Um... How about Nick Sheridan? Penix has 477 passing yards as I type this.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
Bring 'em all!
Nick has solid coaching blood lines!

I have watched the entire OSU / Indiana game. Someone please tell me (Sal Q and others) how Michigan has more talent than Indiana?
November 21st, 2020 at 4:03 PM ^
Because the term "talent" only refers to high school rankings and doesn't take into consideration player development or seniority. Indiana has been running their same stuff for years with the same guys and that counts for a lot in college football and can make up the gap in high school recruiting rankings
November 21st, 2020 at 4:34 PM ^
Ding ding ding. Player Development is multi-faceted.
Bigger, Faster, Stronger is one aspect. This one usually gets guys drafted, see DPJ who tested out of this world at the NFL combine.
But the mental and system player aspect is what Michigan has been lacking for the past few years. But to develop talent here you need a coherent strategy and a well defined plan for each player and how they fit into that strategy.
Michigan has been lacking in the latter compared to teams like Wisconsin.
Take Ben Mason for example. He is a tremendous physical specimen, but in his time here he has been a FB, a DT, and now is listed as a TE in the roster, even though he plays more of an H-back role. No coherent strategy and no well defined plan for him.
November 21st, 2020 at 4:35 PM ^
Yeah, it seems weird that people ignore the fact that two of the top teams in the conference with "less" talent (NW and IU) had some of the oldest, most experienced teams returning. Michigan had the least returning production and that assumed Collins and Thomas were back. IU is a demonstrably better team than Michigan this year.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:06 PM ^
OSU was one of the least experienced teams in college football in 2016...they went 11-2. Why is our team so devoid of talent in Harbaugh's sixth year they could potentially go 1-7? And you seem to think everything is fine?
November 21st, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
Tyrone Wheatley and Chris Partridge.
Since 90% of the players who left from those "so awesome" rated '16 & '17 classes were brought in by them.
Plus I'm now convinced it wasn't Don Brown that Mattison turn coated from but none other than the man we sold recruiting to for the "composite No1" in '16.
But something tells me thinks are looking up:
Now if they could just recruit a whole new fanbase ;)
November 21st, 2020 at 5:50 PM ^
Sorry if I don't care to listen to a 17 year old recruit for advice. But I'm sure THIS QB recruit is THE ONE to turn us around! Just like Shea was supposed to. *Eye Roll*
November 21st, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Only an idiot would think a damaged Shea transferring from the cesspool in Oxford was gonna "turn it around".
The best any could hope for was his experience would make him a good leader allowing are WRs to make plays and a Dylan or Joe to "turn it around".
But Shea decided to golf and be afraid to throw the ball downfield or to keep on an RPO and waste the last year with experienced high quality WRs.
McCarthy was recruited by Gattis to run HIS offence and has a more mature outlook than most of you clowns, maybe you should listen to him.
November 21st, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
Just like Brandon Peters right? Just like Shane Morris for Hoke right? We can do this all day.
November 22nd, 2020 at 3:15 AM ^
Actually, I think Cade ended this glib reparte' :)
November 21st, 2020 at 6:22 PM ^
Halfway through year 6 and the best case scenario is 4-4? We arent beating OSU.
I love JJ's attitude but hopefully he committed to a program and not a coach.
November 21st, 2020 at 7:16 PM ^
I never said anything about coaches on staff, I'm not defending their performance.
I answered the question of why they have so much youth and inexperience and it was because a lot commits in those highly rated classes weren't good fits, especially for the change in offensive philosophy.
And 4-4 in the Glitch Year, sounds about right; especially if the molesters go winless :)

Returning production seems to be extremely important this year. When ESPN ranked teams by returning production in February they had Michigan at #125. Northeastern was #1 and Indiana was #11. Since that ranking, Michigan lost their top WR and their top CB to COVID. We also lost both starting defensive ends and both starting tackles to injury, which necessitated a line shuffle after two weeks. This is why I'm willing to be patient with the offense. Brown getting lit up by Michigan State when they just lobbed fly routes all game is unforgivable.
Check out the power 5 teams at the bottom of that list that have played a meaningful number of games. They are shockingly bad compared to what you would typically expect from those programs.
Michigan
Michigan State
LSU
Baylor
Syracuse

