Evening Games (OPEN) Thread

Well, I figure we've got about an hour before things really get serious, so here we go.

Someone else can post tonight's schedule.

I only get to watch the first Q of ND/FSU since I'm going to a concert.  DVR'ing that game and ASU/Stanford to watch in the morning.  I'm pulling for FSU because they aren't ND,  Currently watching Tenn/Ole Miss just to see if Tenn can keep it close,

If there is maybe one more worse offense than ours' it's damn sure Florida's. Man they're hard to watch.

Tennessee is one of the youngest teams in the country aren't they?

Another reason why youth is not an excuse. I don't think they're going to beat Ole Miss, but they at least look competitive. Ole Miss would roll us from the get go.

I know there are fellow Above & Beyond fans who read this blog. Is anyone else streaming their 100th Group Therapy? The live video is on their web site.

Man NW just picked up beautifully, a Nebraska blitz, and Siemian threw a dart on target to a diving receiver. Goll-lee, seeing great plays everywhere but AA is frustrating (newsflash, I know).

I am going to give up on football for the day and watch Evil Dead 2 with my son- then some zombie movies to get into the Halloween flow. Next week I fear and even greater horror. Have a good night all.

Woah Oregon is wearing TRADITIONAL uniforms for once from like the 00s and 90s jeeze...

Btw why is Washington not ranked? Especially with Peterson as their coach and Shaq Thompson on that defense.

Yes.  Hindsight being 20-20 and all, I still remember being more than a bit disappointed when it became apparent Michigan wasn't at all interested in Kelly, as I felt he had the advantages of knowing the Midwest and had won at every level.

I can't remember on what the feeling surrounding him was at the time.  Certainly a hot name, climbing up the ranks quickly, good first season at Cincy.  I think RR was just the sexier name at the time, though Kelly would have been a safer hire from the perspective of 1) looking more like the type of guy some of the fan base would have liked to see and 2) not requiring a complete offensive overhaul.

Mallett is gone either way though and so we're basically back to Threet/Sheridan.  Threet was actually a top 10 QB in class so maybe it's not as bad, but still not a great first year.

Point being, we can't un-ring that bell.  What if we waited a year to fire RichRod and we got Urban Meyer in his off year instead of OSU? Who knows.

I'm going to ask a question that might get some backlash, but oh well.

Why is is that in the early 90s Notre Dame could beat teams like Miami and Florida State, but we couldn't? Florida State came into the Big House in 1991 and tore us a new asshole. Notre Dame beat them in the Game of the Century in 1993.

Speed at that time was not really about how fast you ran plays but was about team speed. It was not a system but a philosophy on the type of players you wanted on your team. Essentially teams started recruiting guys with 40 time as the major criteria. If I remember correctly the FSU game was a big wake up call for the Michigan coaches. After that we put a lot more emphasis on looking for recruits who were fast. I think ND May have been using that approach before us. I know FSU and Miami were.

Cuz we're Michigan and have a history of losing big games since Schembechler, which has only continued into Carr's days as coach...

Tbh... if Moe didn't get drunk that night... who knows where we could be now...

I think it goes with the whole philosophy meh. Oh well, hopefully we can change for the better with this hire.

I was at the FSU game and we looked like we were playing a bunch of NFL guys.  Track stars.  Team speed was not there.  Even in 97 we didnt play a team from the south (well Baylor, but that was mid 90s Baylor).  I dont think the 97 Nebraska team did either but I think that 95 Nebraska team may have been the best college football team in the past 25 years and they destroyed Florida.  I assume there were a lot of Texas and Oklahoma kids on that Nebraska team but who knows.

As the years go by the demographics work against Midwest teams IMO.  I am hoping the next coach devotes 7-9 players a class to the south/VA area.

A crafty exchange of punts in the FSU-ND game, but it is OK because the two dudes covered in glitter are single-handed providing illumination to their entire section. Someone is definitely getting some sort of poisoning in the student section tonight down in Tallahassee.

in the pre-season. Once the ND series ended this year we will be playing middle of the pack Big 12 teams. But that may be good for a while since we are not even close to being a good enough team to play with the big boys!

Very interested in that 10:30 game.  Stanfords offense has really fallen off but their defense remains excellent; going up against a fun and gun offense whose backup Qb has thrown for somethin silly like 1100 yards in 2 weeks.
