached at Vanderbilt and appears to want to return.  LSU is a high profile job; their last three head coaches won National Championships, I’m told.

This happened a little while ago... going from the #2 coaching agent to the #1 means only one thing in my opinion. He's milked all he can out of Penn State and is moving on. Sexton runs a tight ship, you won't be seeing as many leaks with him

Bigger paycheck at Penn St? Why?? His recent performance at Penn St wouldn't make me want to give home a raise. But it's their money.

I think he wants out of Penn St. I'd bet he wants a fresh start.

But the SEC is not the place to do that. The SEC is tough. More is expected of the coaches. But it's his life.

So now who would be his replacement at Penn St?

Really? I can imagine a half dozen scenarios where Fickell leaves Cincy if the right college job comes knocking. It's not like Cincy is an amazing blue-blood program with tremendous in-state recruiting advantages. They are a G5 team that is dwarfed by a perennial in-state playoff contender in OSU.

Jim Harbaugh is certainly not immune to criticism, but when the shit hit the fan last season he accepted a reduced financial package in order to stay at Michigan. I doubt Franklin hired Sexton in order to negotiate a smaller package to stay in Happy Valley.

Honestly at this point if I’m PSU and Franklin is using this all as leverage for “give me a raise or I’m looking at other jobs,” I’d just tell him “Fine, go ahead and start sending your resume. I don’t think you’re irreplaceable at this juncture, and I’m not going to keep paying more money to watch you lose to Illinois.”

I really shouldn't fault Franklin for looking to get a raise anytime he can, but one of the many things about him that rubs me the wrong way is how he looks to gouge his school for money any and every time his name pops up in coaching searches

I assume he's leaving - PSU seems to be falling a bit out of love with him and they're looking down the barrel of a 3-4 loss season, if not worse.  Recruiting has been solid but the same "UM can recruit regardless of the coach" mantra applies to PSU in this case.

After watching that PSU Illinois atrocity, I can’t imagine why his name is still in discussion for the big jobs. Certainly USC can do better. If I’m them, I would be trying to pick off Lincoln Riley. He cannot like the idea of Oklahoma in the SEC, realistically they are about to get bludgeoned into mediocrity. I’d bet they could get him to go to USC and go back to having the easiest route to the playoff…

I don't understand who the fudge would ever want him at coach unless it was a bottom tier power 5 team.  And half this boards obsession with Kiffin is equally disturbing.  They are both candy-ass, shit coaches.  Very similar.  Can recruit their asses off, cannot win games and are horrible game day coaches.
