I''ll repeat, bring Mike Hart home!

If that's only way to secure Tom Allen.

He'd make some hay with our current inventory assets on the offensive side of the ball.

Because the term "talent" only refers to high school rankings and doesn't take into consideration player development or seniority. Indiana has been running their same stuff for years with the same guys and that counts for a lot in college football and can make up the gap in high school recruiting rankings

Ding ding ding.  Player Development is multi-faceted.

Bigger, Faster, Stronger is one aspect.  This one usually gets guys drafted, see DPJ who tested out of this world at the NFL combine.

But the mental and system player aspect is what Michigan has been lacking for the past few years.  But to develop talent here you need a coherent strategy and a well defined plan for each player and how they fit into that strategy.

Michigan has been lacking in the latter compared to teams like Wisconsin.

Take Ben Mason for example.  He is a tremendous physical specimen, but in his time here he has been a FB, a DT, and now is listed as a TE in the roster, even though he plays more of an H-back role.  No coherent strategy and no well defined plan for him.

Yeah, it seems weird that people ignore the fact that two of the top teams in the conference with "less" talent (NW and IU) had some of the oldest, most experienced teams returning.  Michigan had the least returning production and that assumed Collins and Thomas were back.  IU is a demonstrably better team than Michigan this year.

Tyrone Wheatley and Chris Partridge.

Since 90% of the players who left from those "so awesome" rated '16  & '17 classes were brought in by them.

Plus I'm now convinced it wasn't Don Brown that Mattison turn coated from but none other than the man we sold recruiting to for the "composite No1" in '16.

But something tells me thinks are looking up:

Now if they could just recruit a whole new fanbase ;)

Only an idiot would think a damaged Shea transferring from the cesspool in Oxford was gonna "turn it around".

The best any could hope for was his experience would make him a good leader allowing are WRs to make plays and a Dylan or Joe to "turn it around".

But Shea decided to golf and be afraid to throw the ball downfield or to keep on an RPO and waste the last year with experienced high quality WRs.

McCarthy was recruited by Gattis to run HIS offence and has a more mature outlook than most of you clowns, maybe you should listen to him.

I never said anything about coaches on staff, I'm not defending their performance.

I answered the question of why they have so much youth and inexperience and it was because a lot commits in those highly rated classes weren't good fits, especially for the change in offensive philosophy.

And 4-4 in the Glitch Year, sounds about right; especially if the molesters go winless :)

Returning production seems to be extremely important this year. When ESPN ranked teams by returning production in February they had Michigan at #125. Northeastern was #1 and Indiana was #11. Since that ranking, Michigan lost their top WR and their top CB to COVID. We also lost both starting defensive ends and both starting tackles to injury, which necessitated a line shuffle after two weeks. This is why I'm willing to be patient with the offense. Brown getting lit up by Michigan State when they just lobbed fly routes all game is unforgivable.

Check out the power 5 teams at the bottom of that list that have played a meaningful number of games. They are shockingly bad compared to what you would typically expect from those programs.

Michigan

Michigan State

LSU

Baylor

I'm not sure if you're serious. Offensively, Indiana has a much more cohesive scheme than Michigan and they're not missing 3 starters. Defensively, Indiana knows what they're doing...and they're not missing 3 starters (I think they're missing 1).

They have a fair amount of talent, but the biggest thing is that they're confident in their system and playing fast.

Why should he do a lateral move?  They have a great thing going there.... Unless you're referring to as head coach.

Tom Allen makes 4 million per year and he will probably get a raise soon. That's a VERY comfortable life. He does NOT have to beat OSU EVER. 9-3, 8-4 is fine at IU, not UM.

Why would he come to Michigan with empty shelves, high academic standards, unrealistic fan base, and yes, he HAS to beat OSU and, ahem, MSU? The money is not worth it. He has a good thing going at IU.

I would love it if Allen came and brought Hart et al. but I don't know why he would.
Much less stress is worth a lot of cash.

Bring the whole staff. Seriously offer them whatever they want. I think the Michigan Man nonsense is a bunch of bullshit and I personally don't care about it. But the stick-up-their-ass Michigan letterman huffing about their Big Ten Championship teams during the Nixon Administration unfortunately aren't going anywhere. So maybe, just maybe they wouldn't run Tom Allen out of town for not being from the Michigan coaching twig. Could you ever imagine in a million years Michigan getting 3 INTs and 5 sacks against OSU? This Indiana team is light years ahead of Michigan right now and trending in the right direction. Penix and Fryfogle are legit All Big Ten guys. When was the last time a Michigan QB had 400+ yards and 4 TDs against OSU? Oh yeah that's right literally never. Meanwhile Harbaugh is telling us how he thinks this Michigan team is "close" and a week later they lose to Wisconsin--a team that had mass COVID casualties and barely practiced in 3 weeks--by 38 pts. I have seen enough to be convinced Tom Allen is worth a shot if Michigan can get his whole staff here. Are Fickell or Venebles really anything close to a sure thing? No.

Penix is a redshirt sophomore. He'll still be at Indiana even if Michigan keeps Harbaugh for a lame duck 2021 campaign. I know it's an easy thing to overlook since Michigan fans are conditioned to believe you need a 3 year starter redshirt senior to have a top notch QB. But believe it or not, teams can actually win national championships with first year starter redshirt freshman QBs. There was also this guy Denard who Michigan had a long time ago who was pretty decent even as a first year starter true sophomore. Anyway, the point is that Michigan is going to have to hire a coach before they can carefully assess whether every viable candidate out there right now can sustain a winning program.
