certainly looks familiar.
As does the offense that does a disappearing act in big games.

Yes. No doubt at all. I wanted Les in 2007 but then we'd have Old Les now and no room at the inn for Jim.
December 31st, 2014 at 5:10 PM ^
You can't even project these things. For all we know, we hire Les Miles. Wreck the nation and run college football long enough for him to retire and Jim or John Harbaugh to be tired of the NFL after winning multiple Superbowls and come back to coach Michigan after Miles retiring..

I haven't seen Les exactly 'wreck the nation'' or anything close at LSU. Just saying.

RR's WVU was #2 in the nation and had a lock on the CG when they crapped the bed vs. Pitt on the last game of the season- he has been melting down at the end of the season ever since.
remember our record with him after the first 6 games- and then the last 6?

I have felt that was about the defense under Hoke at times as well. Though never to the same degree.

21-7 now ... Arizona showed some life. That offense is capable of scoring a bunch pretty quickly. So it's really now how Boise State responds. If this becomes a shoot-out, then starting out 21 points up bodes well for BSU.

We really need to move on past RR. Was he screwed when he got here? Yes. Completely ostracized by large factions of the fanbase and the athletic department both. Was he given the resources he should have been? Not even close. He should have been given the money he needed to bring the people he wanted.
Was his offense a complete disaster against any team with a pulse? Yes. He probably should have gotten a fourth year, but his mismanagement of the defense made it obvious he probably wasn't going to get any better under the constraints he was under.
Hoke, on the other hand, had none of the obstacles RR had and had all the benefits RR was not given. And he was given 4 years buy only got worse. I think in the end good decisions were made to move on from both of them under their circumstances. I think RR should have gotten more to pay for his asst's... but it's time to move on.

Rich Rod is showing his true colors. He's a mediocre coach who excels against bad competition. Pretty glad we came to our senses and got a real coach who will win championships.
Rich Rod to Michigan was a perfect example of the Peter Principle.

I don't really think of Oregon as an elite program either. They've never been close to winning a championship. The only reason he can beat Oregon is because he knows their system better than they do.

Don't forget Nick Fairley ... he was a beast in that game.
I maintain THE best defense against the spread is really good penetration by the DL. If a play can be disrupted before it can develop, the spread is neutralized.

Were you in a coma the year they played Auburn in the title game?
December 31st, 2014 at 5:27 PM ^
I think he's a legitimately good offensive coach. His O has a few clunkers per year but on the whole it's pretty good. But I feel like he's more of a glorified offensive coordinator than a head coach.

Things were so much better when we could beat real teams like Oregon, before RR ruined everything:

I think Rich Rod is a little better than "mediocre." Admittedly, his tenure at Michigan was sub-par. However, he is very good at producing efficient offenses, and right now, his Arizona team is ranked top 10. I would at the bare minimum give credit to Rich Rod for being a good coach. Not saying he is elite or even great, but he is a good coach. The man deserves a little credit, as he has some impressive accomplishments, as mentioned by other people.

So, Boise State in the first quarter:
- 242 yards of offense, 146 passing and 96 rushing
- 7-7 passing, so 20.86 yards per pass
- 12 carries on the ground, or 8 yards per carry.
To the Wildcats defense, I think that's a big "woof".
