The Michigan Injury Report is always handed out on Thursday evening right around the time of the Coaches Radio show on WTKA.

I don't know if MSU even does an injury report.

C. Johnson played 1st half last week - but is not 100%

Herron did not play last week but is expected to be back.

Unless there were/are practice injuries this week, I think the only issue for Saturday is at TB with Shaw and Carlos Minor Tousaint.

Could this be a medical redshirt for Fitz? He has been injured all season and only carried the ball twice. At what point does it become more beneficial to have for a full year? We will need a stable of backs this year and next, so why not give him the red shirt and go with Hopkins, Smith, and Shaw?

I realize Smith hasn't been a superstar, but he is certainly serviceable. Shaw has been pretty good and Hopkins has shown some talent. Yes, he fumbled, but such is life.

You can't get a medical reshirt if you appear in any game beyond the first three.  Fitz obvs played in the 4th game and so isnt eligible.  He also redshirted last year and injuries have to really serious to get a sixth year.

The rule of thumb is that you have 5 years to play 4.  You can't play more than 30% of the games (I believe they round up), so the fact that he played in the 4th game is not the problem.  The problem is that he redshirted last year.  Giving him a medical redshirt this year, would mean that the NCAA would be giving him a 6th year of eligibility.  They rarely do that.  The NCAA tends to only do that when a player misses two consecutive seasons due to injury.

A good candidate for granting a 6th year would be Iowa's Jewel Hampton after this year.  Examples of guys who got 6th years were Jason White from Oklahoma and Jordan Shipley from Texas.  Both missed consecutive seasons with injuries.

An example of a guy who redshirted his freshman year, and then did not get a medical redshirt after being injured in a subsequent year, is Jake Locker, who redshirted in 2006, but then was injured in the 4th game of 2008 and missed the rest of the year.

If you miss two seasons for medical reasons, you can apply to get a sixth year of eligibility.  (Nick Saban - of course - successfully exploited this loophole multiple times when he coached MSU.)  Toussaint missed last season because of a broken shoulder blade.  If he misses the rest of this season, he could qualify to have a medical redshirt retroactively applied to this season -  but that wouldn't happen until after his fifth season (2013).

But at any rate, it seems like he will return at some point.  Didn't they call him "day-to-day"?

Pretty sure MSU's starting NT Blake Treadwell is out with a shoulder injury. Also their starting (and most productive) DE Colin Neely is will be probable with hand injury.

This is just what I've heard.
