Ahmir Mitchell Sr Yr Highlights

Submitted by alum96 on

Saw this on Mr Fish's twitter feed. Cue the "he looks like this NFL wr combined with that NFL wr...but better" commentary. I like how he opens the film with a defensive play. Was a bit surprised he is at 4.67 in the 40 - thought he was a bit faster.  But at least that gets 0 out of 5 fakes as its Sparq verified.  6'3" 206 lbs - should be one big kid by his SO year.

On a sidenote - Ahmir just tweeted he expects 3 committments to UM this week.

And I don't think it's a desperation move. He seems very disciplined and aware of his assignments for a HS player, and looked like a sure tackler. I liked him on defense better than offense. I'd think Safety or LB would be a good fit depending on how he puts on muscle/weight.

Legit playmaker. Really not sure what position he ends up at. Could see him making an impact in the return game after year one, when JLew and Jehu are gone.

Texas and Ohio Jersey football is not. A lot of top tier talent then a steep drop off. Outside of the final rounds of playoffs he may have faced a lot of goobers. That being said he is the best player on a team that won the state title, so I'm not worried about him being a dud fluffed up by bad competition (a la a certain RB we had high hopes for)

I grew up close to there.  Cedar Creek is a brand new HS with very little enrollment but a really good football coach (former NFL d-lineman) so they get to play against pretty bad competition for most of the season.  There is a lot of good D-1 football talent that comes out of the area though becuase the coaching and camp participation is pretty good but not 11 players on the field are good.

Would they take Chase Allen so soon without giving Nauta more time to "mull"?

I see Eason "re-commited" (while never decommiting) to GA today - many thought he was headed to Miami after the coaching change so it puts another nail in the Nauta coffin.

I don't know if Allen has ever been to AA but UM is far and away his best offer.   Unless Nordin flips I don't see anyone else who is on commit watch so soon.

I meant the poster you responded to.

The previous poster asked if anyone else's commitment date was this week, and the poster above you responded that Pie Young's was. I don't think he was predicting Pie Young's commitment necessarily.

Ahmir Mitchell might have been, but (I agree with you) it sounds unlikely.

Sorry for the confusion.

An electronic times 4.67 40 is pretty fast. Everyone has been accustomed to all the fake 40s that no one knows what fast is. At his size, if Ahmir was a 4.57 he'd be a sure-fire 5-star.

This kid is kind of a freak athlete. Not Lebron freak but like Larry FItzgeral type maybe. Strong, thick and tall. Has gallup but needs that giddyup. Overall descent athele. Watch out if he has some good gains in top end speed and lateral quickness.

The great thing about these highlights are realizing he will not be needed desperately next season. Chesson, Darboh, Drake Harris, Ways, Grant Perry, and Nate Johnson should be able to handle the heavy lifting. That will give him time to develop his route running which is often overlooked when freshmen show up to campus.

That would be ideal, in my opinion, if he doesn't need to be pressed into service - the luxury of not having to do this to players in various position groups is something I am still trying to adjust to in the Harbaugh era honestly. The film posted above is very nice indeed, and if Mitchell had a year where he could just learn the system, I think he fills in quite nicely.

One position which will be interesting is Fullback. I foresee more heavy TE sets and 3-4 WR sets next season since we do not have an established FB returning. Poggi isn't much of a FB. I think it will have to be mostly Shallman (who has not been able to stay healthy.)

In an ideal world, we land Kareem Walker, and Smith can play FB. De'veon is an ideal FB. Tough. Pretty good blocker. Can run the Harbaugh Trap. Can Catch out of the back field. That would be a perfect scenario.

I have been saying this for a while, as well.  If you were to describe an ideal FB for the Harbaugh offense, it would be a big back, good blocker, picks up blitzes well, can catch out of the backifield and is a threat to take several handoffs a game.

That describes Smith perfectly.  He obviously has the size and blocking ability, and his blitz pick-up was very good this season.  As for his running / catching, the guy functioned as our primary RB for much of the season, and would be at least as good as Houma in that regard (which was pretty damn good).  Pair him with a quicker, shiftier back (or a second bruiser) and we might have an actual running game.

I've long been of the opinion that Mitchell is every bit of the prospect that Corley is.  They're not similar players in terms of style or attributes, but they're equally good prospects for very different reasons.

...which is one of the reasons I also want Corley at Michigan so badly.

what he would be like at safety... Jarrod Wilsonesque...similar speed, similar height, would end up being 20 pounds heavier, and hits harder. Almost a mini cam chancellor?
