Boise St. vs Fighting Rich Rods Fiesta Bowl Thread

Submitted by OccaM on

Well, nice to see Boise St. still remembers how to do the Statue of Liberty play that validated their program among the "big boys."

RR's defense on the major struggle bus atm.

I just said to my girlfriend that Michigan fans can finally watch an Arizona game without breaking into an argument. Serious question: were the last seven years worth it if it's the only way we hire away Jim Harbaugh after a successful stint in the NFL?

RR's WVU was #2 in the nation and had a lock on the CG when they crapped the bed vs. Pitt on the last game of the season- he has been melting down at the end of the season ever since.

remember our record with him after the first 6 games- and then the last 6?

21-7 now ... Arizona showed some life.  That offense is capable of scoring a bunch pretty quickly.  So it's really now how Boise State responds.  If this becomes a shoot-out, then starting out 21 points up bodes well for BSU.

All the Rich Rod love around these parts completely glosses over the fact that when he faced a good defense, he usually folded quickly. I'm hoping to see some classic RR funny facial expressions. They really amuse me at this point. Did I mention we have HARBAUGH??!?!?

We really need to move on past RR. Was he screwed when he got here? Yes. Completely ostracized by large factions of the fanbase and the athletic department both. Was he given the resources he should have been? Not even close. He should have been given the money he needed to bring the people he wanted.

Was his offense a complete disaster against any team with a pulse? Yes. He probably should have gotten a fourth year, but his mismanagement of the defense made it obvious he probably wasn't going to get any better under the constraints he was under.

Hoke, on the other hand, had none of the obstacles RR had and had all the benefits RR was not given. And he was given 4 years buy only got worse. I think in the end good decisions were made to move on from both of them under their circumstances. I think RR should have gotten more to pay for his asst's... but it's time to move on.

Rich Rod is showing his true colors. He's a mediocre coach who excels against bad competition. Pretty glad we came to our senses and got a real coach who will win championships.

Rich Rod to Michigan was a perfect example of the Peter Principle.

Don't forget Nick Fairley ... he was a beast in that game.

I maintain THE best defense against the spread is really good penetration by the DL.  If a play can be disrupted before it can develop, the spread is neutralized.

Oregon would've played Nat Title that year if Dixon stayed healthly and Leaf wasnt his back up. Fuck Rich Rod the guy chokes big time. So they beat Oregon twoce what was his Big Ten record? And that same team that was stomoed by Oregon after losing to App State reeled off 8 wins and had a chance for Big Ten title before Henne and Hart were hurt before Wisconsin. They also went to Florida to play the Gators and their heisman winning QB who also ran the spread and beat them. All of America Gane michigan no chance against the gators. How dod that Lloyd Carr team handle such adversity? How did a Rich Rod coached tram handle adversity? Oh shit they folded quicker than an origami national champion. Thank christ Rich is the fuck out and Harbaugh is in. Oh and the "support" Rich dodnt get? Maybe he shouldn't have pubically blamed Lloyd Carr for his own short comings and then cry "I never got support". Lloyd shouldnt have supported Rich Fraud after Rich pubically slammed him.

I think Rich Rod is a little better than "mediocre." Admittedly, his tenure at Michigan was sub-par. However, he is very good at producing efficient offenses, and right now, his Arizona team is ranked top 10. I would at the bare minimum give credit to Rich Rod for being a good coach. Not saying he is elite or even great, but he is a good coach. The man deserves a little credit, as he has some impressive accomplishments, as mentioned by other people.

So, Boise State in the first quarter:

 - 242 yards of offense, 146 passing and 96 rushing

 - 7-7 passing, so 20.86 yards per pass

 - 12 carries on the ground, or 8 yards per carry.

To the Wildcats defense, I think that's a big "woof".