Running into a stacked box over and over or running out of the wildcat have nothing to do with experience. It's been the same thing since 2017.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:56 PM ^
Are you just going to pretend the second half of the 2019 season never happened?
November 21st, 2020 at 6:03 PM ^
But NW's returning talent was a bunch of scrubs...and they are going to end up winning the west.
November 21st, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
I would say that strengthens the argument that returning production is more important this year than in any other.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
I'm not sure if you're serious. Offensively, Indiana has a much more cohesive scheme than Michigan and they're not missing 3 starters. Defensively, Indiana knows what they're doing...and they're not missing 3 starters (I think they're missing 1).
They have a fair amount of talent, but the biggest thing is that they're confident in their system and playing fast.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:19 PM ^
Did you hear the part when the announcers said the coaching staff figured out at the end of last year that they didn’t have the athletes to run man so they made the switch to zone?
November 21st, 2020 at 5:33 PM ^
Under zero circumstances should Michigan be a bottom feeder of the conference even when missing 3 starters on either side of the ball.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
Yes, because of Bo Schemblechler and the team, the team, the team. After all, that was only 40-50 years ago. It doesn’t matter how many players leave, leave early or get injured. Michigan fans are entitled to wins.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:59 PM ^
But it’s year six under Harbaugh. Michigan should be reloading, not rebuilding
November 21st, 2020 at 6:37 PM ^
It's reasonable to expect a down year. It's not reasonable to be a bottom feeder.
November 21st, 2020 at 5:30 PM ^
Indiana has solid CBs, two NFL WRs, NFL TE and a NFL QB. Sometimes that's all they need to win games. Penix will play on Sunday as well as Fryfogle, Philyor and Hendershot. That's more than what Michigan can say on offense right now.
November 21st, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
Those all sound like students at Hogwarts
November 21st, 2020 at 5:37 PM ^
Could we take Penix too?
November 21st, 2020 at 3:48 PM ^
500 yards. An outstanding game form Penix
November 21st, 2020 at 3:55 PM ^
Ya, I’m sure they wanna climb aboard a sinking ship.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:22 PM ^
Why should he do a lateral move? They have a great thing going there.... Unless you're referring to as head coach.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:26 PM ^
Cash monnnnnnnnies
November 21st, 2020 at 4:55 PM ^
Straight cash homey
November 21st, 2020 at 5:02 PM ^
Lol did you seriously just say that going from Indiana to Michigan is a lateral move?
November 21st, 2020 at 6:35 PM ^
Michigan of the 70s and 80s or Michigan of the 2000s -2010s?! One of those is more lateral than one might initially think.
November 21st, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
Michigan has been a letdown the past few years, so yeah, it's lateral
November 21st, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
Tom Allen makes 4 million per year and he will probably get a raise soon. That's a VERY comfortable life. He does NOT have to beat OSU EVER. 9-3, 8-4 is fine at IU, not UM.
Why would he come to Michigan with empty shelves, high academic standards, unrealistic fan base, and yes, he HAS to beat OSU and, ahem, MSU? The money is not worth it. He has a good thing going at IU.
I would love it if Allen came and brought Hart et al. but I don't know why he would.
Much less stress is worth a lot of cash.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:24 PM ^
I am what you call a repeat offender. I repeat, I will offend again.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
Either Tom Allen and staff or Josh Heupel and staff.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:26 PM ^
Bring the whole staff. Seriously offer them whatever they want. I think the Michigan Man nonsense is a bunch of bullshit and I personally don't care about it. But the stick-up-their-ass Michigan letterman huffing about their Big Ten Championship teams during the Nixon Administration unfortunately aren't going anywhere. So maybe, just maybe they wouldn't run Tom Allen out of town for not being from the Michigan coaching twig. Could you ever imagine in a million years Michigan getting 3 INTs and 5 sacks against OSU? This Indiana team is light years ahead of Michigan right now and trending in the right direction. Penix and Fryfogle are legit All Big Ten guys. When was the last time a Michigan QB had 400+ yards and 4 TDs against OSU? Oh yeah that's right literally never. Meanwhile Harbaugh is telling us how he thinks this Michigan team is "close" and a week later they lose to Wisconsin--a team that had mass COVID casualties and barely practiced in 3 weeks--by 38 pts. I have seen enough to be convinced Tom Allen is worth a shot if Michigan can get his whole staff here. Are Fickell or Venebles really anything close to a sure thing? No.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
November 21st, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
That and the combined record of OSU’s opponents so far this season is 2-10. Maybe OSU’s secondary isn’t that good.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:36 PM ^
Could you ever imagine in a million years Michigan getting 3 INTs and 5 sacks against OSU?
In 2016, UM had a pick, 8 sacks, 13 TFLs, and held OSU to 3.9 YPA and only 4.1 YPC. So, yeah, I can imagine it.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
I meant going forward. How long are we going to still be talking about the 2016 team as if Harbaugh is going to rebuild that defense AND figure out the offense? Apparently forever.
November 21st, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
Yeah completely agree. Especially considering that team was almost entirely Hoke recruits.
November 21st, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
JT was short.
November 21st, 2020 at 6:09 PM ^
LMFAO. Our fanbase is so lame. Always living in the past. Should we be excited JH had 1 decent team in 6 years? Hooray! Feel better?
November 21st, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Let's see how they do after Penix and some of the other heavy horses are gone. If they just reload, I'll buy in.
November 21st, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
Penix is a redshirt sophomore. He'll still be at Indiana even if Michigan keeps Harbaugh for a lame duck 2021 campaign. I know it's an easy thing to overlook since Michigan fans are conditioned to believe you need a 3 year starter redshirt senior to have a top notch QB. But believe it or not, teams can actually win national championships with first year starter redshirt freshman QBs. There was also this guy Denard who Michigan had a long time ago who was pretty decent even as a first year starter true sophomore. Anyway, the point is that Michigan is going to have to hire a coach before they can carefully assess whether every viable candidate out there right now can sustain a winning program.
November 21st, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
I appreciate the passion and I agree with the main point, but Gardner had 450 and five total tds against OSU in 2013 on a broken foot
